#hogwartslegacy
For the people saying saying that the reason is because it's a single player game and I am just "yapping"... Skyrim was a single player game (even if you will forget about mods)... Witcher 3 was a single player game... Cyberpunk 2077 was a single player game... yet those games were still huge 20 months after the release.
Because they were getting new content, because they were getting expansions, because the were getting (and still are getting) mods...
This game isn't. It's not about being forever game. It's about supporting it.
This video is exactly about that.
you are right about it doesn't have expansions etc but its not the same time as used to be, like 10 15 yeas ago everyday a new game comes , how can anyone play the same game over and over, when a new one is around the corner?
You are comparing it to Skyrim. Great choice!
Skyrim had 60 million sales
20 months later 78.000 players
jan 2014
~0.13% retention
Hogwarts legacy had 24 million sales
20 months later 31.000 players
sept-2-2024
~0.129% retention
I was generous at both and took a peak moment for both the games of the 20 months, give or take a couple of months.
Because both would be much much lower if checked on the exact 20 month mark, but especially Skyrim lol. Because the summer of 2013, it pretty much flatlined
Disclaimer. Sales are total sales and player count is steam stats
@monkeymode5652 Important Distinction! Skyrim had all three its major DLCs released by that time (Dawnguard - in 7 months, Hearthfire - in 10 months, Dragonborn - in 13 months).
For Hogwarts Legacy, 20 months later we have only Photo mode
@tasosm7x So you should move towards next "shiny thing" and waste your money?
@@Nyxsonok, so what you are saying is that even with all those dlc's and bonuses, they only managed to retain 0.001% more players?
Not a great argument
It made $1 billion dollars. It's a single player game. People beat it. They moved on. It's a mega success.
This obsession with games lasting forever is why the games industry is collapsing.
See pinned comment ❤
Or developers just don't have passion, they're in it for the money
This is a single player story mode game. What are u yapping about? Live service games have ruined you guys. You played and finished it, now you have moved on to other games you enjoy. That doesn't mean this game is dead. You do not need to play a game for years and years to be consider it a success.
Lmao seriously
Exactly.
See pinned comment ❤
@@Nyxson lol you can't compare hogwarts legacy to skyrim :'D ...
@Toni-sz7xm "Single Player Story Mode Game"... Yes, you can
It's a single player game with no meta or live service. People just moved on. Like Palworld.
See pinned comment ❤
@@Nyxson Still, it is not a Live Service game, nor has it modding ressources for additional content.
@@Nyxson oh, ok i get it now.
Best thing about Hogwarts Legacy was that I could play it, have loads of fun with it, rank it as easily one of my top 10 favorite games of all time, and move on. We need more games like that. We don't need DLC, we don't need live services, we just need great games that we can play and then move on. Hogwarts Legacy didn't need to add anything extra. It was a complete game at launch, as it should be.
Agreed with absolute most of it... except for DLC... Witcher 3 was complete game on launch too, but Blood and Wine was awesome... Cyberpunk 2077 was complete too (broken, but complete), but Phantom Liberty was awesome... TES4 Oblivion was complete game too, but Shivering Isles was amazing...
Harry Potter universe is vast and amazing... We need DLC (or rather, we need Expansion)
@@Nyxson I agree! I should have worded it a little differently, especially considering Phantom Liberty is one of my all time favorite gaming experiences. I just don't think that we always need DLC for every game. I will probably check out any DLC Hogwarts Legacy gets if it does. I am just happy sometimes when gaming companies don't milk the success as that, at times, does more harm than good.
Hogwarts legacy is going be 2 years old it have more people playing it than dragon age veilguard and Star wars outlaw
Its simple. Its a story driven single player game. Most people have played it and moved on. No different then elden ring. It had a boost from the dlc but what happened? People moved on.
Did you just say that people moved on with Elden Ring? First, DLC launch was not just a boost, it had almost as much players as entire Hogwarts Legacy launch AND it is still 30k-50k players constantly... Oh, and it is year older than Hogwarts Legacy!
@@Nyxson Hogwarts has not had a massive dlc like that and probably sadly will not. My point is too what you said of you don't here much about legacy any more. It's normal. Same with just about every other single player game. People will still go back and play them but once the hype is done they usually vanish off from websites and people's minds.
I played it a couple times but this game has no replay factor. Play the games once for the story, play it a second time to collect everything and... that's it. It's an ok game and enjoyable enough for a couple play throughs but nothing to keep you going back again and again.
I mean this is what happens when a game doesn't have additional content added to feed a player base that has the attention span of a goldfish. I remember growing up in a time when not a lot of games were being developed, so playing the same game on repeat was a thing. Now we live in an era of content dump, so games are consumed and disregarded in a flash. Good video, though, I think the dislikes are from people who took the title of the video the wrong way and didn't watch it in its entirety.
Not sure what the point you're making is. Why does the game need to be alive and in everybody's mind 20 months after release? Nobody's talking about it because there's nothing new to say.
See pinned comment ❤
@@Nyxson I read the pinned comment. It doesn't address my argument at all. It just makes mention 3 of the best selling games of recent years, and the fact they released new content after initial release. Of course that's a (lucrative) strategy, but why should it be the norm? Why not have everything you want in the product on release and be done with it? Seems perfectly natural to me to stop developing the product once it hits the stores.
Also, just to be super clear in case your argument is: "These other successful games did it, so why not this one.". That's not a very good argument. I can just as easily name other single player games that didn't put out paid DLC and were hugely successful. You're just cherry picking examples that fit your rationale, which is... you want more content for the game? I suppose. Just a weird way to go about communicating that in my opinion.
Nothing happened. It's a 2 year old single player game...this is normal...we really need to get off this live service BS train
I agree. Seriously, I think the game was very innovative in combat. They followed a Arkham style combat but with such a great spin of spells. And I have never in my life have ever seen any game have such seamless usage magic allowing to combine so many spells in a single flow of combat and so smoothly. But the mostly empty world and lack of proper narration with no updates or DLCs made it disappear from our minds. Also, I remember that there were talks that they were making a new DLC and player number increased as well around the time, but it was just another game about quidditch. TBH, it was such a dumb move to make this a separate game instead of capitalizing on the popularity of Hogwarts Legacy, they could have sold it more as a DLC with more active online player base while also brewing some life back into the original game and getting some sales on it as well.
I think it’s mostly because it released ‘complete’ sort of speak. It didn’t need or require anything else really added to it outside of maintenance and fixes to bugs/performance. DLC wasn’t really necessary and I’m not sure exactly what they’d have added. Think it’s likely whatever they had in mind will be added to the sequel which I’m certain is coming.
Its a good game but I found it lost its "magic" (hah) after 15-20 hours.
I like Harry Potter movies, read only one book, finished old games from PS1. I like the Witcher, RDR2, Skyrim, ToTk and I surprisingly liked Jedi Survivor. I casually play games and kinda busy with work.
Is this game worth my time and 16USD?
Yes
I'm gonna be honest: Hogwarts Legacy was a decent game, but nothing extraordinary. The world building and combat system were really good, but the game was severely lacking in the narrative compartment. The characters were also hit or miss, some great and some very lackluster. The side quests were pretty meh, and I will NEVER forgive them for not including Quidditch, despite broom riding being actually pretty good. It felt like such a dumb decision, later made more clear by the fact that they are basically selling the Quidditch game separately... truly an EA tier move. And let's not even talk about the performance, which was INSANELY BAD in some areas like Hogsmade, and was never truly fixed because the devs took the money and ran. And as a final nail in the coffin, the game was marketed as an RPG... which clearly isn't. There aren't really any real consequences for roleplaying as an absolute demon/deatheater kind of character. You can spam unforgivable curses and people won't really give a damn or punish you for it... it won't even impact the relationship with the other characters, so what was even the point in including them? The game sold like crazy mainly because we Harry Potter fans were literally STARVING, we haven't seen a good HP game since the Prisoner of Azkaban on the PS2, pretty much. Many more copies were sold also because many people wanted to teach a lesson to the woke mob that, ironically, wanted to boycott the game despite it being pretty inclusive and even featuring a trans character... just because they hate JK Rowling. I might sound harsh, but that's the truth. I enjoyed the game for a while, but I don't think I will be giving any more money to these developers, judging by how poorly supported the game was, and by how they ignored basically any feedback. Again, this was a decent entry in the franchise... but that's it.
The sirona(?) character is mysterious and forced, but oh well magic.... It basically magic itself to change gender. Luckily, the gameplay, combat and being HP save the game from total failure.
clickbait, video. game had great success and now with the sale it got a fresh set of people playing it. Also its weird calling a offline game for a dead game, meaning with the phrase a dead game is a multiplayer game that has barely any to non players on active servers.
Funny how you decided to write this comment without actually watching the video and only seeing a single word in a thumbnail... if you would spend time that you used to write this comment by actually looking even on a thumbnail, you would see the "sale spell" that wizard in an image is about to cast on "Dead" banner...
But no, you had to feel important... You are better than this
@@Nyxson because you're video is pointless comparing it to Skyrim, Witcher, CP2077 and the anime live service gacha games when all of those either got dlcs , longtime community mod support or updated by devs via events
The same cannot be said to a ton of other very linear singleplayer games besides Hogwarts like God of War, Spiderman, Life is Strange , etc.
Tbf the game is super close to being a Simulation. All they had to was stick a timetable in, with rewards/punishment for attending/missing lessons and it'd be next gen quality (there's mods for this for a year, already).
As for a game's popularity, just look at every single AA/A game that's released this year. They all glow up for a week ish, then sharply decline within a month, no matter the genre. The gaming audience has become incredibly shallow due to many factors. Beyond which the true targetted audience has gone from caring about quality to caring about social media (which has almost nothing to do with a game!).
Not enough consequences to your actions. No moral system
Games like this usually die because the creators stop updating the game
AND when they don't have nod support (official at least)
This is unironically 5 minutes and 26 seconds of absolutely nothing its just words that mean nothing coming out of this guy. I think u might become a really good politician if u wanted too bro!!
If you won't listen to something and just hear it, anything you hear are just words that mean nothing. Next time, listen to
You seem to have poked a nerve with this one, lol! Why are we all pretending we play through good single player games once and then "move on"? And then turn around and complain about the state of the gaming industry, lol. In my opinion, something is wrong if any high profile game is 70% off less than 2 years after release.
Many of my favorite games are single player games, and I've played many of them dozens of times. A game doesn't have to be live service to have staying power.
Except that I didn't say anything about being a live service. Witcher, Skyrim, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, none are live service games but all got support and updates after release.
And it's not about "moving on", it's about taking care of the product and people who enjoy them
@@Nyxson I agree with you. I was referring to some of the common arguments I'm seeing in this comment section. Others are using the "moving on" terminology. They're acting like a good single player game is really only good for one playthrough. My argument is that if you feel that replaying a single player game would give you the same exact experience as the first time (and it's not an experience you're keen to repeat), that's a problem with the game.
@@CarterElkinsthat's pretty obvious when the game is very linear. For example you can only play God Of War a few times before it gets stale since the gameplay is one dimensional unlike something like BG3
game was ok!? it was raved about post release, its not played much anymore because EVERYONE played it and finished it. its entire playerbase finished the game, it won, congratulations.
Raved?! By whom?!
@Nyxson it got nominated honourable mentioned or won 21 awards including best game of the year. And set the gaming industry on fire. It holds a Guinness world record for most watched game of all time. DESPITE its controversy it unanimously holds 8.0 or higher on every review site that matters. And the only reason it wasn't higher is because of the huge cancel campaign that tried to swamp it because of JKs involvement.
So... that's by whom. Lol
Took me like 5mins to google
@baobhan9094 did you even play it?! 😂 Also, it wasn't nominated for GOTY. And awards... you don't want to know how awards actually work
Hi. Why my antivirus is showing info about "IDP.Generic" virus????? It's original game from steam. I can't play this game because av is deleting the file. I scanned my drive and nothing was found
Its a single player game with no dlc? What are you expecting.
What a stupid take on a SP RPG.
it is an RPG, u play the story u move on, what are u yapping about ?
See pinned comment ❤
@@Nyxson your pinned comment borders in retardation man, you took three of the biggest openworld games, one of which flopped like a dead fish till it found water, and games that are years old and only active because of modders and their open world environemnt, none is the case for this great game, you are not just yapping, you do not understand gaming
Bugg fixes are good, in fact... no game should have launch with buggs, but is okey unless the game is actually unplayable. So yeah, thats the reason why we need updates, to fix the buggs that the developers didnt notice at the time but are reported by players once the game launches.
But what is that about people needing/wanting extra content? seriously?
There is a really big problem on the way new and younger players are consuming games (and media in general tbh). When I bought a game I dont expect it to have new content in the future, the same way I dont expect the author of a book to enter my house and continue writting the book I left on my night stand.
I dont even play online games, even more if they are competitive player vs player. I just want a good game that has a start and a finish, and the games should be 100% complete when they launch.
Sir pls make a video on battlefield 2042 I really want to know whether I should buy it on steam sale or not cause it’s on dirt cheap price
Will do
If this is your first battlefield then for $5 you can't beat it, However, if you're a long time battlefield player expecting it to live up to the standards of Battlefield 3 or 4 then you will be disappointed.
I just wish listed this game waiting for a good sale. I like a single player game so good that it doesn’t need any more work. Thanks for highlighting this game and appreciate it’s not constantly getting new crap.
Wow I'm surprised you don't have hundreds of thousands of subs! 😮This was so well done and accurate lol 👏 👏 👏
Developers have no passion they got paid and unfortunately thats all they wanted, still alot of potential here though
It's a little disappointing that the game doesn't have moral system... Hogwarts Legacy is just GTA V with magic and flyring brooms
How can a Singleplayer game be dead?😅
This is a very odd video lol. I would understand if this had been some sort of live service game but I think this is a natural life cycle for a single player game. It's literally one of the best selling games of all time.
See pinned comment ❤
Well they ARE working on a sequel.
Its a single player story driven game. Clown yapping for no reason 😂
See pinned comment ❤
the developers abandoned it they should get off their lazy asses and make dlc for it
awesome video! can't wait for the DLC!
videos like this are dumb. Its a single player game. It's not call of duty lol
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Well... Its not MMO ao what did you expected
11k-20k people playing daily and you're saying it's dead 🤡
Funny how you haven't watched the video... 🤡
@@Nyxson I watched like 7 mins but you we're just repeating yourself saying that no one streams it or makes content off of it and therefore its dead. Boohoo its a singleplayer game with tons of daily players. Its not dead, period.
@ItsKevin183 dude... you watched for 7 minutes?! It's a 5 minute video 😂😂😂😂 You can't even lie right 😂😂😂
@@Nyxson You were repeating yourself in the video so it felt much longer
@ItsKevin183 come on dude. Are we still playing this game? 😁
Thibg is ppl move on after they beat, get bored etc. when was the last time you played a 2 yr game. Or more uh point taken. Also Game is on sale last week trying to get more ppl. If this new content update comes out maybe ppl will pock it up again who knows. I fan many games which had updates urs later and had under 100 play again uh but sold millions day one
Game just got update & it's have been rumors for Director's Cut edition with 10-15 hours extra content. Besides that, this game is a single player. Just a click bait title of this video is so pure option to make your profile on RUclips go up. Sorry but I will never watch a think from you buddy.
What?! That's literally what I said in the video and how the HELL any of what I said was clickbait?!
Nice
Cyberpunk boring. I like Hogwarts legacy we just bought gaming notebook with friends for that. Eveb just me is Potterhead.
