- The month-long plein air painting challenge #pleinapril starts tomorrow so I invited Sarah Burns back on the show to discuss tips on getting outside to paint! She is a renowned landscape painter living in Scotland with a thriving RUclips channel and website focusing on plein-air painting, and I am thrilled to have he back on the podcast!

Thanks again for having me back and for a fun chat :) One more day to go...
Can't wait!
LOVE YOUR PODCAST and LOVE SARAH!! Great interview, thank you ladies! ❣️
I can imagine strolling along a Scottish beach, when suddenly, with a gust of wind, a watercolor palette swooshes down from the sky and lands at my feet. What? A Gift from the art gods? No! Sarah Burns must be painting on a nearby cliff! Haha 😂. Im just glad that YOU haven’t fallen, Sarah! Great conversation, talking shop (portable heat gun?!?!) with Lindsay and Sarah! Really enjoyed it a lot. Thank you for sharing it. ❤ Respect to you both.
Thank you!
What fun catching my two favorite watercolor artists chatting and sharing ideas!
Lindsay and Sarah together again! YAY! Thanks for a great chat!
Our pleasure!
OMG, i love these chats. I put you guys on while I putz around the kitchen, and it's so nice to not feel alone, while I learn more about you and these artitsts we see online but don't know. I like Sarah's style, she is easy to follow too. Thank you Lindsay, keep these coming.
Thank you!
That was WONDERFUL. I love this long format where you can let the conversation go where it will along a few prompts; there are so many gems along the way! Thanks for having Sarah back. She's one of my favorite RUclips artists and she inspired my to try gouache, and after struggling with watercolor it was like coming home! Then that led me to take your 30-day class with gouache! Full circle! Love these art chats, hope you'll have Sarah back again!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can I just say - I loved this chat! I love both your channels! The absolutely most inspiring moment was when Sarah showed her first Plein Air sketchbook -
Loved it - Sarah - your art is
BEAUTIFUL but I absolutely loved where you started. It makes me want to go on. My plein air is messy! From your inspiration, I might even try a Plein April! Thank you both of you! Wonderful!
Thank you so much!
Great chat! Thanks so much to both of you for this long form exploration!
Our pleasure!
Hi, Lindsay and Sarah. Thank you for your video. Have a good week.❤
Thank you! You too!
Another very informative art-vid/podcast! Thank you both and ‘Happy Easter!’ 🎉💜✨🌸🐣🐇
Same to you!
I'm really enjoying all of your podcasts and chats. Hearing various views are helpful.
I know just having your stencil set had made me practice more. I keep a little kit I made up for taking to my clinic or if I end up waiting for appointments etc.
Painting outside(to get outside more) was a major goal for my knee replacement. Lake county Illinois has many Forrest preservatives. I love the idea of focusing on 1 thing and build up.
Thanks for great inspiration ladies.
I am glad it's helpful!
Lindsay, they do sell the 500 series thick mixed media toned paper in sketchbooks, btw. Amazon has them in gray and tan. Fewer pages than the thinner toned paper ones from the 400 series, but a nice sketchbook.
Oh thanks! I'll look for it!
I'm going to look for it too. I have a hard time to find heavy mixed media sketch books.
Lindsay and Sarah, thank you so much for this Podcast. You both inspire me. I love hearing you talk shop. I hope you both had a good Easter and/or a nice Sunday. Do have a good month of April.
Thank you so much!
So nice to hear from Sarah again and she shared such great info about starting plain air painting. You did a great interview Lindsay and you both shared great tips and info about equipment. Thanks so very much!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Instead of getting in those 10, 000 steps in a day you could strive for 10,000 rush stokes 😂🖌️ Always loves these art chats.
I'm so intimidated by painting outside, but hearing you guys talk about it makes me want to do it anyway.
Give it a try!
Loved it. Just bought both her books. Am so enjoying the podcasts Lindsay!
Yay! Thank you!
I was delighted when this popped up in my feed tonight - I love "hanging out" with both of you, and thank you for some great ideas!
So glad!
This was such a nice chill chat! Love you both!
Sarah is always fun to watch! Thanks for hosting, Lindsay!!
You are so welcome!
Hullo Lindsay, I am enjoying watching this new conversation with Sarah! I am just as excited about this podcast as I was about the first one! I liked the foray into soft pastels and I was going to get a Heilman box, but it/they are quite expensive. So I made my own! I was able to buy the hardware and wood for under $100.00 and it works great! I have not truly attempted plein-air in years. I have more than a few challenges to painting and I have a lot to cart with me so I work in my studio and when I do work outside, it is my back yard or a local park just 10 minutes away. And parking the car close is key for me. I am looking forward to seeing your sessions with your plein air challenge!
Thanks! I just finshed day 3! I'll post it in Instagram later!
Love this chat from 2 of my favorite artists.
Thanks 😊
Fun conversation! ‘Art Bit’ great idea! 😂
Right?!
My two favorite artists on you tube! ❤️❤️
Love, love, love this video. I hit the like fairly early, then I was enjoying it so much I went to like it again and realised I’d unliked it…. Liked it again!,, well done Lindsay loving this series
Yay! Thank you!
Thank you Lindsay for doing this - Some favourites of mine are not excluded in my heart, but you are both two of my favourite artists that I keep in my sphere. What a wonderful conversation... love these...
Take care!
Our pleasure!
Yeah the weather here isn’t great for plein air painting at the moment. It’s mostly raining sideways… I hope it’ll improve as the month goes on.
Great convo, thank you both!
I hope so!
I love your conversation, I follow you both, and for me, its very pleasant to hear you, it's a great idea to chat together, and talking about arts supplies and more! ❤❤❤
Wonderful!
I’ve used strathmore toned tan to test gouache . If there’s not too much water it can become a nice little color sketch
I really enjoyed the podcast with Sarah!! Lots of great information ! Thanks so much Lindsay and Sarah 🙂
Our pleasure!
2 of my favorites ❤🎉🎉🎉
Such a good episode ☺☺
Thank you!
I’m enjoying this series! If you’re taking suggestions for guests, it might be interesting to hear from Jesse Lane sometime 😊
Love Sarah!! Thanks to both of you!! Saving for the book!
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you both!
Our pleasure!
Great chat! Having followed both of you, really like to see you both in this format!
Awesome, thank you!
I'm a big fan of both your channels, so finding this video to enjoy with my morning cuppa ☕ was blissful. Just FYI, Strathmore does make a soft cover toned tan art journal with 48 pages of 300 GSM paper. It's kind of difficult to find, but I did manage to find it on both Amazon's and Walmart's websites. It's product #481-307. I believe one is available with toned gray paper as well.
Good to know!
thank you to both of you ,Happy Easter ,i am setting up my art table with beeswax to give Pysanki a try again i did it when my son was young, very cool art form.i love your channel
Wonderful!
Great discussion
Thanks!
I forgot! I want to do a plain air april challenge! I will love to do that. I live in Puerto Rico, and here are very different greens trees, and beautiful beaches 😊 but, the tropical weather here it's a little complicated, all most the time are hot and humid. So, the air and the hot weather, dried quickly gouche 🤔
You can try the watercolor blending medium which is propylene glycol
@@thefrugalcrafter oh, ok! Thanks for your advice Lindsay 🥰❤🥰❤
Good to hear this conversation! Can you tell me more about the warrior plein air site or app you were discussing for ideas? Thanks!
Just search warrior painters or plain air April and it will come up:)
The General pastel pencils at Walmart today are 18.33 for 12 pencils. Not carried In my local store, can be shipped to me.
Good to know!
I love working on tan or Kraft paper. I would love to find a tan watercolor paper!
Hahnemülhe used to make one in a square and rectangle format.
@@thefrugalcrafterOh! I’ll have to look into that! Thanks!
Lindsay, Do you think the small heat device would be good on our France trip?
I don't know if you can fly with butane. I don't know. I probably wouldn't bring one, it should be in the 70s so paper should dry well.
@@thefrugalcrafterYou are totally correct! Thanks!
@Lindsay- Sorry. I didn't understand where you get those small inspirational pictures. I know unsplash. Thanks. Or even books.
Do you mean the random photo generator? It's at pleinapril.com
@@thefrugalcrafter Thank you.
