My skates have been sitting in the closet for a year because of a scary fall my first time going outside on them on concrete, but this video is giving me the confidence to try again! I never considered practicing balancing on grass first to get used to moving with the skates on! I should try this.
Bro some
I got mine last year as well, but I got scared and my sister had a fall that dented some furniture which was enough to scare me. A year later (or two), I'm starting to practice with them again since my friend had a birthday party in a roller skating rink.
Best advice I'd say is try indoors, you have things to grab on if you fall and you have nothing on the ground like twigs to unbalance you. You can also start in a small space, it's much easier if you feel safer.
Same I don’t roller skate I roller blade and had been doing it for years but one day a pebble got stuck between my back wheel and brake and I was going too fast and I fell really hard it was the worst fall I ever had of all those years roller blading and I haven’t touched my skate since then but idk I’ve been watching videos and I really miss it.
Update? Did you start skating again? I hope you did :)
First time skating I broke my tailbone and I was so afraid to skate again. I bought some padded skate shorts - they look funny, but they are amazing. Highly recommend! Practicing on grass also helps to find your balance. You got this!
“In order to fall in love with roller skating, you’re gonna have to fall” -¿Mr. E?
👏❤️✨🙌 yes! And the goal isn’t not to fall, but to fall with style 💃💁♀️✨ (aka fall as safely as possible on to the soft parts) *~the art of falling~*🛼✨
@@deannaranger6472 Definitely not the goal but getting comfortable falling is such an underrated skill in skating. The more you can understand how to fall and minimize the chances of getting hurt, the more you can explore new tricks and try new moves on your skates!
When I got my quads - The first tutorials I looked up were "How to fall correctly" lol
@@deannaranger6472 couldn’t have said it better
@@moxiskates indeed!🛼🛼💙
I started skating two days ago but I'm already getting used to balancing on them and now with this video I can roll for a long time and even a little faster! It felt pretty intimidating at first but now I don't even mind the falls anymore, it's fun!
Me too!
I like that he falls and makes mistakes and shows us how to fall properly.
Going skating next month for the first time in a very long time. 61 years old, last time was in the 90s.
It's been a year, how did it go? I hope you're cruising around all over again! I'm 53, haven't been skating in literally 40 years...and just ordered myself a pair of skates. Pray for me, LOL.
(I ordered safety gear too! I don't bounce as well as I used to!)
I will be 56 in December. I LOVED roller skating when I was a kid. For several years I've wanted to to try skating again. I just ordered a pair of skates (with flashy wheels) and I'm really excited but very nervous to try it again. I am glad I found this video because I need some refresher instruction on how to skate. I hope I'm able to do it. There's nothing in the world like that feeling of skating. And even just watching this, I could feel that surge of excitement and exhilaration flooding through me. 🥰
You can do it. Be patient, trust yourself, and don't forget to have FUN! :)
@@moxiskates thank you! I can't wait! 🥰
I'm 40 and like you, I loved skating as a kid. I always wanted my own skates, because the rentals were so hard and the wheels were too loose and just overall difficult to work with. I ended up getting inlines for Christmas when I was about 10 or 11 and found those a bit easier at the time, but I still kept the thought of one day owning my own roller skates in the back of my mind.
That day is finally coming to fruition!!
I get to pick them up in a few weeks!! I'm ridiculously excited!!
I just have to get myself some guards and borrow or buy a helmet!
This how to refresher was really helpful.
How did you go getting back into skating?
@@iamgiatho That's awesome! For several years I have been thinking about skating. But the situation I was in just wasn't a good one, so I didn't. But my situation changed and I continued to think about it. Then finally one day I decided to go for it! But over the past 4+ months, I have really struggled with it. I recently got a new pair of skates (The Moxi Beach Bunny) and I'm hoping I will improve. The skates I had were not the right size and they were not quality skates. So I decided to invest in quality skates that were the proper size to see if it helps. But I am still struggling to skate outdoors. I live in a small town where there aren't any rinks, parking lots, basketball/tennis courts, etc. And my options for decent places to skate are practically non existent. I'm keeping track of my so-called "progress" on my vlog channel, but I am such a beginner still, that I don't have much to show. But I keep trying and wont give up! I hope you have better luck on your skating journey than I'm having! But if you have options for places to skate, you will do great! Best of luck to you! 🥰🛼🛼
I'll admit some of my frustration with roller skates is living out in the country side. There's not a lot of smooth ground to practice on and I'm a little too paranoid to want people to see me falling on my butt in public on my own LOL
Same. The streets in my rinky-dink town are trash and my driveway isn't that big... Gotta make do.
My town had a huge parking lot at our football field/ school and I went there in the off times. Also. If there’s a tennis/basketball/volleyball court at a nearby park they make great practice places. That’s what I’ve been using
I live on a dirt road and have no sidewalks at all
I wish i had 3 hours available for practice everyday 😭😭😭😭
What ever you can! One step at a time❤️
dedication and motivation is key. but if you don’t have time, i recommend recording yourself on a phone and it’ll give you a better idea of how you can improve for the next time you practice
How many hours do you use phone or watch TV? When there is a will there is a way. Break it up if you must 1.5 hour sessions go fast! Don't make excuses for yourself if you wantbto learn it will take practice. Maybe start small and do a daily or every other day challenge. L
Same here. 😢
@@motherearther218 i only watch tv when i eat... and use my phone to watch skates lessons 😂 i libe in a studio so small i have no room to really practice as if i fall, I'm gonna hit something (counter edges) I will try a spot near my bed. I just have to move the carpet... But yeah. Not finding excuse, just too much of a beginner to do that safely in the apartment... But hey, i practiced getting up a couple of time, at least those countertops edges found another purpose
I’ve seen a lot of videos of how to do things right and how to fix problems and what CAN go wrong, so I was honestly skeptical of the “learn to skate in 24 hrs” title with this guy’s vibe. BUT watching him acting so goofy on skates, demonstrating how he’s okay in all those wild scenarios I would never do, makes me feel so much more confident about skating outside! lol something about him not feigning falling but ACTUALLY falling was good for me to see! Sometimes you gotta just go for it. With the weather finally below the 100s, I think I will! (With all my gear 😅)
I was finally able to rollerskate yesterday in my local skating rink! It was my first time and I only availed the 1 hour time to rent a skating shoes. I fell a lot but was able to balance a few falls later. Everyone was so helpful and even gave me a few pointers.
This was me when learning how to swim two years ago at 25. It took me two hours of facing my fear of being fully submerged underwater without my feet touching the ground. It's all mental, once you get passed that fear, you'll get an instant skill perk. I learned how to swim in just two hours and the tricks and techniques will come later! Now it's time for me to learn how to skate! 😊
That bumpy pavement at the ramp is tactile pavement for blind people! (i.e. it allows you to know a change of some sort like stairs, a ramp, or a street is near by feeling)
I liked the energy and fun way of explaining roller skating by this guy. The video is 16 minutes long and it dint feel boring 😊at all.
Loved your clear explanation of the lacing of the skates until going over obstacles. 👏 I went out a couple of times this summer and took a break. But now I'm ready to go back out there to practice again. I wish I had 3 hours to practice every day. 😪 Thank you.
the one skill I truly want to master is learning how to balance on one foot. I want to be able too step off the grass into the concrete confidently. I can’t wait ❤️
You got this!
Same here, I feel like I'll be golden once I get the one-footed-balance thing down. Problem for me is I can barely balance on one foot even when I'm barefoot! 😂
@@cavavena What I’ve been doing is just put one skate on and keep your other foot bare/shoes if you’re outdoors. And practice pushing with the foot with the shoe and keep balance on the one with the skate. You’ll be able to catch yourself if you fall with the foot without the skate. The only problem I have is that when I push, it’s like my leg rolls but my body doesn’t and I just can’t seem to go/ feel like I’m gonna roll backwards
@@BrokennessAndBeauty Great tip with keeping just one skate on, thank you, going to do that! For the problem, I guess make sure your weight is going toward the front of your body and make sure the knee is bent more than you think it should be? (I shouldn't be giving skating advice since I barely know what I'm doing myself 😂 but maybe someone with more experience can chime in here!)
Stand on one leg every morning and evening when you brush your teeth. Your balance will improve in no time!
I'm waiting for my first pair of owned skates (Moxi beach bunny) to arrive and this video was a great refresher! I've only ever skated at rinks using rental skates but always loved it. Few other things make my body feel as free as roller skating. It's a confidence boost just to see how many of these things I figured out independently (bubbles, stepping over obstacles, V or T foot position, getting low, staggering feet, looking up). I need to practice again since I've had a long break from skating but the thing that originally helped me to independently learn crossovers was to practice the one-foot-over-the-other motion just while I was walking around curves and corners, getting the balance and muscle memory down without even having skates on.
i just got skates for cristmas, in fact i just went out and skated for a little cus I watched this video where it showed me how to move and i fell completely lol. it said to use the toe stops as pushers or whatever and i fell like 5 times
I'm using my mom's skates from when she used to roller skate, and after a few years of not picking them up, I forgot a lot of things. This vid helped me catch up! Thanks
Thanks to your video, i finally can move forward. I'm too afraid to fall. Hence, not moving at all for the last 30 minutes. Then i watch your video. With very clear explanation and some humour too. I now can now move a little. Still not speeding. But I'm getting there
That's what i'm talking about!!! Thats so rad.
I'm going to put my skates on, bubble wrap on my rear, and all the safety gear. I'm 56 years old. I'm ready to fall, lol. I'll practice in my house wearing them 2 hours a day. Thank you for your video, it inspired me to fall, just kidding, it brought back the desire to skate again. ❤
I feel clickbaited I thought Ivy was going to be in this video😝, still great vid great tips❤️
Thank you for being someone who taught themselves and telling us the basics, including the most common mistakes. The cannonball approach to falling = brilliant
Thank you Moxi, this is really helpful! More like this please 🙏
I'm 46 and I'm learning to skate. I have falles down many times so I decided to learn how to fall down (the technic) and then the first steps and how to stop. It's been pretty hard to learn but I'm not give UP.
I am new to skating and just purchased Lolly skates because I'm older and want to set myself up for success! I have been quite enjoying your YT content, patiently waiting for my Lolly's. I plan on doing mainly street skating though Berkeley sidewalks and streets are notoriously bad, so have been watching all you content on street skating. So enjoyable. Thank you for the great content.
This is was super funny, informative and really excited for the light up wheels!

Can you guys make a video on how to skate staggered and where you should put your weight? A vid on how to skate staggered both in the park and when trail skating for beginners.
Yessss!
We definitely should! It’s on the list :)
✅✅
Put the weight into the leg that’s forward
Lean into the step /stride
With a bent knee and a light extension of the back leg
@Cheyenne Archambeault thank you so much! This whole time I've been putting my weight onto my back leg😅😅
I haven’t roller skated in years and plan on going to a local skating rink. These videos will help me get back into it again.
Im 80 and decided to go back to it ill update
omg i love him!! I just got myself some beach bunnies without watching any tutorials or reviews... now i'm stoked to try them tmrw with the help of your safety tips! thanks for making a fun and entertaining how-to :)
Today, I went to a roller skating rink near my city for a field trip! I tried going slowly at first but got the hang of it when I asked my friends and teachers how they did it. I fell multiple times but I didn't give up because it was actually fun. I learned all of it in like 4 hours and I learned that I really like roller skating! My parents are thinking about putting me into a group so I could practice.

This helped so much! I'm going skating in 2 weeks so I really needed to practice and I saw this video, watched it and I can finally skate :D
Such a good funny helpful and entertaining video!!! Thank you! So excited to start
TYSM im. Getting skates for Christmas And I LOVED THIS TUTORIAL!!!
I’ve finally bought my roller skates from Amazon and it’s my first time roller skating wish me luck guys!
How are you getting on with the skating?
I just bought a pair, they should get here Tuesday. I think I’ll head to a local park after I get them and try it in the grass first
The cheese grantors are actually for the blind and visually impaired so they know that either they’re stepping into a road way or in this case. There were obstacles such as stairs and hand rails and a ramp
Aww this is so wholesome. Thank you for all the tips!!
That sock tip was new to me, and brilliant. Thank you.
The rest of the video is a bit rushed and not particularly detailed enough to be helpful for true beginners.
Man amazing tips thank you alot!!
I just got roller skates today :) I have no experience... I have no gear (because I couldn't afford it 😋) and I fall ALOT. But I'm okay!
Are you better at rollerskating now?
1 minute in and I already LOVE this video!
I lovveeee his vibes!!
Them feel good vibes :)
@@msericaplease 😊🥰
This is the first vid I watched of you and you soooo funyyy I’m subbed😁😁😁
so funny as well as informative !! thank you ❤
I think this is awesome but it's not for everyone to skate in 24 hrs. It takes a lot of hours and hard work. Also, the fair of falling is real for a lot of us, just like for me 🤭 I have been skating for 3 months now but i don't have time enough so i need more practise. Also fear is still there. I wear all the gear and the helmet!! I have the moxy panthers and adore them ❤️❤️
So good !! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌well done , Great video !!
This video was so cool!!! I've NEVER skated before, and will be giving it a try soon. I must admit, I am nervous, however, this does look like so much fun!
You are so funny❤ I love you performance and teaching style. Thanks!
This was such a good video ❤
Thank you so much for making this video cause I'm going to maybe start roller skating so thank you
Ive been practicing jumping and using my toe stops, but I’ve realized I only ever use one side so now one toe stop looks like a thin pancake 🥞 and the other one is like 80%.
I’ve been doubling the 2nd loop on the laces so the laces never come undone! Skating has also improved my shoe tying abilities.
That happened to me too. But now you know which is your dominant stopping foot, and if i were you, i’d switch the toe stops so that the main foot has more rubber, and order a new set of toe stops so that you can practice with the other foot when you get them in
I've been practicing for 2 days and still can't stand in my roller skates. It's so sad :'(
@@twilight143 you got this, do the penguin walk! Hold on to a wall! Practice bubbles 🫧 on a basketball court!!!
@@PinkPulpito ty I'll try but can you tell me how long it took you to learn roller skating. Like actually being able to skate.
@@twilight143 if you skate every day it could be 2 weeks to a month. if its once per week it may take 3 months. i skated as a kid in roller hockey so by the end of the first month i was skating fairly well. Ive been skating everyday and changed out my wheels to the moxi fundae wheels which allows for T stops while still being very grippy.
within 2-3 days you should be atleast
rolling around though
I just received my new skates but oh my god I love those light up wheels! 💖💖💖
This is so fun to watch and vsdy encouraging. Im planning on buying my own skates soon and i love the quote "to fall in love with skating youre gonna have to fall" aw thats nice :]
I love this guy's energy XD
Thanks for the teaching, you are so amazing 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This vid helped me so much I skate eastern and thank You So much
Man, this was actually helpful.
All of this reminded me of stuff I learned through the physics of my own body as a kid; coz back in the 80s, parents were just "yeah ok happy birthday, now go outside" and we had to teach ourselves lol.
But the socks and the laces were good tips to learn!
It'll be awhile before I can save up for my first adult pair, but... yeah. 💖
i got roller skates yesterday, i tried them out today with my friend (who has been roller skating for a month) and i couldn’t leave the polls at my school. i need this. hopefully i can learn!
I love skating..I am lucky to be able to skate by the beach as I live Minster UK. But love to be able to roller skate inside at kent roller disco. The floor is so smooth lol. practice is key and at 51I wear the gear everytime. thanks for the lace tip.
Really good beginner tips...thx so much

So glad it helped you out! 💙💙
I remember my first time I went outside with skates I fell off the sidewalk onto the road, and nearly got run over by a cement truck. That was a extremely terrifying encounter considering that was my first time. That caused me to throw my skates in my garage and abandon skating for 4 months. But then when more and more skating videos and shorts started to pop up on my fy, I started to skate more and this video really helped me a lot!!
We are so happy that you got back up and tried again! Once you get going, it's hard to stop!!
🎉 great video to refresh from the 80s
Very fun video, thanks for the content
This was the most informative video I’ve seen so far as a new skater.

the starting in the grass is actually really genius and is how i learned how to ride a bike!!
Nice video - well done!
I haven't wore safety gear for anything since I was 4. I'm just starting out and did a goof and bought advanced deformation walking shoe skates. (Shows with pop out skates. Kinda like the 90s and early 2000s wheelies)
Yeah true when i first skated which was like yesterday and i didn't see any vids on skating so i did lose my balance so when i fell i protected myself with my arm but my arm did get injured it didn't get broken thankfully it just hurt a couple of days
Hehehehe. "I'm so cool in muh truckkkkk" great little video of the basics dude! You are super funny!!!!
Thanks so much🤩🍩☕️👊🛼
Thank you for how to learn how to roller skates i have not bought it yet cuz i have to learn but thank you.
I got a pair of skates again in May of 2022, they hurt my feet. I can barely get through 40 minutes let alone 3 hours. But I still skated 3 to 4 times a week until about mid-November. Because that was when we got some funky weather in my area. I hope to start back up again soon. Hopefully with less back pain.
Thanks for teaching me how to roller skate I really appreciate it and my aunt does to it and my self does thank you so much for helping me learn it's my first time learning how to roller skate and I got my new skates with my aunt my aunt bottom at Goodwill and I just wanted to tell you thank you thank you so much bye
Ah! I noticed my area! Long Beach!❤❤ very cool vid!
Yeah I definitely recommend some sort of safety gear. For me, knee pads are a No.1- since when I feel like I cant stop myself unless if I fall down, I'll very much bruise my knees (my legs and knees aren't in good shape right now haha.)
Literally thank-you so much! I love the advice ! And I am a beginner I just learnt today with my friend and yeah have a great day! ❤ by the way watchers! Always have your gear on! Ex : Elbow pads knee pads wrist pads and a helmet especially when your a beginner!
Do i need these in the rink?
my pineapple lollies just arrived a few days ago and this is a great video for me to start with!! time to start with working on my balance 😆
Good coach ❤
im going skating on sunday
it will be my getin shape and get my mental in cheque exercise
Got my 1st ever roller skates today. I'm afraid to fall and yes i have my safety gear too. I'll try my best. Wish me luck 😊
Really enjoyed ur explanation
Glad you liked it!! Hope it helps
I got some Walmart skates for my kiddos for their birthdays last week. I know not the best but they are starters. I'm hoping these tips help them become better skaters. Right now they walk in them or kind of back and forth both feet. They have all the safety gear so I'm hoping teaching them to bend their knees and stagger their feet helps.
I went to the skating rink for the first time in years after learning a little how to skate and I seriously injured my tailbone and wrist from falling. I need to really work on how to fall
The semi-formal attire is killing me :D
Hii. I dont have rollerblades but im gonna get it at my birthday and ty for the tips im gonna try those. if I forget the tips im gonna watch it again but anyways thanks
