    When Geralt lets Ciri trash Avalla'ch's study is my all-time favorite scene between them. He is showing his paternal side and I do consider their bond as more of a father and daughter than I do anything else. He and Yen are her parents by choice. Pavetta and Enhyr may have created her biologically, but she was never really theirs. She was always meant for Geralt and Yen.

    • @Irmarinen
      @Irmarinen 5 лет назад +20

      Not entirely correct - Pavetta was a loving mother, maybe not doting, but loving, Duny was just in this marriage as a calculation. He cared, but more out of political calculation, rather than familial love.

    My favorite is in the books where Geralt finds Ciri again for the 3rd time in lower Sodden in the house of the merchant Yurga where she asks Geralt to say she is his destiny where he replies "your much more than that Ciri much more." Makes me wanna cry at a touching father daughter moment.

    That chapter, jeezus. It was great. I mean in the show Geralt's like "I will protect her blah blah" In the books he legit doesn't want her at all (partly because he doesn't know how to take care of kids really and thinks his lifestyle would be more than awful for her) then they meet in brokilon, after whitch Geralt finally start to take a liking to her. And after the siege of Cintra and how they meet, just perfect, and it makes sense why Geralt started caring for her, and also why he was shocked about what happend in Cintra, since he was like "Fuck, I really hope she's not dead.". Just perfect.

    This chapter and Something More chapter were the parts of the novels I thought they would at least adapt into the show. Many of my friends loved the show and I can see why but to the book readers, we're sitting here thinking, "Why in the Hell did they leave this part out!?" I tried explaining to my friends about how the bonding between Ciri and Geralt was basically the main part of the narrative. Every single one of them basically had a response of "yeah, yeah, whatever. I can't for wait for season 2!" I now realize, a lot of people have very low standards and want to keep it that way. -_-
    The pay off at the end of Something More was so tear jearking and so emotional. If the show went that route, they would've hit it out of the ball park and even more people would fall in love with it.
    Honestly, there's no excuse for the show runners to make this ridiculous mistake. The show is clearly a rushed product that they even had to cut out the meat of the story.
    I do appreciate what the show had to offer but honestly it's exactly how Netflix Geralt described it. "Like ordering a pie and finding out it has no filling."

    One of the great things about GoT was identifying with the Stark family and investing in the moment where they'll be one day, reunited. Of course, less emotional in a single season but they could have invoked something very similar, maybe even stronger considering its a father-daughter bond, and a sweet but rebellious little girl at that. My guess is the low budget. In 8 episodes they had to introduce all three (four with Jaskier) characters to us, prepare the foundations for future adventures and therefore had to make hard decisions cutting some interesting but not important plots off. This is why they they added Dara, so he can help Ciri survive in the woods. The story about her escaping, meeting Geralt and so on would require at least one more episode, could be more confusing. Okay... so I FINALLY the timeline of all the meetings between Geralt and Ciri!
    1st - Geralt first had a connection with her when he invoked the Law of Surprise when he was to get a reward from Dunny (young Emhyr) cause Pavetta was pregnant but Emhyr didn't know it at first. BUT while having claim to her he could chose at what point he can come to pick her up.
    2nd - He came to visit their home in Cintra BUT he didn't really feel like taking on a child so he just left without even seeing her (though she knew that some witcher was supposed to take her)
    3rd - he rescued her from a manticore in the woods with the help of Dryads, now this is the first time he actually saw her and she met him BUT even then he chose to let her go back to her family.
    4th - Now this was after the Slaughter in Cintra, when the Nilfgaardian army took over the city she escaped into the woods and was rescued and later adopted/took in by a peasant woman. Then Geralt by mere chance (or rather destiny) had rescued the husband of that woman and again invoked the Law of Surprise as his prize. And since that man had no idea his wife adopted an orphan it turned out that that girl was CIRI! And now this time finally Geralt decided it's finally time to accept that the girl IS indeed bound to him by destiny so finally he decides to take her to Kaer Morhen to train!
    This is such a damn conundrum to me as I heard 3 different stories about how Geralt got her and it turns out they were all correct.... Not to mention that their family had their main home in Cintra but also had their um... 2nd home in Skelliga where they were friends with the An Craites, going back and forth between Skeliga and Cintra really confused me. :/

    So what's the mod you used for the shots?
    I always play the theme where Geralt finds her on the island when I read the part where they meet after the fall of Cintra. A couple short passages but by that time I get misty eyed. I think that probably is my favorite book scene.
    Game wise I think where I as Geralt choose to believe in Ciri at the end and let her go face the White Frost because it really brings home the father daughter relationship and seeing that relationship is a big part of why i became a father for real.

    Damn shame this wasn't included in the show. I think this has permanently worsened the impact of the story for the rest of the Netflix show. It's such a brilliant moment from Andrej Sepkowski that really sets up their relationship together and I can't believe they simply ignored it. I'm worried that the relationship between Geralt and Ciri will just feel weird as hell in season 2, as them meeting at the end of season 1 was miles less impactful or emotional than in the books.

    Ciri acted like a spoiled, but not bad kid, she was adorable. Geralt scolded almost all spoil out of her by the end of the road. I think Ciri fell for how sincere Gerald was with her, he cared sincerely, he scolded sencerely. Something she probably only saw from her gramma and Mausesack, her family, so to her it felt lile Geralt also was family. You know somewhat simular feeling - when you meet someone and it feels as if you've known that person for years, like it's your person. Not in a romantic way, but you feel it. Ciri and Geralt didn't talk like strangers, they were dad and his little girl right from the start.

I hope that makes sense. I'm new to the game lore and have only played the 3rd but to my knowledge, there are characters from the books that just kind of pop up in the third/ We also see this meeting in the game but it's just the last moments of it

    I really hope that they adapt this scene into a scene of Season 2. I think the reason they chose to combine the Brokilon story with her flight from Cintra was because they didn't want to break up the timeline any more than they already had, and also because the they wouldn't be able to use the same actress for a much younger Ciri. And it's such an essential scene that the writers did not overlook it by any means. It was a very deliberate decision. Which means they are either planning to incorporate it into Season 2, or they really have no idea what in the hell they are doing. This is a very scary possibility seeing as they have changed several things for no other reason than personal preference rather than the restrictions of adapting a novel. The huge red flags are Fringilla Vigo and the penis armour. Also I think Borch Three Jackdaws' change from a medieval party goer to generic wise old man deserves a mention.

    So the show just completely skipped this? Or is this being set up for when they finally see each other at the end of the final episode? Also how old Ciri meant to be at this point? The timeline is so confusing to me not having read the books. It doesn't help when the actress playing Ciri, I'm assuming, seems much too old to play her.

    • @Witcherino

    • @thisismetemptingfate

      Unless Geralt was locked up for years, I believe there was a mention of it being twelve years since he chose the law of surprise, which in theory means in the series she's meant to be around 11 or so. As for the actress's apparent age, I gotta say, she looks younger than my thirteen year old, equal in age at oldest, in makeup, to me anyway. I completely agree to disagree on that point. It would be great if they could have had a kid playing a kid, but from all the interviews and behind the scenes I've seen for movies and TV that include child actors, I can understand why they would have chosen an adult they thought might pass.
      I don't imagine that they had the largest budget, and having to pay for tutors (the most expedient for filming) for one child actor probably didn't fit in it. Working around standard school hours *and* child labor laws would likely have been a logistics nightmare where such a major character was concerned. Not the best creative choice, I agree, but I do understand why it was made.

    • @VictusPrime
      @VictusPrime 5 лет назад

      @@thisismetemptingfate Pretty much the entire cast of Harry Potter would have a word or two to say about that.

    • @thisismetemptingfate
      @thisismetemptingfate 5 лет назад

      @@VictusPrime I'll grant my ignorance of the educational background of the cast of Harry Potter. My understanding came from US TV, you're still comparing apples to oranges. Given that The Witcher was filmed across at least three countries with more distance between them than the UK in it's largest dimension, if I estimated distance properly from online maps, a better comparison would be the children of traveling entertainers.
      The only time effective way to get that done would be with homeschooling. That also means navigating multiple different sets of child labor laws. There are likely other intricacies that I'm missing entirely when it comes to a child working internationally, I'm not in the film industry. At the end of the day there are something's that are, I believe, fairly common across most developed countries.
      1. Children can not sign binding contracts.
      2. If their school work suffers, the job's gotta go.
      3. Unless one parent has sole custody, both must agree for the child to be able to leave the country without the potential for kidnapping charges.
      4. While a company could potentially sue the parents for breech of contract, if they withdraw consent at anytime, things will become messy.
      While I'm sure there are work arounds for all of those things, at the end of the day if they can find an adult who may pass, it's much less of a headache, and much less likely to result in the potential for a lawsuit. I too would have liked to see a more authentic creative choice, but I completely understand why it wasn't made.

    This should've been in the show as it would explain how much Geralt cares to go through anything for Ciri. They placed too much emphasis on 'destiny' like it just somehow gives them a relationship. Pavetta and Emhyr meeting each other and falling in love despite his curse, that's destiny. But suddenly hugging each other like long lost relatives at the end when they were still strangers, I just don't buy it.

    This is a much stronger demostration of the concept of destiny. Two people, bound by destiny, even If they don't know each other, somehow through thick and thin, destiny will lead one to another. In the show, Ciri was literally told by Calanthe to find Geralt, how is that destiny? Honestly that part where Calanthe told Ciri to 'find Geralt of Rivia' is so weird and out of place. Calanthe will never, ever send Ciri to find Geralt, never.

The thing is, the series changed it a little because it fits better for tv. The books are written very uniquely and probably wouldn’t make an interesting tv series people actively want to watch more of the figure out the story. They both have their own benefits.
