It's a good job it's high up off the ground and hammonds small otherwise someone could do the flinstones while driving tho I like how Clarkson didn't get it welded he just put it together I guess it adds abit of character I suppose or its a drain hole because of the lack of roof tho id probably use the hard top version of this Mercedes

F F I don't think they ever really built their own cars, at least especially not projects of this level. Little interior decorative changes they most likely did actually do themselves, but thats probably it. But I agree with you, because it still felt more natural and less convenient and scripted when it showed footage of them with their cars in the building process.

Yeah I definitely think so too. It doesn't feel natural when the guys are turning up with these seemingly complicated cars such as the buggys, the eco cars and the one shown in this clip, without showing the audience where they acquired them or how the cars came to be. It all feels a bit too Hollywood and conveniently scripted, and that doesn't work with those three. I love the show a lot, but admittedly I find myself being taken out of the immersion at least twice every episode from overly scripted sections. I hope they stop doing that, or at least tone it down.
Breaking the fourth wall, in a show which is technically a non-fiction documentary.

Sadly I still enjoy watching re-runs of Top Gear from 10 years ago more than the Grand Tour.

I had a fox body mustang mated to the frame, and drivetrain of a Bronco II. 300 CID straight-6. C-6 transmission with a Hurst floor-shifter, transfer case. With a good winch, it would climb a wall.
I absolutely love this show, especially now without all the censorship crap at the BBC. It's what Top Gear strives to achieve but can never really pull it off without Clarkson, Hammond and May at the helm.

they can call this show whatever they like. as far as I'm concerned this is just good old top gear for me. After the first few episodes i wasn't sure but late in the first season it just felt like being home again. Well done Chaps

I once saw where someone had done something similar to that with a 3rd generation Mustang 5.0. From the amount of mud that was on it, I suspect they actually took it off-road...

It reminds me of a Car I used to see in Huntsville AL back in the 90's. It was a 1960 Caddy body on some kind of high rise four wheel drive chassis. It sat a good bit higher that the excellent. A bit freaky looking but it worked. Weird but it does catch your eye.

Dime a dozen in the states. Seen just about everything bolted to Bronco or K5 Blazer frame. I see old Jag 4x4's all the time.
I wish they'd shown some clips of it off-road as well

I had something like that, only it was a Fox Body (1983, I believe) Mustang dropped on the frame, and drive-train of a full sized Bronco. 300 I6, C-6 transmission, Hurst floor shifter, and 34" tyres. 0-60 in about 3 and a half minutes, downhill, with a tail-wind, but with a good winch, it would climb a wall.
The fox body is light, and has a low roof. Basically, I fixed the issue with body-sway, and cornering, but it wasn't a road car, trophy truck, nor even a rally (Somewhere in between) it was a mud bogger, and hill climber I could drive on the street. If that couldn't get me there, I needed a helicopter.
This was brilliant.
