So we just had someone show us that Notion has been updated to include a new browse feature inside tasks that basically solves what we were talking about. Honestly, not sure how long it's been around so our bad. We'll make a correction next episode! Still don't think it's perfect, but definitely better than how we portrayed it.
I recently retired. I spent my whole working life working in and with technology. Automotive, Aero, and even some military tech. Of ALL the podcast on RUclips, I've grown to appreciate the WVFRM take on technology. Keep up the good work fellas. Thanks for taking the time to share your perspective on the tech world. 🙂 For the record, I always just mount an external SSD and make it bootable on ANY 256 GB Macs. For regular day to day work, its more than fast enough, and a 2 TB external is cheap!...
It's true isn't it? I've listened to a few other tech podcasts but Waveform really outshines them, and that's surprising because it's such a completely different skill set than video reviews.
Lads, I have news. I have no dishes today, so I will be listening to this episode whilst either procrastinating on Twitter or working on my iPhone 16 models which I've been procrastinating for way too long on!
My thought on the Mac Mini is that it should be used "upside down." This addresses many issues: Power button is now accessible; Airflow will definitively not be an issue; and the logo is no longer visible (which will surely upset Apple executives).
i mean, the ARM Chip Macs shouldn't be turned on and off every time you start and stop using it, its much more optimal to let it sleep, turning it back on with all the apps loading back consumes more power and energy, and while in sleep it uses close to zero energy
Just saw you guys added widgets - thank you! Any way you could add an app-sized widget? Currently the smallest option is 4 tiles large, but I only have one door.
As a rock climber with calluses, I understand the microfiber cloth pain. It feels like your skin has Velcro on it and the cloth just gets stuck on it. It’s only the ones for cars and as you grab them your skin has micro tears all over it and parts of the cloth get stuck on your skin and you can just feel the cloth as it pulls on your skin.
Yes! I know exactly what they're talking about, and this is another great explanation. Also, you're right I don't have that issue right after I moisturize my hands. It's only when my hands aren't freshly moisturized I hate holding microfibers.

Great episode. For app and UI focused topic sessions I wish there was an overhead camera or a spot on the desk with a camera facing down so the team can walk over and show what they’re doing during their phone demonstration. This would be a plus for the video watchers and be no difference of an experience for audio only listeners
I think that the placement of the Mac Mini power button is justified by: it is in that place so that you can rest your hand on the top of the mac (on the oposite side of where the button is) to cancel out the force of pressing button UP. So that you dont have the mac sliding on your desk since its so light. If it was on the back like before with mac minis, you would pull the mac towards you each time you press it. I dont have one to try it, but I guess the bottom of Mini of is not much ruberry so it would slide easily..
I’m sorry Marques but you gotta give Ellis a raise and have him read those ads from now on, he’s hitting it out of the park and your ad reads just don’t cut it now 😜
the one really unspoken value of these macs (new and old) is that they're basically the cheapest way to get a high performance ML machine. because of unified memory, you buy the max RAM option and you have a decent GPU with 128GB of high bandwidth memory available to it. the software ecosystem isn't as fully developed as nvidia's but it's definitely usable and any system that remotely competes with it for this kind of task is at least 10x the cost.

The power button decision on the new Mac Mini is pure genius because, whenever you need to power it back on, you'll pick it up and go, "Wow! This thing is so small and light. Apple's the best!". 🤣
Regarding scheduling your smart outlet, you just need to set up a routine. There's not like a "scheduling" section on each item, you just make a routine to do whatever you want when you want it to happen. This works with Matter devices, like anything else.
Great episode, and sorry Andrew while I agree with many things, the PS5 controller restated the idea that fun begins with the input. Especially with PC compatibility
At @2:22, to answer Marques’s question: Where I’m from, people will pay for a parking space in the parking lot of the stadium with no ticket, and they’ll set up their whole rig and watch the pregame AND game in the parking lot. I guess it’s a preference? Or they can’t afford the seats (tickets to our NFL team’s games are astronomical) but still want to be in the general hype and atmosphere.
For those who don’t know, every iPhone has a built in white noise generator and it can be set up to be in your control center. Only downside is it uses a ton of battery.
Nintendo’s Pro Controller for Switch is widely considered one of the best, if not THE best first party controller. It has the ergonomics of the Xbox Controller, better tactility than Xbox Controller, motion controls, and the battery life is INSANE. The sticks on that haven’t been plagued with drift like Joy-cons. Sure, it lacks the style and features of the Dual Sense, but a lot of people prefer the battery life. Andrew went pretty hard on Xbox controller being better. As someone who games a lot, I think that was very true in PS3/360 days, but Sony made major strides with the PS4 controller. I can pick up most first party controllers these days and my brain just locks in on what I’m holding and it all feels right. My favorite controller largely depends on the circumstance. For instance, I only use Xbox controllers on PC because nearly all games have prompts for it, and many games don’t have prompts for PlayStation controllers. Even though I know the buttons well enough that it doesn’t matter, it annoys me because seeing the wrong prompt just feels like a bug and it takes me out of the game for a few microseconds while I have to translate. I’d rather just see the right prompts and not have to think about it. Another point- if I’m playing Nintendo 64 games on my Switch, I’d rather play them with a Nintendo 64 style controller, and that controller is widely regarded as a terrible controller these days. Context means more than feel to me.
20:27 I think you're right. Just like planned obsolescence. 51:35 The embarrassment. Marques had to be more confident with the delivery. 1:09:00 Mechanical keyboards are underhyped. Once you start using them, you can never go back, especially low-profile ones. It's like 60 FPS.

1:29:52 YES Andrew, speaking for the gamers! lol, when Marques was gushing about how good the PS5 controller was and called it the best controller in the world… I definitely was thinking… Marques isn’t even a gamer. Probably plays PS5 a couple times a month and marvels over the haptics, lol. We gamers know it’s about the ergonomics. Also the Xbox Elite controller has existed way longer and is cheaper than Sony’s version (although it does break easily with heavy use so buy a Best Buy warranty and abuse it every 2 years xD)
01:47:00 BYD's cars are named after the various Chinese dynasties (Qin, Han, etc), there is a BYD Song, which is named after the Song Dynasty (960-1279), the name has nothing to do with music lol (wish it did though). BYD Jam is a well thought of answer I gotta say haha

PS 5 controller is the best controller ever made. And symmetrical layout is the only correct layout. I couldn’t not disagree with the squad more here

Apple gives a military discount knocking the mini down to 5:39 not quite the education discount but still worth noting
Marques, you have a pixel so use it! You can archive that August thingy and if you download it back, you're still completely logged in...
I feel so seen! I was just in notion checking off tasks and i screamed! I never open it on my phone for the reasons you mentioned. A nightmare!
