Them talking about iOS home screen is HILARIOUS. I love that Andrew has the point of view of the average consumer. “I don’t have to look at their phone”. That sums it up. If someone wants to make their setup look ugly they can do that. It’s their phone
I’m a web developer and I use Safari for my personal browsing for a few reasons: 1. Syncing (especially tab groups) with my phone and iPad. 2. Better battery life. 3. I don’t want Chromium’s engine to be the only viable web renderer (which is closer to happening because Edge switched to it under the hood). 4. Most of my web dev happens in Chrome because of the better dev tools, so like having my personal browsing isolated from my dev browsing.
Ya but that's mostly for car makers and developers. I believe Mercedes, BMW and Porsche will have some of the first cars with new CarPlay. But it isn't really an user thing!
@@ieditedmyname289 I MEAN we consumers would be interacting with said CarPlay features. And "Auto Focus" is a thing. And they also had a whole segment relating to cars on a previous recent Waveform. It's not necessary but most might benefit (if you have endless pockets of money, that is).
1:47:20 Gen X’er here … the stripes are NOT from the old iPhone wallpaper. That wallpaper was a retro homage to the Apple II era of Apple with the curvy 1970s font. It's sad how many people still believe no one uses Safari. Everyone I know with a Mac in 2024 uses Safari. There's no reason to replace it anymore, it's really good and its bookmarks are synced by iCloud.
Around 50-60 percent of macOS users use Safari, while 30-40 percent use Chrome. It's interesting that you haven't met anyone who uses Chrome, given its significant user base.
It's because the adoption curve for safari took too long. Chrome was an established browser before Safari came out and people already knew how to use it
@@obsydian806 No, Safari came out 5 years before Chrome. But original Safari and modern Safari are two very different things, and Macs were not as mainstream back then as they are now.
I've switched between Firefox, Chrome, and Safari over the years. Once talented devs were making extensions for Safari, I found myself defaulting back to it. The iCloud syncing was my biggest pull, especially since devices will autofill Safari passwords in relevant third-party apps as needed-super useful now that I basically only use the Safari-generated nonsense passwords that I can never remember on my own haha
48:00 Minor point - I agree about the redundancy of Control Center's new pagination; however, it won't be that hard to access the lower pages because they mentioned in the keynote that if you hold and drag further down when swiping to open CC, it will quickly bring you through the pages without needing to scroll through each page individually so I think it'll actually save more time than having everything on one page within sub-menus.
I still use chrome. It is held back by Macos. Is is slower than edge. Safari is the best one. Coming from a person that uses chrome over the others, but uses all the other as well.
Oh that's weird. I had my speakers pretty loud with my iPhone on the desk. Didn't activate once and I glanced at it every time they mentioned Siri. Unless there's a way to un-personalize Siri from remembering your voice...?

Rearranging the home screen is my favorite thing about the new iOS. I want my apps on the bottom. As much as Marques wants to control our layouts I'm surprised Tim didn't offer him a job. 😂

1:05:49 - You said it needs A14 but i have the developer beta installed on my Iphone XS(A12 bionic) and math notes works perfectly even gets the handwriting and everything.
On screen snapping I believe there is a setting to fill in the gaps between apps. For apps partially covering each other I'm not sure if that will help. I found out about the setting from a Brandon Butch video. The setting is under "Desktop & Dock" and the setting is "Tiled windows have margins
about the gripe david had with the new control center: it seems the solution to tapping in so much to get to the wifi is partially solved by doing the swipe all the way down and instantly getting to that page. i understand that the muscle memory is to go into the little square on page 1 but now i can just swipe all the way down to the last page and see all of those options faster. i do agree with the tinting though, at first i thought it would be cool but instantly realized that there's no way the average person is going to make it look nice at all 😂

Marques is spot on. Safari and WebKit's efficiency is unrivaled on macOS. This may not be noticeable in terms of lag/hiccups on a later machine but Apple consistently markets battery life gains with Safari, maybe look into that if you're doubting its efficiency.

43:29 A couple huge advantages of the new Home Screen customization that has largely flow under the radar: 1: being able to select and move multiple apps at once 2: using tinting to achieve a low dopamine result similar to what could previously be accomplished via accessibility settings. Except now it just affects your apps and not content inside them like photos.
I agree. It’s very apparent when discussing the custom home screen colors and how they dislike other people’s taste of Home Screen preferences. I think Andrew’s perspective best reflects that of the average consumer and they constantly clown him for his takes/opinions. It’s a bit close minded at times and I can’t help but to roll my eyes every time they shut down an opinion that doesn’t align with their super “techy” world view.
I have almost always daily driven Safari on my Macs. Chrome is my alternate browser for when I need it to do a specific task, but otherwise I'm always using Safari.
33:50 there’s an option in control center to select an “audio focus mode” I once left “voice isolation” on, when I was FaceTiming someone to show them a music oriented church event and they couldn’t hear it well because of the audio filter, I regularly keep it on for when I call my wife while driving
isnt it kind of ironic that they had 1password as a sponsor of the podcast, on which they discussed WWDC with announcement of a standalone password app from apple? 💀
gotta say, I am actually a huge fan of the "subtitles go on if you rewind a bit" thing. I am awful at understanding people, but don't like to keep subs on at all times because I can't help but read them and it distracts me from the performances on-screen. Essentially every time I'm rewinding something it's to briefly turn subs on and then back off again after I see what I missed

2: using tinting to achieve a low dopamine result similar to what could previously be accomplished via accessibility settings. Except now it just affects your apps and not content inside them like photos.
Tinting... Dopamine.... God I need to go back and seriously listen to my biology teacher cause I don't get how those two are even remotely related
No one on this pod understands what the average person uses. Perspective is very important and at some points I feel like you guys are out of touch.
With Apple Intelligence, hope they’re gonna update iPad Mini to M-Series chip
28:00 No one even mentioned FireFox 😢
1:07:13 Poor David, getting his handwriting called out like that.
David is TRIPPING with the dock on the right side! 😂 24:56
33:50 there’s an option in control center to select an “audio focus mode” I once left “voice isolation” on, when I was FaceTiming someone to show them a music oriented church event and they couldn’t hear it well because of the audio filter, I regularly keep it on for when I call my wife while driving
Waveform Podcast Special discussing “Her” (2013) and reviewing tech from the movie, the world needs it!!!
isnt it kind of ironic that they had 1password as a sponsor of the podcast, on which they discussed WWDC with announcement of a standalone password app from apple? 💀
gotta say, I am actually a huge fan of the "subtitles go on if you rewind a bit" thing. I am awful at understanding people, but don't like to keep subs on at all times because I can't help but read them and it distracts me from the performances on-screen. Essentially every time I'm rewinding something it's to briefly turn subs on and then back off again after I see what I missed
Based on market data, Safari is the 3rd top browser behind Chrome and Edge (this is combined Windows and Mac)
Edge on PC eats less ram and is way faster than Chrome on Firefox. On Mac Safari eats less Ram and is way faster than Chrome, Firefox and Edge.
@@RONderluck Ok, i was just mentioning it because Adam was shocked that Safari could have so many users
My neighbors think I'm crazy cuz I'm taking all the trash laughing out loud at your guys trivia nonsense. That is just brilliant. Awesome!
They said at the start of the keynote that they were covering OS stuff and THEN going to cover AI. Why did everyone not notice this?
1.) Adam and Elis' reactions to Marques watching Her was hilarious
2.) Massive respect for the Korra reference!!
