Horror has never been my bag, tbh. At least in terms of actually playing them. Mostly because a lot of the genre tends to seem pretty mechanically shallow, to me, but I do deep dives into horror media relatively often because there is that part of my brain thats just, morbidly curious. Psychological horror in particular is something Ive always been drawn to. Maybe because im a sucker for a good twist, and Psychological horror can completely pull not just the rug, but the entire floor out from under you when done right. Its really the only horror that can make me feel any real dread from games at this point, the complete perversion of normality that still manages to trick you into thinking everything is just fine. And i really appreciate your insight into how, despite all their differences, these genres both have huge pitfalls with the potential to fully undermine the entirety of the horror its been setting up. Awesome vid as always!
Personally, due to being super easily startled and so many jumpscares in recent horror, I usually like to learn about horror games more than play them. The farthest I go are Bloodborne or Resident Evil games or games based on RE, because they play more like action/puzzle games with horror athestetics. But I still remember going through PT back on the PS4 and being scared out of my mind.
I prefer psychological horror since I'm too easily startled by jump scares. I haven't played much horror but I do like the occasional horror game lets play.
Great video but i feel like now days a lot of mascot horror games are trying mostly to appeal to a younger audience since its pretty easy to gain a lot of attention from kids, I have young siblings who watch a bunch of animations and videos about garten of banban or poppy playtime and a lot of it is just brain rot and really stupid but in the end it brings more attention to the game itself and I feel like that's the end goal for a lot of these game devs and I feel like that's ruining the genre since you can have actual scary mascot horror games but since people think mascot horror is for kids there's gonna be tons of videos made to target kids
I mentioned towards the end that mascot horror is most likely unintentionally aimed at kids, at least the ones that are actually trying, Bendy and I would say FNAF along with a few others aren't explicitly targeting kids, but ones like Banban and to an extent poppy, absolutely are, and they fully know what they're doing
@@AstralKat it is a shame that mascot horror is mostly seen as "for kids", i myself was pretty young when i came across fnaf but at that time i feel like it was really targeted towards kids
I dont think FNAF was imo, neither was Bendy TBH, it just so happens that a lot of the youtubers who played the games had younger audiences and the event horizon kind of took over from there, now instead of it being "horror game that's meant for older audiences but kids will watch because youtubers exist" now its "horror games pandering to kids knowing content farms will run with what they give them"
@@AstralKat i feel like alot of these content farms started off cus of fnaf, youtubers like iulitm would just compile hours worth of jumpscares either from fan games or the actual games and that seemed to gain alot of attention from kids plus alot of animation videos too i feel
Thanks so much for watching everyone! Whats your favourite kind of horror game?
My favorite horror game is Bendy and the Ink Machine, too.
What happened to Sky?
@@210KingOfficial same person, I just rebranded the channel in 2022 after a hiatus. Theres a video about it still on the channel!

great video as always astral!
though no fear and hunger mentioned 😔
I think that the origin of modern mascot horror can be traced back all the way to Amnesia The Dark Descent from 2010.
Yeah, this game is the origin point for these kind of horror games

I used to scare easily as well but my morbid curiosity would always get the better of me lol, now I'm mostly numb to horror games due to overexposure
Another amazing video! personally I'm a sucker for the dread that pulls you deeper and deeper in that only psych horror can deliver

Yeah same, experiencing a horror game is much more manageable through lets' plays.
That's good. I hate having Jumpscare noises whenever I watch a RUclips horror video.
As do I, which is why I opted not to include them
>"best kind of horror games"
>Omori and Bendy in the thumbnail
>Persona 5 character in intro
😧
yea... is there an issue?
@@AstralKat dunno. You kinda cooked in the vid
Thank you?
