Lovely job as usual! There’s a scene from one of your videos where you mention that you get a lot of comments saying everything you make is the same (not true) and you’re response is that the hearts wants what the heart wants. That’s scene lives rent free in my head and pops up constantly. You make what you like so you’ll actually wear it. Our entertainment is a byproduct of your sewing, not the purpose of it and I love that. Much more sustainable than making what “the people” want to see.
Thanks so much for taking the time to say this, that really means a lot! I’m going to think of this every time I get one of those comments from now on 🧡
Wonderful job on the drafting and execution of the jacket! You know… if you were to draft a jacket pattern for sale, I’m very sure lots of us would buy it! You could even potentially call it the Freya jacket as a nod to your inspiration.
Dear Janelle, you've massively inspired me to get back into my childhood love of sewing and I thank you for that. Last month I used my adult money to buy a machine, a desk, and a chair, and I cannot wait to go shopping for my first big rolls of fabric to make into beautiful clothes I will have for years and years. I may also need to find an opshop quilt too so I can follow this tutorial... Amazing work xx
I always look for welt pockets in coats/jackets. Most practical and visually appealing, imo. But I’ve always been too intimidated to sew them - this is the clearest explanation/demonstration I’ve ever seen. Also a great tutorial for putting in a lining. Thanks! The jacket is super cute!
Gosh that's beautiful. Wear it in Autumn with a pair of wide-legged high-waisted trousers in a matching rust colour. Your talent and skill never ceases to amaze me.
That bedspread has never looked so good! Really beautifully done and I love the slight Chinese vibe with the collar and ties! It looks darling on you as well!
Love it! Looks beautiful! Personally I think the ties would annoy me and I'd prefer a zip for practicality, but it really looks fabulous! Such a great make, well done! 👏
It's precious! I love the footage in front of your clothes rack, everything looks so pretty together. I have a petticoat made from a thrifted quilt for winter. You made this jacket look easy... I may try my hand at one 🌻🍄
Wow this is so gorgeous!! I’ve only just started sewing but I am so inspired by all of the beautiful quilted jackets and vests getting around, I would love to attempt this soon. Thanks for the inspo and the how-to!
Lovely video this is the jacket l want to make and you have showed me how and the pockets l have never done those but l am confident l can because of your video, you explain things very clearly great job😊😊
What a successful make 😍 and it's also such a treat to have you back 😊 I love watching your videos on Sunday mornings whilst sipping my coffee. It's become part of my weekly routine over the years and I always look forward to it.
Hi Janelle. I love how creative you are you inspire me so much! Currently making the willow dress for a christening and the instructions are very helpful and intuitive thank you for making sewing more accessible! Watching from Ireland!!
What a beautiful project! I really like all the different steps, thrifting a dream fabric, drafting the pieve from a favorite jacket you love, and using the details of the fabric to make it absolutely unique. I hope I'll be able to thrift more fabric this year! And I would love to give a try at drafting.
Excellent!❤And I’m impressed that you made up the pattern as well! Nice that the edges have cute gathered binding already made! My only suggestion would be maybe to add a top stitch around the jacket part of the neck? It’s 4 layers of puff with the collar lining & jacket so it might lay more neatly & be a nice finish if a top stitch binded it all together just off of the neck seam? Ps. My first welt pockets story: I was required to include welt pockets once in one of my fashion design projects for my university course. I had the nerve to select a very pricey fabric (trying to be boujee to get the 💯🅰️Lol) it was a wool/cashmere fabric & I designed a shoulder padded oversized boyfriend blazer. (originally on trend back then in the 80’s!) Well I can still recall almost having a panic attack before cutting those welt pocket slits into the front of that expensive fabric on the front of my blazer! I had no extra fabric & I had to do the pockets in class while being observed…for part of the project grade!👩🏼🏫So..I had one shot at getting it right!😬🫢) ✂️✂️✂️🧥😰 But i was amazed & relieved when it all worked out! And I got the 🅰️💯😃
YAY!!! Janelle is back and the inspiration is flowing! What a cool idea and lovely execution ❤ I've seen these bedspreads in the thrift stores, but now i might not wistfully pass them by...
Oh my!!! This is possibly my favorate thrift flip you've done so far! It's lovely🧡🏵 Your home in the background looks so nice aswell. I am very exited to see your new sewing space and all the plannes you have for 2024!🎉
I brought exactly the same pink fabric from spotlight last year try to follow your tutorial in making the same coat but that has since becoming an unfinished project because I wanted to fully lining the coat and I wasn't sure how to do it. Now I can finish it with this video this year 😂
*cries in Queensland* went to Tassie last year i was so glad i could borrow a decent jacket. This is just darling. Youre a great teacher and own your style ❤
Beautiful. I appreciate how thoughtful you were in the placement of the pattern on the fabric. I am a little concerned that you might want something that doesn’t have an opening in the middle so much when the winter actually comes because it looked a little breezy to me. But I’m not sure how cold cold it is in New Zealand versus New York or something. Honestly, I am in Saudi Arabia right now and it’s about 50° and I’m freezing so I’m probably a bad judge of that.
Me, an American (from the North Eastern part of the US) currently in winter thinking that's to thin there's no way it will be warm enough, than I saw you made the liner from the same fabric so doubling it and I was like oh okay. But I would need a zipper for a jacket. I hate the cold so much. Like right now it's almost 3 am (I have a sleep disorder so it's normal for me to be awake now) and it's currently 36°F / 3°C and I'm so thankful for my houses new heating system because it works so well.
Layers, my friend! It snows in Tasmania, but it's also the land of the Merino sheep. With a light cami, a merino wool thermal, a blouse, one of her knitted sweaters, and then that jacket on top, she'll be toasty as a marshmallow AND cutely dressed no matter the temperature of the buildings she enters 🔥
It's so beautifully made as usual Janelle! And you make it loo so easy hahaha. I really love how you can refer back to one of your own videos for reference. I have a question regarding the ironing of the ties.. (because once again, you make it look so easy :P) could we still use an iron IF we covered the fabric with a tea towel, or would it still melt? You tricked me lol, I thought you were going to use the ruffled edge for the sleeves too! I'm going to be on the lookout for a suitable quilt to make one!
Thank you! Yeah you could try use a cloth over the top, but still this type of fabric is so fiddly and might not stay in place. I wish I had some more of the gathered/ruffle edge so I could’ve added it to the sleeves 😭
@@RoseryApparel Ahh ok.. I might avoid the iron then If I were to find some. Lol. Ohh bugger that you didn’t have enough for the sleeves.. it’s still beautiful though!
"As the fabric is polyester and would 𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘵 if I used an 𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯" You don't sound annoyed by that fact at 𝘢𝘭𝘭, Janelle 😂 At least you got your revenge by stabbing it full of pins!

So true, I agree with you! Why invest all the time, effort, and money, in sewing something that you’re not going to use? Doesn't make any sense.
Thanks so much for taking the time to say this, that really means a lot! I’m going to think of this every time I get one of those comments from now on 🧡

I gasped when I saw the thumbnail. The curved hem is such a unique detail. Beautiful 🤩
Thank you! I’m so glad I was able to keep the lovely details of the original bedspread 😍
So cute! Those fancy pickets are like magic the way they're put together. That's what makes sewing so much fun!
This is beautiful! Now I'm on the lookout for a quilt🤩

So cute!! I’m dealing with a wrist injury right now, so I’m living vicariously through seeing videos at the moment. This did not disappoint haha

I’ve been wanting to make my own clothes for years. I think it’s time I start. Even if I make only one thing this year. I just want to start.

Hi I love this jacket and I want to make one for myself. How long did it take you to make it?
Hello! That is an amazing job. I would like to buy the pattern to make one too. Where can I find it please ?
❤❤❤
❤
As usual, your sewing is impeccable, but the bows make it look a little juvenile for a woman your age.
I actually think the ties/bows remind me of traditional Chinese clothing , it gives the jacket a very nice look
The more bows the better imo 😍
This is such a juvenile, gross and unnecessary opinion
Ageism....yuck!
