    If u were into marvel comics in the late 80s and early 90s the artstyle is pure nostalgic!

    The old edition came with 10 heroes. The change here is that they put in two full teams from the fictional comics lore. The Freedom Five were already in the core box, but the Prime Wardens included two heroes (Captain Cosmic and Argent Adept) that originally came in expansion content. They wanted to lump the teams members together and so brought those two over as well as Unity who was a sidekick/intern for the Freedom Five. This means that one original edition hero (Visionary) got bumped to a later box of Definitive Edition stuff.

    This game has been on my radar for awhile now but I was never sure with the different variants of it. After watching this video I will definitely be adding this one to my collection to play. Keep up the awesome content my friend. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this game.

    I was able to get the Enhanced Edition brand new in wrap for $14, then out of stock Villains new, for $10, the Villains of the multiverse for $12 and one mini expansion for $4.
    I’ll get whatever else they have on their website.
    Fun game. I love deck building (Star Realms, Marvel, Dune, Astro Knights…) happy to add this old school gem to the collection.

    Top tip: You can sleeve the dividers with 70mm x 70mm sleeves which give them a bit of a boost in the box.

    How's the best thing about old Sentinels compared to the new: The comboing between heroes?(For example you had one hero give another a card play, which gave the third a power usage etc OR something like Omnitron playing Unity's Golems of the top of her deck without her needing to destroy her equipment to play them)

    This game is a go to for my playgroup, we always seem to sneak in a game or two even when we have some other games going on.
    I have all the official product for Sentinels, and was looking at if I should get the new edition and so far I would have to say no.
    I like a lot of the new art assets and inclusion of keywords(we play magic, so keyword are something my group can understand very well), but there's nothing new for someone that has been playing it for some time and has expansions.
    It will be interesting to see what comes out in the future.
    Thanks for the overview of what's what.

      I'm a megafan so naturally dived in but still have all the old content. For the typical person though yeah if you have all of one, you can save the cash.

      I do feel that it's a lot new. In the most obvious case, Bunker, Tempest, and Fanatic are effectively all-new heroes. Beyond that, nothing feels the same as the old edition, as Definitive has much faster tempo...by comparison the old edition tended to plod along, especially when heroes didn't find a specific card or two.
      A simple example which rings true for the design throughout: Instead of simply attacking and playing 1 card per turn, Warlord Voss now summons one of his flagships when he flips, and he plays an extra card if the first card he plays is a Gene-bound (weak card).
      Which shows, in this edition the Villain and the Heroes are expected to do something significant every turn. The difference leaves nothing in the game feeling quite the same as before, even the stuff that was perfectly well-designed in the original.

    Loved the original Sentinels, but gotta say Definitive Edition is so much better to me! I was surprised how even the small changes like health dials, keywords, and clearly defined phases helped quicken the game and improved the overall experience. The big and small changes to some of the characters have been incredible to play too. Can’t wait to get Rook City Renegades, which has way more exciting new things!

      That would require a whole video to go into that much detail as there are little tweaks in all sorts of places but honestly the only major changes are that Bunker and Fanatic are now playable again.

    A few villains are harder with five heroes (like villains that are beaten with Hx2 cards are under it, or must have H-1 cards of a certain type out to flip).

    I prefer the old art. I understand what they where going for with the new art and it seems like a cool idea but it just comes off as unprofessional and lazy to me. Now I know it isnt but what I'm getting at is it feels like my 5 year old found some pictures online and printed them out to use them. It used to have a nice unique look that was consistent on all the cards for the most part and even the ones that changed the look, example extreme prime wardens, still looked close enough to the rest of the art.

    • @TheBrokenMeeple
      @TheBrokenMeeple  Год назад

      I can take or leave either art, but I get you, the old one feels more like a comic.

    • @kitsunin4690
      @kitsunin4690 Год назад +1

      Weird, I love the new art. Feels like it could've come straight out of the pages of a comic book. The really awesome thing is, when you know the lore, you can even see that the style varies from card to card depending on which era of the comics timeline the event depicted in the card occurred. If you ask me, that's awesome!
      I did like the old art, it was more colorful and messy in a playful way. But I love the stronger comic theme and...being able to tell what's actually happening...in the new art.

      @@pandosham in my opinion, an artist doesn't lose their charm by choosing to hone their artstyle. The art is just as unique as it ever was, but Adam Rebottaro is no longer an amateur, he is an expert capable of creating exactly what he wants to create.

    I like the new version a lot, but the proprietary sleeves aren't my favorite. I may replace them with my personal favorite mayday premium sleeves. They just slide around too much. Perhaps over time that won't be an issue. But yeah, the box was not designed for their own sleeves, at least not in an organized fashion. That bugs me but I can forgive it. At the moment I can't tell which version I like more, but I have years of experience with the old version so maybe I just need to get more comfortable with the rebalanced characters. Still buying everything because it is stellar

    Hmmm... the keywords thing would be better if there were reference cards but without them I'm handing around the rule book all the time where the original cards, while wordy, have the rule right one the card.
    Seems like all those of us who have a lot of the original need are some dials...

      The Rook City Renegades KS update from today shows reference cards that they'll be including due to popular demand. Sure that doesn't help the core box, but it is something they're addressing.
