The sound of this song is so far ahead of its time-- it couild be released today and no one would know the difference.
True!
Bittersweet. Cindy's voice has never sounded stronger. This song shows the strong love and bond between brother and sister.
I am so grateful for the existence of the B-52s.
Funny, but those were my sentiments expressed on a clip of "Private Idaho." They rotated (in the late '70s/early '80s) in their own orbit and for people like me in the U.S., they offered a sensibility that was more common in British bands. And to think that stations in my area (central Illinois) would play their stuff was kind of miraculous. Plus, it wasn't hip to like them in the early days. So, yes, pioneers we can be thankful for.
oh man, i hear that!
1:51 Ricky as the moon. My Heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, sad
Cindy Wilson - WOW what an absolutly brilliant voice
One of the most underrated, most forgotten songs of all time, no one other than Cindy Wilson could have sung this song like this..
AMEN!!
Amen Amen
She sounds so amazing when she sings this song live....
Agreed! Great production and recording AND they used the incredibly expensive (at the time) Fairlight CMI sampler/synth
to get all the cool sounds!
I actually like this better than the original.
This song was completely ahead of its time when it came out. That house groove and delicious bass riff gives it instant appeal without losing the quirkiness we love this band for.
I think you are probably really right, but I kind of need to go back in time in my foggy brain.
Absolutely correct. I'm surprised more people don't know about this song. I put it on in my car and sing my brains out with Kate and Cindy.
agree
@@monacaravetta only Cindy sings this song.
Susan has that naturally erotic sensuality, she is a true aesthete besides a good singer.
Cindy has the most fantastic voice, totally unique, incredible power and pitch
I can't think of another singer who can match her.😀
She is spectacular both to listen to - and look at!

I've grown to really like this song, but there's a real haunting sadness behind it and this music video knowing about Ricky Wilson dying from AIDS. It kind of has this unspoken sadness behind it I can't place.
Aint It A Shame off the same record is also super sad, one of my favorites. Underrated album in general, lots to love.
Bittersweet, but even bittersweet is rarely so sweet, or so bitter.
LOVED this song as a teenager in high school back in 1986! STILL DO! My favorite B-52'S song of all time!
I remember when "Bouncing off the satellites" came out. Was never a big B-52's fan, but bought it on a lark and after hearing this song, the very first song on the cassette, I fell in love with the B-52's immediately. Simply one of the coolest songs they've ever done......especially when you crank it full blast on your car stereo, driving through the countryside at night.
lol Summer of Love is the very first song. It's 35th birthday is Sept 8 ot this year, ironically one month after the 35th birthday of Transformers the Movie
Dare you to listen to it with headphones and not dance
I love this comment because I as a 17 year old have, say - 41 years later a very similar experience. Never much a fan of the B-52s but found bouncing off the satellites on tape at a garage sale for cheap and picked it up. It’s become a ritual of mine late at night after work to blast this album in my 97’ Ford Taurus - driving through farm fields no less! Loved the b-52’s ever since.
I love this band, they're so open and free, they're a bunch of weirdos and goofballs and not afraid to flaunt it! More power to them!
Infinite Sky well said love your comment peace from the u.k.
They are truly the most sane in the industry!!
Infinite Sky they always seem to have a good time, no stories that ive ever heard where one was fighting with one another, they were all just having fun
I love this, keep being awesome! ^_^
Well said!
If Ricky Wilson had lived on, B-52's would've remained one of the biggest bands in the world. This song is fucking EPIC.
They actually got much bigger in a commercial sense after he died. But they started to slide creatively at the same time.
CW and her iconic voice is something to be had by all having good taste. Love ya Cindy!
Underrated masterpiece. Deserves discussion in highbrow circles if only to wonder just how Cindy hits those highs. Quality x
Ricky Wilson, Cindy's brother, died of AIDS during the recording of this album in 1985.
It affected the band greatly. It was the only album the band didn't promote with a tour.
My daughter was born in 1985 and this was one of my favourite songs, it has to be one of the most under rated songs ever. And I remember the band going through some horrible stuff.
I felt something was off.
They looked somehow preoccupied, their gaze seemed inward.
lurch321 oh wow
AIDS was raging at that time. And it kept getting worse. We lost so many.
"Please remember, wherever you go, there you are."

Is it OK to say that this song is beautiful?
It got me liking the B-52s. 👍🏾👍🏾
One of the reasons it's so good is that it's produced by Tony Mansfield.
Cindys voice blows my mind. I'm in love
Kate Pearson, the 20th century Goddess of Wigs - and the Bees from whom we could dance our way out of any global catastrophe. Bless their hearts, and all hail the loving memory of Ricky W, who gave us those early wonderful, reductive riffs. It's a privilege to share the century with these folks...let's dance!
I’m a perfect world The B-52s would have been inducted years ago into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
agreed, im trying to get out to vegas to see their final tour in 2024
@@jonathanlewis3199 its a great show !
please...the rock and roll hall of fame is a joke!!! so many worthy not in...so many unworthy in...we all know who the best are...i don't need no fucking building to tell me who's great!
Another amazing quirky song by the B-52s. Uncanny. There is no voice like Cindy Wilson's.
rembeadgc there's no other band like the b52s completely original they copied no one!!!
Kate has a great voice too! I think they sound almost identical!
@@dominichetherington2287 they are so American. They help with my anxiety. Thank you Cindy
@@Bigbird108s, what I like about their voices are that they are almost identical to each other, yet unique to the rest of the music world. I haven't heard anybody that remotely sounds like them, so it's interesting that they ended up in the same band together. At the same time, their voices are very different, while still sounding similar. Kate is more of a soprano and is amazing at singing really high, sometimes operatic or falsetto parts, and she does these awesome bird-sounding noises. Cindy is more of an alto, and she's great at singing really low parts. She also has a breathier voice, but also, man, can she belt it out!
@@MagnifiiScentz I feel like Roam is the best example of that. Both women show their power but that Growl of Cindy's hooked me. Love them both though and how the band lets everyone shine. I can't really think of any other band with three solo capable singers that are fine either together or on their own without egos running wild.
Truly one of the most fun rock videos of all time...and a super song! The B-52's are eternal!
Anyone notice Ricky's the sun at 1:53? :'((( ❤️
I did :(
We still love Ricky.
Madeline Elizabeth-Alyosha yup!
Madeline Elizabeth-Alyosha linda homenagem
I think that's the moon?
Cindy had a lot of solos on _Satellites._ "Ain't it shame" is also a great!!
Someone mentioned Fred acting like a weirdo... Kate has his back here!
Dancing like mad and getting a *revelation about toast and freaking out!*
💕💗🌸
Kate is an amazing dancer…so beautiful too!
I absolutely LOVE the B52's because I gravitate towards people, places and things that strive to be different. And they have a wicked sound to them!!!!
Love the kitch, the positive energy, great beats and those girls have insane voices. Cindy's always been my favorite B-52.
Perhaps the best american band from the 80s, love their humour and creativity
This song and video are effing beasts! The video was so rare and hard to find for YEARS! Thank you RHINO for breathing life into this rarity/obscurity/masterpiece!!
Wasn't this on time capsule cd/dvd release❓🪐
i love the b-52s. as someone who’s on the ASD spectrum, i’ve always been an oddball. even if i was not, i am just a weird person. i’ve always loved that out of this world alien space age retro aesthetic, and i believe the b’s really hit the mark with that. i’ve always been very artistic and musical, and it makes me so happy to see there are others like me. i love them! kate and cindy are such talented women, they really encourage me to sing more. i used to hate my weirdness. i hated sticking out. but i think it’s a wonderful thing. the b-52s encourage me to keep being me all these years later. rest in peace ricky
This song rearranged my head the first time i heard it, and made me re-think a lot of things about what I supposedly knew about music. The vocals, the virtuoso guitar playing, the ahead-of-its-time rhythm track, everything about this song is genius!
Produced by Tony Mansfield, total genius. His band was New Musik.
They are all such goobers 😊🤗
I love any video where you can tell the band had a great time making it.
And props to Fred Schneider for opening up to the World he has the super power to make psychic toast.
Just what I needed today to lift my spirits - a fun B's video! It's funnier and more artistic than I remember. The shadow of Kate's head over the cantaloupes is genius!
1:50 Ricky Wilson as the rising sun. Bet they really missed him while filming this one. R.I.P.
B-52s. Die beste Band der Welt.
For those who were not old enough to be out and about in the 80s, Thrift Store shopping was really in fashion throughout the 80s but especially up until about 86. 1960s, 1950s along with 40s and 30s Art Deco Periods were really seen as very stylish when putting together your own personal look. Mix and Match for your own look along with your own artistic Addons!! I knew this kid who liked to wear stuff like 1960s Sports Jackets in funky colors with shiny large silver Safety Pins all over the jacket!! He had a short Bleach Blonde Punk Hairdo and wore Makeup so it looked pretty cool!! Also Flip and Aardvark's Odd Ark on Melrose in Hollywood were the coolest places to shop Thrift and had the best clothes!! All of it was inspired by New Wave Videos like this from the B52s and others.. I would hit the lesser known Thrifts to get some good stuff like 1960s button up Mohair Sweaters until everybody else caught on and they became hard to find.. Good times!!
You sound cool as fuck. And I'm 42, old enough to have caught and hated Love Shack, but too young to have any idea what a phenomenal band these were with Ricky Wilson. Id loved to have been an 80s California kid. The dream.
@@PhaktTheIsolationist we did the future generations justice. We had enough fun for all of y'all!! Lol!!
"Well, Fred, we don't have a part for you in this song, so how about you dress up in a body suit and act like a weirdo?"
"Great!"
+fullervisiondotnet I think he would have just thought of that on his own without being asked, lol!
Fred did very little on this album; he'd practically quit out of grief from the death of Ricky Wilson--who makes a cameo in the moon. IIRC Fred didn't do a lead vocal on it but I haven't heard the album in nearly 30 years. It's such a sad recording probably their "worst" as it is so unfocused and melancholic.
We should enjoy his silence. After this he was the lead singer in too many songs that were lame. They should have stuck with the great voices of the girls.
Fred is fabulous
@@kewphilip1 You speak the truth. Rock Lobster and Private Idaho would have been nothing without Fred's magic.
My favorite song. Cindy is a Goddess. Her voice, wonderful attitude is truly of GOD. I hear heaven in her voice. Love the interview she is making cookies for her kids. Great lady!!! Thank you
How about "Give me back my man"?
What a beautiful song!
This video is conclusive proof that Cindy Wilson is the most perfect specimen of a woman ever to walk the face of the earth.
Some of us have known that for a long time.
Yes she was a Dream of mine for Decades when I first saw them on video while stationed in then West Germany. Really cool song too.
In a perfect world, this should've been a bigger hit than Love Shack.
Love Shack is my least favorite song from them. Silly songs tend to be hits.
I love every B-52's song except "Love Shack". Seen them in concert 52 times, too.
Seems like I read that they didn’t tour in support of this album due to grieving over Ricky’s death. That would explain why this album and song weren’t promoted by the execs in L-lay...
lurch321 catchy tune, and HEAVY MTV ROTATION back in the day is why. I think the 52’s were still a novelty when Girl from Ip came out also.
Absoutley
...what a song !!! iconic B-52s !!! " Bouncing off the satellites " : definetely one of the best albums of the 80s, produced by one of the most underrated producers : Tony Mansfield
The perfect song for 3am vodka and lsd party. I LOVE this song. I love those girls, and those guys.
That's a party I would proudly go to!

I just love this group, fun, talented, energetic.
Each individual is iconic in their own way.
Cindy drives me wild.....love her.
One of my favorite songs from the "B's! The nicest band I ever met!!
1:01 - 1:12 is a big mood. This song is stunningly beautiful.
adorável homenagem ao Rio de Janeiro. Obrigado, B-52'S!
How happy did this make you feel? Incredibly happy!
she is my favorite too. But both ladies are unique and their voices together are forming an "Abba in naughty" sound and i think that was the secret of the band.
Nobody can top this Cindy Wilson awesome rendition of this tune and composition that is tailor made for her.
BEAUTIFUL. BEAUTIFUL. BEAUTIFUL
This sounds catchy, fresh, way to cool for today's today's music.
gsp631, It IS. Way too cool 😎 for both today’s music music. But, apparently, its a great source of pain for the band and fans, alike. One band member, hid his condition (what I can piece together) he had AIDS, and at the last minute, before dying, told them that and goodbye. Listen, I could be totally wrong here. This is something I read in the comments section, above your comment.
I love them so much. They are just pure fun, and they help me through hard times.
Cindy is an Awesome Singer!!!
I really love the bass in this.
1. Best song on the album. 2. Best ever round of toast @ 1:00 yum yum!
I watch this almost every day. It just makes me happy.
Love how powerful the Fairlight CMI type sounds are on this
FINALLY saw them live last year....absolutely amazing.... B 52's music is MADE for live concerts !
One of my favorite albums. Should be in every music lovers collection
Both Cindy and Kate sound pretty similar. Thats why they sound amazing when singing together!
Amazing hook. Can’t get enough of it
This, Theme for a Nude Beach, and She Breaks for Rainbows are absolutely perfect.
I'm Brazilian, and i didn't expect that, but i really liked this song!!
Such a banger of a tune but really sobering in a way. You can almost see it in their eyes how much they were in pain doing this video without Ricky. There's an artificiality about the dancing in this video that you never see with their other video recordings, you can tell they were bruteforcing through it and it's kinda heartbreaking seeing such a fun care-free band just not feeling it.
30 years on, still my favourite B52s track. Just a great song.
Good vibes on this song/video. Also a showcase for their voices. Amazing.
Kate is stronger than Hulk. I mean, who the fuck has the strenght to hold up a wig like that?
YCKFides What's That On Your Head ? A Wiiiiiiiiig!
Keith's hair is so good here it hurts.
Such a great club song back in the day. That voice just cutting through to the heavens.
I love the soaring instrumentals and melancholy harmonies, chords, and melody line. Those are the same qualities that I appreciate in the band's "Channel Z". I heard about Kate's rustic guest house/inn. I'll bet it's a treat !
Wow. This is beautiful.
As a fan of Girl From Ipanema, I completely approve.
Happy 60th Birthday, Cindy! (Feb, 28, 2017)
How I loved this song, and this entire album as well. Bouncing Off the Satellites. It's a special moment in B-52s history.
I saw them live a few times in the 80s and always enjoyed their style. This song was a great one for a drive... still in my road trip collection on Spotify.
Voices from another realm. Girl From Ipanema - The B-52s
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard
My very first B-52’s song in 1986. And I thought “who are these people?” Right away I knew there was something amazing about them 👍🏻
When I bought this cassette was when I found out about Ricky´s departure. It´s so different to see just four of them but I admire their strenght to go ahead with the album´s and video release.
Can't wait to see them on tour this summer!
Nobody is like them!!! So unique.
This video kills it. This band kills it. :')
My favourite song of theirs and FINALLY available on itunes.
One of our greatest bands.
Always fun to listen to. Many styles and unique. We need them now.
I think this is one of my favourite songs by them!! Ricky Wilson was amazing!!
Fred looks his usual weird self... (don't ever change Fred.....), Keith looks suave, Ricky... we miss ya... Kate has that Hollywood smile and Cindy just looks stunning! Love this tune. Let's all head to Greenland.
this song goes with one of my earliest memories as a child of dancing with my mom in our living room. I danced to this song with my little boy. Probably one of my favorite songs of all time.
My absolute favorite song ever by the b-52s listen to it everyday !
still loving them in 2020! what a great song..
The best. Just the very best
This band was so far ahead of their time. Check out Kate dabbing at the beginning (0:08 - 0:12) and also at 2:16 lol
World's greatest/randomest music ever and I love it
Oh, hi you're here cool
I remember my older brother buying bouncing off the satellites album when I was 10 on cd. It was magical to hear it
In my life, all I ever wanted was 1) to be on the cast of “Lost” and 2) to be a member of the B-52s
Love the B52. Big fan since i first saw them at CBGBs New York City Awesome punk band. Went on to be one of the most celebrated bands.
Such a wonderful band of their time, they made odd seem fashionable. I love this group, they're my favorite new wave band, I don't think we may see another like them.
God I love this song!
It brings back memories of one of the best periods of my life ...
Makes me feel happy.
Best part starts at 2:15. Cindy's voice is perfection.
