I skated a few times at a rink in Nashua, NH when I lived there back in the mid 90's. I just stated back skating in Seabrook, MD. Got my new skates today, the Riddell Angel III's, so this maintenance video is definitely going to help. My only question is boot maintenance for the leather. I really like the feel of those Moxi/brush suede rentals, so I hope I can get my boots soft & comfortable like them. Thanks guys!
just thought i would say that if you don't know if there are wheel spacer between the bearing you should check before tightening a wheel right up till there is no play you may find that there isn't a lot of turn in your spanner/wrench between the wheel feeling 'loose' and the bearing being 'pinched'... you could either find wheel spacers to go between the bearing or you could just go to where it starts to 'pinch' the bearing and back it off a quarter turn usually works. i would also add that play in a cheap or old bearing may give the impression of the wheel being loose when in fact it is often the very cheap pressed bearings you find in kids skates...or should i say toys?... anyway.. remember to measure axles before buying bearings if you don't know as some skates from Europe like Roll Line or atlas are 7mm axles. Most cheaper skates from the Eu have 8mm axles and the US will be working in inches rather than mm so speak to someone who knows about your skates if you don't, the supplier or whatever. sorry for the going on, i thought that there were a few things from a UK perspective were missing but a good helpful video all the same... one last thing... i often find wheels on skates from china come over tightened from the factory and need taking back a quarter turn or more!
I have found the key to wheel cleaning. No need to take them off the skate, let alone pull out the bearings. The stuff is called "Fast Orange"...originally intended as a hand cleaner for those in the automotive industry and factories. Get the bottle WITHOUT the pumice in it. Squirt a little on - seriously, a single "drop" - then used your finger to rub it all over the wheel. Wait about 30 - 45 seconds (a bit longer if it's been a while since you've cleaned your wheels) and it wipes off, rink gunk and all. So easy, so quick...it takes me much less time to clean my family's wheels after a session (there are 7 of us, so the soaking method can take forever)...I just rub it on each wheel on each pair of skates, go down the line (leaving it on much longer than really needed), then start wiping them down. The whole process still only takes me about 5 minutes - like I said, with SEVEN pairs of skates - it takes that long just to get the wheels off of a pair of skates, not to mention 6 other pairs! Fast Orange is available at auto shops, most "tool" shops, bigger home improvement stores, and it's also on Amazon. It comes in a gallon bottle and will last pretty much a lifetime. I got my first bottle in 2005, had it for only 2 years, let someone borrow it, never saw that again, so ordered another in 2007...still have that bottle almost 15 years later now, and it feels like I didn't use any of it yet! (Note: They do sell smaller bottles, I just figured with 7 skaters, we'd need more than the average person. Guess I was wrong! LOL) Bright side, the gallon-sized bottle would be perfect for a rink to have on hand!
The music is killing me! Also, I’m sure the majority of users do not have a bearing press, how about showing us how to remove them without buying a fancy gadget?
man everyone is hating on the music lol. you can use a flat head screw driver to take it out. Riedell also makes a great bearing puller/press tool that isn't that pricey. www.roller.riedellskates.com/catalog/tools-and-accessories/skate-tools/102309
Don't know about "fanvy", but there are much cheaper bearing pullers (and presses) that aren't all that expensive. I think I paid $15 for my puller and $5 for my press (a simple 2-piece gadget)...just wish I could find that exact style of puller again, but it seems to have disappeared as skate parts come and go....not that I couldn't use a different one, but I loved the one I had.
Tighten trucks up all the way. Then skate. Then turn trucks 1 turn top truck and bottom truck on both skates. Then see if it gets better. Keep doing that until you like the feel. Need 9/16th socket.
Mohamed Albert hi do you mean the bearing? yes, you need to take out the bearing. i don't recommend using a screwdriver as it may damage the bearing, but if it's all you have it will work. let me know if you have any other questions
HI, we aren't saying have the wheels tight. The easiest way to tell beginners is you want to tighten the wheels up all the way and then turn a quarter back to loosen. Most newbies have the wheels way too loose and it's dangerous. The bearings are what gets the wheel moving properly, not loosening the wheel too much. If you have any wobble on the bearing to the wheel it creates a dangerous situation. Bearings are the most important component when it comes to good spinning wheels.
Yes, next video will have lower music. And yes too tight is a possibility as we mention as well. We set the skates up first for safety purposes and then you can adjust as necessary. Too tight is safer to start with than too loose. Too loose is a recipe for disaster

Thanks for the info Matt! You definitely make some great points. Interesting to hear things about the differences in the UK.
How much should a wheel SPIN on a BRAND NEW pair of skates?
Mine feel "tight" - they don't even spin 1 revolution when I spin them by hand.
definitely depends on the bearing, but more than 1 turn for sure!

My skates were the opposite. Everything was tight. Very tight. And every time I skate, my trucks tighten back up on their own 🤷🏽♀️
They can't get tighter while you skate.
Where has this place been all my life? You should a post a link on the details of this Roller Kingdom. Never heard of this business before.

How to fix a skste that is not going strainght when you push it across the floor or try to skate in it..The right skate bears to the left..????.
Tighten trucks up all the way. Then skate. Then turn trucks 1 turn top truck and bottom truck on both skates. Then see if it gets better. Keep doing that until you like the feel. Need 9/16th socket.

Email pictures to rollerkingdom2@gmail.com. i can try to help
Can someone tell me why my right skate keeps going inward (this is a serious question please help)
Your trucks are probably too tight. Here is a good video specifically on trucks vimeo.com/11976270
Every other maintenance video I've watched has said to not have the wheels tight but a bit loose and able to spin. Why do you say the opposite?

music is too loud! And my skates came with the trucks and wheels that were TOO TIGHT, not TOO LOOSE

Hey man,,, turn down the music. Very distracting. I didn't finish watching it..
I'm actually trying to figure out how to do that now
The music totally detracted from what you were trying to say.
