Jokes and references to Hop Pop’s (Potential) Death (read description)

- There’s quite a lot of jokes and references relating to Hop Pop’s potential death in Amphibia. Most of them is just about his old age, but some of them sound a bit too serious to be considered as a joke.
Well this video aged even worse than Hop Pop himself lol
I’m really hoping these are just jokes and references and nothing else. Then again, I said the same thing about Marcy and her moments…
Edit: I just want to mention there are a couple scenes I forgot to put in the video. There’s of course the scene in Reunion where Anne was about to dissect a frog that looks like Hop Pop. Then there’s that one scene in “Ballad of Hopediah Plantar” when Hop Pop gets knocked out near the end of the episode. There’s probably more that I forgot to mention, but that’s what I know for now.
Edit 2: This video is now outdated. I guess these moments were indeed just jokes to Hop Pop’s old age. I’m glad that he didn’t die though. In fact none of the characters did. Well, except for Anne, and technically Marcy, but both somehow managed to come back alive lol
There's also in the begining of "Reunion" when Anne said "Frogs are the worst" she have a frog like Hop Pop

Just saying you missed one. When he gets peace and quiet in one episode, he thinks “ did you leave the stove on? Did you leave the door open? Will you die Alone” then goes “that was a mistake” or something idk

Remember when People thought that Grunkle Stan was gonna die in Gravity falls finale, because of the dead jokes and references to him? This is similar.
Well Grunkle Stan did have some form of death, via memory erase, even if it was temporary. Hop Pop may have some form temporary death at the end of the series. They kind of did it with Marcy already. So it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
I hope so I really don’t want to see hop pop dead.

In the commentary track for Land Before Swine, Alex said that putting Stan in the coffin was just meant to be a gag. Didn't expect fans to believe it was foreshadowing his death.

I think these are jokes to make us feel like Hop Pop is always in the verge of dying and that's progressively funnier because we start to think he is more and more imortal

In the season 3 preview, Sprig says "It's too early to call them (the Boonchuys) Mom and Dad right?"
There's a theory floating around that Hop Pop will die and the Plantar kids will get adopted by the Boonchuys at the end of the show. The line above could be foreshadowing this.

Lmao, Hop Pops hope for the future and Polly asking "If this is the future, why don't I have legs?" And Anne yelling "AND WHY AM I STILL HERE?!!!" made me laugh so hard.
I just love that show makes us think he's important figure or knows about lore very much, but later it figures out, that he's just simple farmer.
Which is weird because the plantar family book of knowledge knows a lot of weird things as why did it know about the box? And the episode were Anne and sprig go into the lower levels of the house showing the plantar family used to be adventurers.

I believe the creator likes non-traditional families above all, and thus adds an uncle or grampa as an important character on the series. I can’t recall but I believe it’s something to do with his own personal experience.
With that we could think that he wouldn’t like that character to die. But who knows…

Oh yeah! The entire red leg episode I thought it was gonna reveal they knew the whole time, but when it revealed the shroom caused it, I didn’t realize that they *legitimately* thought they were gonna die.

I’m scared and worried about the series finale. Anything can go brutally wrong for our heroes The Calamity Trio (Anne, Sash and Mar-Mar) if The Night and King Andrias finally have the box fully charged, expel them to death and have access to take over the whole multiverse. I can’t even imagine or picture how everyone’s faces will be like when this happens. Fingers crossed the show doesn’t even go there.
I agree, having such a dark ending would be shocking for any cartoon (Disney or otherwise).

Him making a big sacrifice I guess would be interesting but would also mean Sprig and Polly wouldn't have anyone left to take care of them. So it be a wonder who will take them in when would happen. If the foreshadowing rings true for him.

At this age you really stop caring if you die today, tomorrow or some other day, to the point you start joking about it and when you actually start dying you only reaction is: "oh, now? Ok, goodbye everybody" and Hop Pop is the perfect personification of that

Hop Pop is a great character for a coming of age story. He has his flaws but does the best he can. Part of growing up is realizing that parents or in his case grandparents are not perfect.

Frogs really do live in a completely different world from the newts, huh? Their bones litter the woods, they react to their entire family catching a lethal disease with acceptance because it's just so common, they lose a member every year due to hibernation. No one in Newtopia would last one day in the life of a frog farmer.

That's what got us.
Honestly though, many thought Anne would die. Even I did. Yk, the whole bit about Sasha’s near death experience in s1 finale, then Marcy slowly dying on the floor, but being healed before she could actually die in s2 finale. I connected the dots about Anne. It did happen- just not in the way I thought

yeah. when true colors was leaked, i heard someone was gonna die but didn't know who, and i honestly thought it was gonna be hop pop. so uh..... yeah let's hope he doesn't die, but i'm also not exactly optimistic considering this show is very good at foreshadowing things like that, and he's had way more stuff like this than marcy ever did

you know with how much was foreshadowed in the show, im surprised they didn't try to fake us out with a hop pop almost dying moment like all the other characters.
