The SU-35 dwarfs the F-16 in size, boasting dimensions that are approximately 47% longer in length, 61% larger in wingspan, and 12% taller in height. In contrast, the Viper's compact profile provides it with a lower radar cross-section, enhancing its stealth capabilities. The SU-35 is powered by a pair of afterburning turbofans, and boasts over 2 times higher engine thrust compared to the F-16v. The SU-35 can carry 58% more weight than the Viper. The flanker’s maximum speed of 1726 mph surpasses the F-16v's 1535 mph by a margin of 12%. This speed advantage provides the flanker with faster response times. As far as combat radius is concerned, the Russian aircraft’s combat radius of 994mi is almost 3 times greater than the Viper’s. This increased radius enhances its effectiveness in both offensive and defensive roles. The SU-35's exceptional service ceiling enables it to operate at an altitude 9000 feet higher than the F-16's. This could potentially play a significant role in spotting and engaging adversaries from higher altitudes. The Su-35 is equipped with Irbis-E Pesa radar, which can detect a target up to 217 mi (350 km). However, to ensure a 100% hit rate, the radar’s range is reduced to 62.14mi. The aircraft’s OLS-35 passive infrared search and track system locates and tracks airborne objects without emitting waves. While the Khibiny electronic warfare system disrupts and confuses opponent radar and communications. In comparison, the heart of the viper's avionics is its APG-83 Aesa radar. Which is based on the radars of F-22 and F-35. This radar can detect and track 20 targets from an impressive distance of 230mi (370 km). The Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod aids the pilot in precise ground target identification and tracking. While the Helmet-Mounted Cueing System facilitates weapon and sensor aiming with a wide field of view. The jet’s higher thrust-to-weight ratio of 1.13 further enhances its maneuverability. On the other hand, the F-16v is renowned for its exceptional maneuverability, earning it the nickname "Viper" for its snake-like agility in the air. But the SU-35 can accelerate and climb faster, making it more responsive in dogfights. The Su-35 is equipped with a total of 12 hardpoints, including 2 on the wingtips and 10 on the wings and fuselage. For long-to-medium range engagements, the Su-35 is armed with R-77 and R-27 missiles. The R-77 comes with an impressive range of 120mi (193 km), while R-27 has a maximum range of 110mi (177km). For shorter distances, the flanker relies on the R-73 infrared guided missile. Equipped with thrust vectoring technology, this missile can hit its targets up to 75 degrees "off-boresight". Which means that these missiles can engage targets outside the direct line of sight. For dogfighting, the Su-35 is equipped with a 30mm cannon. On the other hand, the viper is armed with a variety of missiles. For long range air-to-air engagement, the viper is armed with world famous Aim-120 amraam missile. The most recent version of the Aim-120D has an impressive range of 100mi. After firing this missile, the aircraft's main radar guides it until the mini radar on the nose of the missile takes over. This enables the pilot to maneuver beyond the enemy's radar detection range. For short-range engagements, the F-16 is armed with Aim-7 and sky Flash. The F-16 can also fire high-off boresight missiles like Aim-9X and Python. For close-range engagements, the aircraft has a powerful 20mm rotary cannon.

You have deliberately forgot about AWACs and ground based radars they can easily detect and track F-16 and can provide information to Su-35 or any other Russian fighter jets
This was a one to one comparison. With AWACS it 'd be a different game altogether.
@@Grid88 And if you're talking a Ukraine scenario (no block 70s) then you'll need to add in the F-16s being low and slow on the deck due to GBAD, whilst the SU-35S will be high and fast lobbing R-37M from well beyond the range of any AMRAAM. Plus the superior EW on the Russian jet, the lack of AEW of the opponent and the outlook becomes pretty grim.

even if you are rigth it is technically inferior to f-16, it is actually an integrated system with other air defense systems.
An example situation, a pair of f 16s take off, the Russians detect them and take off against them. The F 16 launches rockets with a range of 160 km. direction of some target and turns back, but deliberately flies at low speed. The idea is that a hypothetical pair of Su 35s would be in range of a Patriot system, but it was turned off and hidden while the F16s passed over it. A salvo from the Patriot and Su 35 have been taken down.
Other systems that are cheaper with a smaller range can be deployed, working on the same principle, i.e. air defense traps.
@@radislavrashev7266 LOL, F-16s block 15 cannot see that far - they would use link & will fire from much closer. But the question is - will they fire at all or be scrapped by then. Russia can engage from well over the AIM 120 range & this was proven in Ukraine with lots of aircraft downed.
Patriot system has low range as well - it has proven very ineffective in actual combat in Ukraine.
The reason why Ukraine is getting old stuff is partly availability partly an excuse for when they get scrapped.

The latest variant "different beast" does nothing to change the fact that an F-16 is not a match for an Su-35. I don't even think that it would be a match for a nerfed-spec Su-30 export variant, let alone the real McCoy.
Su35 has enormous range missiles. Actually su35 has longest range missiles in the world aswell as and excellent radar. Bvr also has excellent jamming systems. Its an absolute beast of the skies. Considering its radar etc i would say su35 bvr can challenge any jet in the world easly.

su35 is a completely diffrent class. the only thing the f22 has on the su35 is stealth which isnt what it once was the su35 can pick the f22 up at bvr ranges. f16 is a suped up honda civic the su35 is a buggati
Look, I’m not a fan of America but the radar on F-22 is a lot better than an SU-35. F-22 has such a low radar cross section too. Even if ground based radars or AWACS pick up F-22 and relay information, it will be hard for SU-35 to get missile lock before it is too late.
It’s be a different story if USSR hadn’t broken apart or even with SU-57 but it is really not a fair comparison between SU-35 and F-22.
Thing is it doesn’t matter for Russia. They have no plans of attacking NATO or USA. NATO knows if they attack Russia that Russia will not pull punches and will have to use tactical and possibly strategic weapons. The F-22 can’t do shit if all the bases within combat range are annihilated along with the plane. F-35 can’t do shit when its carriers are sunk.

@@YankeeVatnik1917 yeah, as IRST is getting a lot better it can be combined with to help out. Still doesn’t have the range. It’s really different with Russia though because they won’t be invading NATO and only defending against NATO attack so they will have lots of layered air defense systems to go with AWACS and planes. S350, S400 and S500 at various angles WILL be able to detect F-22 and F-35 a lot farther than straight on. Another thing is “AI.” I’m not sure the level it has gotten too hit at some point it will be a lot easier to decipher and track even something with such a small cross section as it is still flying like a jet. No insect will he flying that fast. It still takes a shitload of processing power to do this in real time and then communicate it to operators and it is yet again a different thing to get a lock. The S350, 400 and 500 having very large and separate search radars and engage by radars does favor that over planes at greater ranges.
There is also intercepting the radar of F-35 and F22. They have low proof intercept radar so it is very hard to detect it as an actual signal coming from a plane, especially if you factor in jamming. Any progress Russia or China may have made to do this would be something extremely secret and is a trump card you wanna hold real close.
You have to factor in that getting and a lock and hit when you factor those two things are in play is tough and jamming makes it much worse. Even though NATO is nowhere near Russia on this it’s not like they are slouches.
That does go two ways though and makes American stealth planes much less effective. I think the AI(future) and jamming are things that can even it in Russia’s favor because they are defending. If Russian Jamming is effective and the jets have to get a lot closer to Russian resources to do anything then the stealth is definitely not helping them so much.
Don’t get me wrong, Russia has the longest beyond visual range kills both in an aircraft and from a SAM but we can’t pretend that even an S-400 is likely to be capable of hitting an F-35 or F-22 like they shot down a Ukrainian fighter. Other western planes will have trouble from S-400 within several hundred miles though. We will see this with Ukrainian F-16s, even if they wind up piloted by western contractors.

Apart from the radar capability, the aircraft should have excellent avionics and missile to hit with accuracy in BVR engagements.
I have seen russian su35 bvr pilot interview week ago, when asked about f35 he actually said its just piar crap. He said their radar can detect stealth aircraft hundreds of kilometers away. Also he said that people that think because you get detected far away means its advantage are full of shit. He said he can easly avoid missiles shot hundred kiloemeters away. Meaning if f35 detects and shoots first it wont matter he will avoid it. Besides he said his radar can also said his missiles are longer range than any us jet missile

yes and odds are the russian AWACS will detect the f16 rather then the su35. Also the AWACS will engage the s400 rather than the su35.

This is not exactly apples to apples - F-35 is a heavy long range strike aircraft. F-16V is a light, cheap fighter.
A better comparison would be F-15EX.
Comparisons are a bit misleading as it would be system fight, Russians in defense and US in attack.
Also Su-35 does not have a true PESA radar - its a AESA - PESA hybrid.
Both in BVR and VVR Su-35 has clear edge.

Actually the detection range of the new aesa for the f16 is about the same as 300km. You also compared a fox 3 hypersonic to a fox 2 short range irccm missile. Which are completely different things and shouldn’t be remotely compared. You should rather compare it to the new aim 260 or the meteor missile. Also, the range of 200km is for a best case scenario, fly straight towards the missile kind of fight, and that never happens, as you’ve probably seen the video of the f16 dodging 6 sam missiles with no chaff/flares, all pilots have the training to defend against incoming missiles. You need to learn more about the tactics and understand how actual bvr fights go before you can say if something is better than the other. Seeing as the f16v and su35 are both modernized 4+ gen aircraft with advanced radars and missiles. As far as bvr fights go, these, rn from publicly available information these are evenly matched.

the conclusion you made ..."that AESA radar is better then PESA" is not very accurate in my opinion. At the very least we should be able to agree that the russians have very good AESA radars but opted to use the PESA for the SU-35 (on the mig-35 the customer can choose either PESA or AESA).
PESA is used for BVR detection and long range missiles have locking capability with IR ,visual and radar lock from 100s of miles! US fighter planes have advantages over countries that don't have counter measures from long range radar overseeing the entire sky!

Depends who is flying it. If it is Ukrainians who have barely trained a year on the plane and spent 1/3 of that training learning English to actually be able to be trained on the plane it may be 9/10 or worse. With high trained American pilots it is a much more fair fight. Still it could probably be killed from outside of F-16 missile range. The R-37 got the longest range air to air kill in history when it shot down a Ukranian SUV-37 from 140 miles away. That alone tilts this heavily in favor of SU35 even with absolute best western pilotdx

Great production and info! With an AWACs in theater, the F-16 will know where the enemy is even though it cannot detect it with on board radar, then engage at missile range with its own radar. Also, I do not believe that the Russians have anything as good as the AIM-120. In BVR the missile matters as much, if not more, than the plane.
Close in WVR the Viper is probably toast though.

The su 30 can out maneuver the F-16 below 200kts. Anything above and f-16 can turn tighter and harder. BVR is not even a question. The Vioer has an AESA 83 SAB aka the F-35 radar. Theres a reason why Russia is foaming at the mouth over Ukraine getting the F-16 (political views aside)

It most certainly is, but Russians don't fight as a network. The USAF uses their Air Power as a fighting network. Every aircraft asset has a specific role in the fight. Overall the US pilots have way more flight time than their Russian counterparts.
