Ellis is 100% accurate in his rationale for why the couple sent a request for no Apple watches. Smart watches in general are just another device that can buzz, chime, or show in photos that distracts from the moment of the wedding. I'm getting married today ironically, and I would consider doing the same now that I've considered this potential nuisance.

my wife does not wear a watch and wanted an Apple Watch. I bought it for her and after about a month she realized she preferred not wearing anything. I am 100% positive that there are non-watch people who now consider themselves watch people because of the Apple Watch

I wouldn't be wearing a watch if it doesn't count my steps and hr changes during the day. For me the community around "real watches" is opposite of things I want to be part of
I wore my Apple Watch Ultra 2 (black natch) to my cousins’ wedding with no issue. It was a brunch wedding with cocktail attire as dress code. No problem
Same! My parents couldn’t be there, because it was on the other side of the world, and it was nice to see my dads face pop up occasionally to let us know what they were thinking while watching the livestream.
I think maybe the Apple Watch thing is because of pictures? My Sister in Law is a photographer and she says all the time how peoples bright watch faces with their own pics on them are ruining the group photos and are really tedious to edit out.
In all fairness, the Instagram web app works pretty good on the iPad . It adapts in slide over and split screen. And fills the whole screen on full screen.
Ellis' thumbs up in the background when Marques compliments the purple hue of the 12 mini is the kind of quality content you just don't get in the audio version of this podcast.
People refuse to disconnect from their phone. I watched a bodycam vid yesterday where a woman called the cops but the entire time they were trying to talk to her on scene she wouldn’t stop looking at her Apple Watch notifications. Live in the moment, why do you have to have this connection when all these people are right there in front of you. Leave the Apple Watch at home and go celebrate your friends wedding.
They should institute this rule in movies and concerts. Every time I get blinded by someone's phone in the dark or see a row of people filming extended segments of the show. These events are so much better enjoyed if you're fully there and not distracted every other minute
I wear my pixel watch to formal/nice events, but I'm wearing it with a metal band and a classic analog watch face. Most people don't even realize it's a smartwatch unless they compliment it/ask about it and I tell them. It looks very similar to my old school Seiko, so it fits right in. Apple watches stand out though because of the square shape and the very digital watch face every one has. Plus any plastic band will stick out no matter the watch and shouldn't be worn to a wedding.
Go back to Seiko man. Why are you even wearing an Apple Watch? Get a nice Seiko diver and a presage. You will be set for fun and formality with the combo
@AtillatheFun I still use the Seiko for especially meaningful events, but the convenience of the pixel watch is too great for most days, especially when the only people who even notice my watch are watch people. And they're the ones coming up to me to talk about the pixel watch anyway. If it was an Omega or something on that level, I would obviously wearing that, but I'm not in that tax bracket lol
@ You could spend less than an Apple Watch and get into micro brands. Brew is a company you should check out. Idris Elba even rocks one of their watches. Another brand worth looking at is Zelos. There are a ton of options out there that cost less than an Apple Watch and look cooler.
No Apple Watches? What about Garmins? Or Samsungs? Or Googles? Specifying a brand is stupid. No unsilenced tech is an acceptable request, but these days a lot of people use smart watches for medical or other reasons and telling them not to is unreasonable.
My golden rule is to not wear even regular watches at a wedding out of respect. You'll look at the time even if it's not on purpose. And why would you look at the time? Do you have another place to be other than that person's most important day? Na bro. No watch, phone on the side on do not disturb, go raw-dog that wedding and get drunk. Also, is that wedding a casual thing? Yes on sneakers (they have to be clean). If that person is super important to you, dress shoes. It's not that hard!
BTW Andrew, rog phone has a external cooler accessory that mounts on back and connect to landscape bottom USB c port, that cooler has aux port another USB c for pass through power and few buttons like a handheld gaming device and even a sub woofer. not mean to be toxic but bro you guys should know/remember that, it's one of the main features of the phone and it comes in the box with pro phones
Also my biggest disappointment in recent changes of rog phones is having hole punch cam, I can't believe the company who used to brag about no annoying hole in display went and put it in the next generation of the same product.
As a wedding photographer, smart watches are really annoying. At best, it's a plain black square on someone, at worst, the screen is on and it's annoying to edit to make it look clean. They don't dress up well and don't photograph well.
Definitely agree with Adam on the watch at a wedding take. I was almost going to turn off the podcast hearing you guys talk about how it’s totally acceptable to wear a smartwatch at such a classy event. If it’s a beach casual wedding then maybe (I stil wouldn’t do it), but if it’s formal, you should 100% wear a classy simple nice watch. I personally only wear my smartwatch at home, shopping work (when there’s nothing too serious going on). If I’m going out to a party, date with the wife, Christmas dinner etc. I will always wear a traditional watch. Maybe I’m getting old lol, but wearing a smartwatch at formal events is a huge no-no for me.
Wearing an Apple Watch to a wedding is fine, as long as you’re not in the wedding party. But, class it up. Get a leather strap, change the watch face to something classy and simple.
my immediate thought of the Apple Watch thing is wondering if they are doing a wedding that is themed for an older time before electronics were a thing. Quite a few people do themed weddings.
@@screenoholic perhaps. This brings up questions about what tech is. If it’s seen as a tool, I would argue that tools categorically go out of style when they are replaced with better tools. If it’s something with a strong focus on style (which I concede a watch in particular is), then I guess that leaves room for certain designs to come back into style. Overall, though, I would argue tech is a tool, so I don’t think it will behave cyclically in the same way clothing does

Refusing to take the watch off shows that you care more about the ability to receive notifications, not even get them, JUST THE ABILITY TO GET THEM, than being in the moment you are in. It is disrespectful to those that wanted your company. If you can't show that you care enough about the people, most likely your own friends, to give them just an afternoon of your time then you might as well decline the offer to go because you clearly have something better to think about than the wedding right in front of you.
