  • Brandon Hewitt here with BRandomFishing and welcome to the channel. Today we go flyfishing on the Texas Colorado River the the two bridges trailhead at the Colorado River Refuge Park in Bastrop. It is about an hour drive from Austin and is a great place when the temps are hot and it hasn't rained in a while. The water here can get surprisingly clear!
My buddy Sam_pfeff tied me up a 3" Gamechanger because I have never used one before and I am HOOKED! He is an artist when it comes to making flies and this is no exception. The action in the water is amazing and we have some underwater footage you can see how lifelike this bait is.
I end up catching a Largemouth Bass and a Guadalupe Bass. It is always fun on the fly rod and it is nice to get a couple different species!
Sam is starting up an online fly tying store through instagram. Go send him a Direct Message (DM) and he can make any fly you can think of. If you tell him I sent you he will give you a discount (I don't get a kickback, I just really like his flies) Here is his Instagram link or just search sam_pfeff

You should check out my camping video, I put in at fisherman’s and solo camped on an island, then took out at Colorado river refuge. It was epic! I love this river too

Great video, I have found it "better/easier" to use lines like RIO streamer tip/Big nasty/outbound short or similar when fishing these. Makes it so much enjoyable to cast.

I am still learning how to cast efficiently. I really want to dig more into it next year. BFS fishing is my favorite, followed by fly fishing.

It's not as hard as you think to tie a gamechanger. What's hard is to trim and shape them so that they swim correctly. Tedious, but fun to tie.

I bet! It must take a while with all the segments. It is a one of a kind action though!

Nice man. I think it's the first time I see you fly fishing. I really like all the more rare and unique bass species like the guads

Thanks for watching. I have a pretty cool video from last year where I was on my kayak chasing schoolies on the lake that was a lot of fun to film. I like to dabble with the flyrod when I feel like changing it up a bit.

Nice! Never fly fished myself, but my Uncle swears by it. That lure looks slick.

Thanks! I def recommend trying it out. For some reason it feels more challenging and natural to me. And YES the footage doesn't do it justice. That gamechanger looks amazing in the water. Thanks for watching!

Thats a brute of a fly. Looks great on the water. Nice bass. If you had caught a carp on it, that would have been impressive!

hahaha, no kidding. You never know how hungry these river monsters can be. I will have to take a second rod with me next time to target the carp with a scarpion or something next time. I bet they would fight like crazy in that current.
