Did you enjoy this video? Was it helpful at all? What other kind of other skate experiments should we do next?
If you all haven’t already, different kinds of wheels? Indoor, outdoor, hybrid? Preferences for different surfaces? Thank you for these videos! ❣️
@@ThaMmria yes! Those videos are actually on their way! Please subscribe if you haven’t already to make sure that you don’t miss them!
I would love to see a bushings experiment! I honestly think they get ignored most of the time but changing them from soft to medium and to hard made a huge difference for me.
@@iracgrgic noted!
Types of plates used in the various skating disciplines and why. I.E. street, derby and dance etc.
This episode was educational and enjoyable. Thanks.
I recently loosened my trucks and all of a sudden I can skate a little better.
Same
Do you loosen the back and the front or just the front?
I loosened both in equal increments until I could turn by leaning. ( my feet next to each other, leaning left, then leaning right, turning enough to go around an obstacle)
😲😍okaaay. 👍👏👏👏👏Im learning everyday something new😁
Same!
I just loosened my trucks yesterday, all 4 of them! And oh my gosh! I seemed to have unlocked a new level of skating comfort that I never knew existed! Of course took me a few minutes to even get a proper balance on them. But once I got the hang of it, I literally felt like I could do everything!!
I really appreciate y'all showing so many different styles and opinions! As a newer skater it can sometimes be hard to hear so many folks saying "this is the way" when that just doesn't feel comfortable to you. It's reassuring to see other people preferring tight trucks and even just encouraging experimentation
I've been skating for 7 years and I never knew it was my trucks that were the problem lmao now I can turn a lot smoother
7 years and the mystery is solved!!!!! 💕
I’m such a noob I was wondering why I couldn’t turn right . Lol didn’t even know this was a thing
Happens! I learnt about trucks only after 20 days into skating lol
@@sinharakshit I bothered to adjust my trucks after 80 days of skating💀
@@lululelouch3814 Good job 👏 better late than never you know! ☺️
Right I knew something was wrong ,definitely will loosen
Beginner skater here (skating for 6 months). I like keeping my trucks a bit loose because I'm focusing on body posture and weight distribution. I think it's worth playing with the truck adjustment on the areas I feel I've mastered.
I wish people talked about this more in derby. I was skating with extremely tight trucks for WAY too long until someone else took a look at them and loosened them up. I didn't even realize how much it was impairing me until it was fixed. That, and having really cheap skates at the time (lol... cheap skate). I was really working hard just to skate forward. When I tried doing crossovers, my skates would literally fight against the curve, and go in the OPPOSITE direction. Once they were loosened I didn't feel like I was fighting so hard to get the movement I was after.
when they all tightened their trucks and Estro went, "Feels good to me!" my heart exploded. They're so cuteeeeee
❤️
"Alright well that was fun, experimental and a little sketchy..." They just described my entire skating career lol
I learned the basics of skating on very tight trucks (thank you Estro and Deborah from the Dirty School of Skate) and as foul weather approached tried a few days on looser trucks SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME - I think I feel similar to Estro since I learned all my basics and balance on tight trucks I heaved my body and focus all into the balls of my feet (my thighs b u r n e d) and found my control and balance there so when the trucks were loosened I felt out of control and wobbly, they did move smoother but I couldn't control the movement. ALTHOUGH that was the experience just straight skating (on pretty bumpy outdoor pavement) my biggest struggle first season on skates was with my dance moves and making them fluid so as soon as every parking lot is NOT covered in snow I'll leave my trucks a little loose and experiment. Totally a confidence boost to watch this video, my disco rollerskating dad seemed very against my tight truck ways but when you know, you know!
Got the tip to loosen my trucks from a more experienced skater where I was practicing, did just a quarter turn on all of them, and suddenly I could bubble with ease and smoothly turn by leaning. That feeling I got the first time I picked up speed and glided round the corner hooked me for good.
I’ve loved watching evelyns skate evolution!!! She’s come so far!!! 😍
How tight an individual's trucks are depends on the hardness of the bushings, the weight of the individual, & the unique way they hold their weight. It's gonna be different for everybody. If you feel as if you can't turn even with loosened trucks, consider softer bushings & vice versa(if you can"t tighten your trucks enough bc they are just 'too turny' even when fully tightened, consider harder bushings). just my 2 cents ahaha
Solid input!
Ty for saying this. Lot of people do not factor in weight
I had NO IDEA Estro Jen went by they/them! Oh well, the more you know
Same!!
I really think EstroThem would be a fucking badass nickname. It might be derogatroy. I'm gay but I'm still learning. Either way, more power to them! They're one of my biggest skating idols... and I'm an inliner!! 😂😂 love it
Idek why they said what they go by anyways😂😂
@@pattmahiney It wouldn't be derogatory..It just wouldn't make sense. EstroJen is a play on the hormone estrogen.
@@EndlessNameless. yeah it really only works for people who know them lol figures
I'm definitely going to try loosening my trucks. I got a new set and haven't skated on quads ever since I was a little kid so my brain is still tuned for inline.
Mine, too. I just got some Lollys, and it's been 10 years since I've skated - even on blades. But I kept trying to T stop like you would on ice skates or blades, and my wheels bounced. It was weird.
Same here !
In addition to loose/tight trucks, the cushion softness can change a lot too. My best setting is : slighlty loose trucks with extra soft cushion 72A. It varies depending the style of skating and preferences, but if your are light weight, soft cushions are going to be a life changer
Omg yes!! I just got my new skates and i loosened them a tiny bit and they felt SUPER loose! Idk what durometer the cushions are but the wheels are stick 78 the softest I’ve ever skated on and all of that going on was new to me so noted adjust trucks for those wheels. I am used to skating on an 85 slightly loose front and more tight in back. Who knew?! Lol
Agreed, as a heavier skater harder cushions allow me to have my trucks more loose. It def varies by personal preference and even body type.
What is a cushion softness? my new beach bunny moxi wheel says 78A?
OMG!
Thank you so much for uploading this!!
Here’s a story time of yesterday: some backstory I ordered my Moxi beach bunny’s and they came last Wednesday, prior to that I loosened my trucks after watching Rebels video on what to do after getting skates and I went skating around the neighborhood and I felt like I was dragging behind my left foot but I just assumed it was the wind but NO, after five minutes the whole back truck came apart and the pieces fell on the sidewalk and all what was left was my front two wheels attached and the bare truck sticking through my boot without wheels 😬 I had to call my mom to come pick me up by the sidewalk cause there was no way! I was going to walk home with a bare wheeled boot. Note to self: Try to keep skate tool with you at all times, second, trust your gut BEACUSE I started to make noises and I assumed it was the boot, and third, DONT LOOSEN TOO MUCH AND TEST IT OUT!!!
ty for your time and reading this.
That happens twice with me luckily it was during the day but I got so traumatised that the idea of loose trucks scares me to the max
I have mine suuuuper tight. It feels like I can get more power pumping into tricks than I can with looser trucks. I also feel much more secure skating backwards with tight trucks, I don't want them squirreling around underneath me!!
I’m not sure what I like yet. I grew up skating and just had any old skates. There was a skating scene. But not all these amazing options that there are today. I asked for skates for Christmas and I got them. I haven’t skated since about 25 years old. I’m now 47. It’s so crazy to me that I’m learning all over again and so much has changed in the skate world. I watch videos and it terrifies me. I keep telling myself not to freak myself out... that I still know how to skate somewhere inside me.
You got this!
You just Gave me more Hope at 41. When I was younger, it was like the red carpet was rolled out for me because I was good then. Then I had kids, and for the last 17 year’s they’ve been pulled out twice. The last time my feet hurt so bad, and I ended up to show off and slammed into a wall and immediately left out of embarrassment lol. I hope I can find my grove as this was the best therapy growing up.
@@moxiskates Thank you.
@@BeastFromTheEast79 Isn’t the weirdest thing?! All those years of skating 20+ years and now having to learn again. I think watching the videos is sorta... crippling me. They put a fear in me that I never had skating ever back in the day. I just keep telling myself that I still know... it’s still there. With that said... I haven’t even begun my new skating journey yet. I’m saving up for pads. I promised myself that I wouldn’t even go skate at all till I have all my protective gear. When were younger we don’t have a care in the world. It’s like we’re untouchable and capable of anything. Well... 47 year body ain’t going to deal with a fall like it used to. I’d be so mad at myself if I break a leg or a hip. At this age I’d never heal and be the same again. I’ve skated in my kitchen just to get used to the feel of skated again. But for the most part the skates are sitting in the box just waiting for me to get the gear. It’s about another $150 for gear. So not sure when it will happen. I’m thinking one thing at a time. But I’m still sorta researching pads to figure out which ones I actually want. Which has been a whole other thing. I hope you doing great and having fun! Would love to hear an update if you get a chance 🥰 Sending you all the good vibes on your “re-skating” experience 👍👍
same here..
Best RUclips video on adjusting trucks and the outcome of loose vs tight trucks. So many other channels just show people adjusting it and that's that 😑😅🤦♀️ This one allows us to make informed decisions from real information and feedback. Thanks guys!!
New skater (at 51). I used to live on skates when I was a kid and now I’m re-learning how to skate. Will definitely try loosening my trucks slightly and seeing how it feels. Btw love all of your channel’s videos.
This was great. When I started roller derby 10 or so years ago... so many people would say " this is the only set up that works"... I used to struggle with trusting my own preferences ( at first)... this is a fantastic video that shows how even though skating helps connect us to a community, it's also a very individual journey. I personally like mine on the looser side. I feel like my brain is more connected to my skates, like I think about what I want to do and I can do it.
When I first started skating, I learned after watching various videos that having them slightly loose will provide a more fluid skating experience and give you more control of your movements. So I think it’s time to step out of my comfort zone and see what else works!
Excellent advice , well explained .I love loose trucks
This video is SO perfectly timed, has the perfect info and so glad you posted it! Got my rainbow riders and knew I wanted the trucks loser but not sure how much!! Thank youuu
So helpful!! Beginner here, I just loosened my trucks and now I can do bubbles!! 🎉🎉
That is so awesome!! :)
Amazing timing ladies thanks so so much! I recently changed (thanks Evelyn) my cushions to softer ones on my Lolly’s then, loosened my trucks for the first time as mine had always been tight, I too love the stability and total body control instead like Estro. Since the slight change, weaving along and just cruising about outdoors moving around objects, etc has become a whole new skate! I will play around with my trucks a lot more to keep getting a feel of what changes each bolt turn lol.....now that I also know clearly, that I can all actually being about personal preference. I am so happy for this advice ladies you’re all gems! 🌸💕
After 35 years I am “learning to skate again”. I was a master on the low cut racing boot with wider set wheels and find the tall quad and high boot a whole
New world. I think I’ll loosen the trucks and see if that gets me back to my adolescent days of feeling more in control of the wheels. I loosened the wheels some, but I think this may be what gives me what I’m looking for.
My friend and I are about to be brand, brand new skaters and i knew nothing about trucks. I've never owned skates and I'm so excited! And she's doing all the research lol she sent me this but I'll be subscribing. The more preparation the better! We're already discussion adjusting trucks now
Ayyyyye I think I am going to try loosening my trucks and see if dancing is easier!
This is so good to know. It's nice to see everyone's different preferences and as an "old" new skater I don't quite know which is better for me yet. Also I got my skates kind of late and the weather got cold and snowy so I haven't quite had the chance to break them in properly. Thank you for this video!
I was looking for this video, thank you so much!!
These experimental videos are awesome and such a great idea!
Keep them coming, please!
Thank you for this!!. Also wanted to say the camera work was fantastic!!
Thank you so much for this video! Exactly what I’ve been looking for! Very well done 😘
I was just looking for a video like this! Thanks Estro/Michelle 💕
Thank you thank you for this video!!! I'm a pretty decent indoor skater and just got new skates for outdoor and CANNOT skate in them!! Kiana really nailed the way that I feel in them. Looking forward to loosening the trucks and hopefully it will help! You all rock!
I just got skates and before I ice skated a lot and now I keep loosening my truck because with ice skating you have a much wider range of motion since it's just a single blade. Love this!
I love this group omg 😆💖
i love tight trucks! loose trucks make me wobble a lot i barley do anything and suddenly im turning! i also love estrogen's hair, stunning! 😁
This was incredibly helpful, thank you! Really looking forward to trying out loose trucks when my first pair of skates come in
You are all so amazing and confident on wheels! Will deffo try loosening after this video, Thank you tons. Big love from the UK
Thank you for this video! This was really informative and I enjoyed every persons point of view and thought. I will be loosening my trucks a bit more after this video!
Ha Ha haa! I just got my first pair of Moxi's. The Jungles. Thunderstorming tonight in Manhattan so am literally in bed with the skates trying to adjust the super tight trucks : ) I think that I am only making them tighter...!! Should have gotten the Y tool cuz the little claw is harder to use on the main nuts. Works well for the wheels, though. Love the skates.
I just got my beach bunnies yesterday and tried them out, I’ve already loosened the wheels in order for them to roll steady. Today, I was thinking to myself it was kind of hard for me to turn yesterday, so I figured maybe loosening my trucks would help as a beginner. I didn’t loosen them too much but I loosened them enough to where I feel whenever I go to make a turn my skates move with me. So grateful for videos like this! ♥️
Thanks! I'm new to skating...well I haven't skated in forever 15+ years?
Am excited to try loosening my trucks! This was super helpful!
Y'all are awesome!😍💕
Loved the video. Thanks!
Wait... wait... Evelyn just said “I’m a beginner”. 😧🤯😅 I beg to differ. 😄
Anyway, I (an actual newb) had a fun time watching this video. I’ll try this out next time I’m skating. Cheers!
This was such a helpful and fun way to show the difference thank you!!!
Such an amazing format you bunch filmed here! I love it. So much support without even being around with you. Thank you very much for your work! 🌈😍
Thank you! You are so welcome!
Hi! Deanna here (she/her) - I really enjoyed this video. I’m a pretty new-ish skater even though I’ve been in and around derby for 9 years. I broke and that scared me away. But I’ve never heard the “truck talk” articulated so well. Thank you!
I just wanted to say. I love all of your Roller Skating videos. They helped a lot when I started skating again. Thank you!!
Happy to hear that! :)
I love this video! Very informative.
I love u guys so much omg your energy is so amazing
Thank you for this video!
I always have my trucks pretty loose because I like the way the skates react to my movements that way (I'm a beginner and I mainly cruise around and try to dance). I really loved Dita's perspective, I'm gonna try tightening my trucks and see if I can spin better. Thanks for the content, love you all ❤
Finished my 3rd day of skating today and it's safe to say that I prefer pretty loose trucks, when they were tight i felt like I really had to force my body to be able to turn the skates/turn around, etc. maybe bc i'm still new idk, but also bc i'm small and don't weigh much that looser trucks make it easier for me to turn and feel comfortable manouvering my skates, but as i get more used to skating i will play around to see what i really prefer, but this video was definitely helpful!
As a newbie skater w/brand new skates, I really needed this video. My shins were killing me after my 1st go so I related to the last testimony & realize I just need to try a few different ways. I thought something was wrong with my skates. This was so helpful!!!
You got this! It takes time to build muscle memory, but be patient with your self and you'll be rolling with ease in no time! :)
Fantastic - thanks so much! I wasn't sure that you could loosen more than a turn or two an I really felt like I wanted to loosen more so I could feel more edge. this vid was really helpful thanks!
I just bought my 4&9 yr old skates thank you for this video...
Super helpful video! I’m a beginner and I just recently loosened my front trucks a bit. For me, it’s a lot easier to skate especially when doing certain transitions. I am going to try loosening my back trucks a bit to see if that’s even better for me.
Plz let us know how that turned out for you
This video made my skates make sense to me. Because my trucks are super tight, and I feel like a toddler trying to walk when they're like that and I'm a pretty good skater! Sooo definitely going to loosen my trucks.
I’m new to roller skating so I never knew the difference between tight or loose trucks. I’m going to try both to see which one I prefer. Thank you for this informative video. I just subscribed to your RUclips channel to get more tips.
THIS IS THE CUTEST VIDEO.
Team Loose Trucks for sureee
I love that there are different opinions. Thank you
its all preference :)
I started to skate for the first time in May and didn’t know anything about trucks until about august! Once I did, I loosened them slightly only about two rotations each but my skating improved immediately, I felt like I could change the direction I was going a lot better. I’ve been too scared to loosen them more though 🤣 maybe I should try to see how it goes!
Very helpful. Thanks
Thank you so much!!! I just got my moxi beach bunny 2 days ago and it’s my first time ever trying roller skating. I thought there was something wrong with me because I couldn’t figure out how to turn. I know how to rollerblade and ice skate as well as snowboard and ski and assumed it would be similar in that you lean with your body but that was not happening at all. Now I know 😂🤦🏽♀️
This makes so much sense! I'm a brand new skater and have sooo much trouble with movement, control and the muscles in my feet cramping up! Going to try loosening fire the first time the next time I go out.
This was so helpful. I've had my roller derby XR since last June last year pandemic skater ☺️ bit now I need to upgrade I've been looking everywhere and how they look. For sure I'm getting the black leopard print
I’m not new but watched anyways because I ❤️ you !!!! Lol just got to the “what your friends like part”... 😂😂 thanks for the laugh ❣️
This was really helpful loved the little experiment lol. Would love a similar style vid discussing differences between skate boots (derby vs boot cut etc)
I just loosened my trucks a bit today and OMG loose is so much better for me!
I love you girls, you guys rock!
ive been roller skating for 2 years and i never even heard of trucks!! i guess i’ve always just set them in the standard super tight :) helps build those leg muscles!!
This is awesome, thank you! I tested out my first pair of skates at a roller rink yesterday and noticed that I did really well on the turns but slowed waaaay down on the straights because my left skate wanted to get away from me (and I think my wheels need a little more loosening). I checked my skates against my daughter's (the rink's rentals) and saw their trucks are very tight whereas mine were looser on my left than my right.
I bought proper tool to adjust them, and thanks to your video I'm gonna try it both ways at the rink instead of just deciding I want them tight forever, because I really loved the way the loose trucks worked on the turns. :) If I can get them to feel more natural going straight, that would be awesome.
Skating has always made me so happy, but I never picked it up until now. Luckily, the internet says it's good for joint health, which I need. :D
Yay that's awesome! We are glad you found this helpful :)
I go through phases, but currently my trucks are fairly tight because I like the stability it gives me. After watching this though I think I'm going to loosen my front trucks more and see how that feel!
I'm just getting reacquainted with roller skating, and this is my first pair of roller skates that I never have to give back... I am here in Canada waiting for snow to melt and practicing in a wee bachelor apartment. You girls look like rockstars skating the park!
I am putting my own spin of roller skating by incorporating a pole into the mix... I survived breast cancer and my pole practice fell to the wayside. It's been 5 years now, my roller-skates have reignited something in me. I am so thankful for all of your really helpful videos, thank you ladies!
Will there ever be a wider version of the Beach Bunny available? Or the Lollies? I have fat little piggies lol
i love the music thats playing for loose trucks clips
More power to them! And them and them and them! Love it, thanks for sharing. I inline but I'm sure this will be a good way to annoy my quad friends lol knowledge is power 😎😎
Why did Evelyn say "as a beginner"? Girl, you've been doing this for like a year! I've been watching! You are definitely a decent skater.
OMG ESTRO USES THEY/THEM PRONOUNS!!!!!!! THATS SO AMAZING!!!!!!
I was finally able to get the right tool and adjusted my new moxi lollys just now! 🌞
Awesome! Thank you so much for this video!! Which one do you recommend for beginners?
Thank you for this video.
That was extremely helpful I am definitely going to loosen my trucks up a little
I think I might like looser trucks but I’m going to experiment with both to see exactly what I like after seeing this! 💕
Great video ladies! I literally was just asking this question a few days ago And BOOM this appeared! So happy I watched . It’s seems like preference is key so I’ll def will keep this info in mind.
They arent all ladies! :) some of them are non binary friends!
wow! you gals are amazing!
I thought my trucks had to be loose to dance (bc so many skaters say so) but it turned out to be the opposite for me! I tightened up my trucks and I can control my moves so much better!! I guess it's a control thing for me, too. Thank you so much! So helpful.
Amazing video 📹Mine are loose on the front a bit a bit loose at the back. Thanks 😊to u all beautiful ladies and Miguel!
I like mine loose for skatepark :)
I recently did a new build and couldn’t get them as loose as I liked as there wasn’t much room on the king pin. I had a few sessions like with tight trucks and found carving in a bowl so hard! I had to jump instead of carving. In the end I cut my bushings down so I could loosen my trucks and it made me so happy! I think loose trucks also feels better for me when I’m jumping or going on uneven ground to help deal with wobbles.
In contrast... I’ve found when I dance I like them much tighter... luckily I have two pairs of skates so I’m not constantly adjusting :)
Michelle I could just watch you skate all day! 😍
When Evelynn tightened hers, I cringed. She's such trooper lol.
what does trooper mean here?
@@CigdemO279 like "good sport"
i’ve tried skating with tight trucks but felt like i had to control more and really focus on where i wanted to go. i’m going to try loosening my trucks, but i also liked the idea of looser trucks in the front and tighter in the back. might have to try that as well!!
Oh wow this was good to watch.
New to skating and has made me understand truck's more
That's great to hear! Have fun with em :)
This is a great video! You can skate for years and just not understand what tightening and loosening trucks offer in your skating. Loose trucks require very little movements to tell your skate where to go. That takes a lot of time to get use too. The more I loosen my trucks the more I realize I need to keep my ankle and calf strength at its best because I must limit my ankle movements using the strong muscles there. With tight trucks I wont veer left and right as much and will use my torso, hips and, upper legs to do the work of turns and spins and I will not have to focus on my ankle movements as much. When I want to be a more physical skater I will tighten my trucks. Usually I do like loose trucks when any artistic element of skating is involved. Focusing on the finer movements (with my trucks very loose) gets my mind into the moment of setting strong edges with the least of effort for maximum options.
Got my skates a few days ago, I always skated with rental skates beforehand so looking forward to finding out if I am more a tight or loose guy when my tool comes in
This was actually a really great video and very informative. Can do you a similar video about toe stops?
You got it!
