Be safe out there guys! Consider safety tips below for charging batteries. Subscribe to support the channel!
. Never leave a battery unattended while charging.
. Always know the proper spec to charge a battery at.
. Always be prepared in the event if something were to go south.
. Always keep a battery at "Storage Charge" levels, 3.80v/ cell, whenever your NOT using it- (personal preference).
Always practice proper safety and habits and you'll be fine!

I always have a bucket of playground sand near my charging station. or you can keep a big bag of sand nearby. It will contain the lipo fire instantly when you dump it on the battery. I was taught this by the tech and sales rep guys from thunder power batteries when I was racing 1/8 truggy and buggy at Amain Hobbies. I had to use it on two Spektrum 6s 5200mah lipos and a smart charger in my garage. It works like a charm. You can also charge batteries in a tray filled with sand if you don't have an ammo can.

A word of caution and advice when using steel ammo cans for storage, while they are very good for storing lipos and containing the fire if one sets off, they're a little too good due to the rubber seal around the lid. You need to cut off and remove both the small ends of the rubber seal to allow ventilation and gas expansion, otherwise you're creating another problem which would be over pressure or a bomb in short.

    • @eugenescoj
      @eugenescoj Год назад

DISAGREE! ammo cans are designed to be airtight which will contain and smother ANY fire. lipo fires are chemical fires and ALL FIRES require air. lipo's pop and burn and if in a sealed can it would smother itself from its own smoke and lack of air. lipo bags will only slow down the spread of flames during charging... not storing. storage charge and an airtight container is the best way to store a lipo battery.

@@steelrainfpv3383 while the 18650s in a tesla may be cased better than the foil type that our rc stuff uses, they're still extremely dangerous. Vapes use 18650s and they explode often. Teslas were spontaneously combusting in ft Myers after Ian from flood damage. They also can overcharge causing fires. Also, when in an accident, they are susceptible to fires that are very hard to extinguish

    • @Unmaleable

@@steelrainfpv3383Have you not see. An EV fire before? The Tesla that crashed and burst into flames for instance. Li fires are just as fierce and hard to put out as Lipo fires. It will cook you in about 30 to 90 seconds if you cant get out... the truth about EV's is and why they went into production after the technology was around for decades already is because the Subscription based model becoming the new business standard.
If a car has a gas engine you can bypass just about anything. With an Electric Vehicle the manufacturer can send your car commands, force you to pay for subscription features and lock you out of your car or shut it down if you down pay a subscription. With a gas car you can bypass all of that and still get your car to run and drive. They rolled it out under the guise of "clean energy" to make people better accept EV as environmentally friendly. Disposal of these batteries causes more pollution than a running combust engine.
If you don't believe what I'm saying just watch this prediction come true: *Currently Teslas longest range battery can go 405 miles. In the future range will be subscription based. You will have a car capable of driving 400 miles on one charge. But without subscription to the Battery Range package you'll only be able to drive 200 miles on one charge*

So, was just charging one of my batteries. Went upstairs for a few minutes to talk to someone. I hear a very faint pop, equivalent to a really loud bubble gum pop. Somehow my instant reaction was to go back downstairs as fast as I can possibly move. The battery was smoking and expanding rapidly. I grab it bare hand LUCKILY had that awful fireproof bag that you tested sitting right next to my charger. It engulfed in flames as I was freaking and running toward my basement bathroom. Threw it in my walk in shower and turned the shower on.
In my opinion, the really awful bag did save a catastrophic event. It kept the flames down just enough so I could somehow manage to hold on to the bag for just long enough to get it to the shower.
Moral of the story is, I honestly did not realize how dangerous these batteries actually were. Just kinda brushed off the whole fire hazard Danger blah blah blah. Get the good bags people. I also have been using a really large cooking pan if you still don't have a bag from when your first one burnt up....

@@georgeparsons6632 a lipo fire is a chemical fire. It will keep going until the rest of it's hosting fuel is depleted. I basically just put the bag out. If I attempted to put the battery out with that one can as soon as it combusted I would have used 2-3 cans. I do not know of a larger size of what I used, I just have two of them handy. That's why I have an open ammo can nearby if something were to go up in flames I'd pick it up with my gloves and put it in the ammo can and run that bit*h outside and let it do it's thing. In all seriousness. You want it out of anything you care about's way...

@@georgeparsons6632 unfortunately I do not know if those two fire extinguishers will work as affectively in a chemical fire. I didn't buy them but it was a deal. I should have taken a picture to do more research but I was destined to find another can of what I used.

After seeing this, its obvious that a metal can is the only safe way to store and charge lipos. its irresponsible of vendors to sell these "safe bags" that obviously do nothing. That's how I've been storing my lipos IN MY HOME! The bag is useless, it might as well be a plastic store bag! Thanks for making us aware. You sacrificed your good batteries which cost you money! Thank you!!!!

I just experienced this in the worst way. I bought a pair of 4s lipos for my SBR. I placed on of them on a charger, and it damn near burned my house down. I WILL NEVER CHARGE LIPOS IN MY HOME AGAIN! If i wasn't up late, I would have most likely loss family members. Extremely Dangerous when they go bad!

notice how the balancer is not connected and it is raw power being dumped in to the pack. i have talked to company's who make li-pos and most of this is false. it only happens when people try to blame there fires on packs. now li-ions do explode. we have all seen that. but as li-pos do not unless they are abused in such matters where they are not connected to the balance poet to give proper charge to the batteries. non of this will happen in real life of the batteries as long as you take care a
