I can see that there would be a better scenario for the whole battle. And not unwinnable for the Nordlings. First of all, Djikstra is not getting killed, but he's getting maimed by Geralt. Therefore he is again thrown back into shadows. Roche has not decided to surenderr to Nilfgaardian army. And Radovid, altough he is a tyrant is one last commander that will be able to stand against Emhyr. The Nilfgaard has moved twordss the city. The way was not easy, due to the coordinated attacks of Blue Strips and Djikstra's intell. The buildings out of city walls were completly destroyed, the citizens knew that this is needed for defense. The Garrison of the City was composed of City Watch, the Witch Hunters, Hemmelfart's guard, redanian army, and local criminals that joined in defense of the city. The Nilfgaardians begin the blocade of the city, both on land and on sea. Due to the Djikstra's info, given to the defenders by Roche's people, the defenders knew exacly what they were going up against. The Nilfgaardians begin a bombardment by both siedge machies, and mages. Defenders were responding by thier own artylery, and a knowleadge of a witch hunters, who dedicated thier lifes twords fighting a magic users. Under the cover of night the defenders were organising a sorties, composed of allied forces of witch hunters and gangsters. Those raids were succesfull and killed many of Nilfgaardian mages and siedge engees. In addition to that a relieaf forces were incoming from land and sea. For millenia the people of Skellige have been an enemies of the Nilfgaard. And now they had a perfect opportunity to make the lifes of an invaders a missery. Allowed by his queen and sister Cerys, young yarl Hjalmar an Craite have led fleet of the skelligan wolfships twords Novigrad to break the blocade. Acompanied by his former rival for the Skellige's throne Svanrige, son of a previous King of the Isles who wanted to take revange on the southeners for his father death. Hjalmar was commanding over 5 thousend of the Skelligean warriors and over 500 ships. But they were not the only help incoming. The other releaf forces were a 2 thousend of Redanians, led by a well known warlord - Olgierd von Everec. Olgierd was a redanian noble, who have made a pact with the demon known in this world as Ghaunter O Dim. Demon have done Olgierd's wishes by hands of the withcher - Geralt of Rivia. However thanks to Geralt's help, Olgierd managed to break free from the literal pact with the devil. Knowing now how it feels to have heart made out of the stone, he have choosen to end his days on his terms. So he have started to gather young redanian nobles, and anyone who wanted to fight and wanted get rich by war and fight. Soon the Hjalmar's fleet have shown up on the horizon. Nilfgaardian commander, unsure of thier intentions did not reacted. It was a fatal mistake. The Islanders have crushed into the blocking fleet and thier admiral died by the hand of the Hjalmar himself. The releaf also brought the supplices for the starving city. Reinforced by the newly arrived forces the defenders decided to do a sorty. However the blacks were still a dangerous foe, that could not been ignored. They tied up the defending forces, and a brutal combat occured. It was this exact moment when the second relieaf force came to the rescue. Led by Olgierds Redanian nobles have charged from the eastern flank and broke thrue the siedging foe, with Olgierd leading the charge. Despite the efforts of mages, and nilfgaardian commanders the troops started to panic. Commande Vhooris was trying to rally his soldiers but quickly he was found by the Olgierd who personaly broke thrue Vhooris's men and cut of his head. However he was struck several times by the arrow. Still he continued to lead his men, chasing down running blacks. After the battle Hjalmar, Hemmelfart, Djikstra, who revealed himself and still wounded Olgierd have came to the talk after the battle. After a long talks Hemmelfart agreed to support Djikstra in his way for the crown, knowing that the spymaster could easly get rid of him. The times of the burning and sounds of tortured witches came to the end, especialy when a cruel commander of the Witch hunters - Menge gone. The victory at Novigrad have costed Emhyr everything. He lost both prestige, support, wealth and loyality of his men. Shortly after the loss he was assasinated and his succesors agreed on Radovids terms. However it did not continued well for the mad king. He died in assasination killed by his former advisor - Filippa Eilhart. Without the king the nobles, encouraged by Olgierd - decided to elect Djikstra as the ruler of Redania. He would be known as the Iron Chancellor of the North - ruling just and equal, bringing peace to the North.

Btw estimating Nilfgaardian army as as much as 300 000 is quite a big mistake. When we hear that 300k number it's all personnel involved in military operation. Which means all non-combatant support as well. And that's quite large portion of army. In medieval french "lances" that was 33%. In Roman Legion that was 20%. Difference between 300k and 200k is quite significant.

I love hearing one of my favorite voices on one of my favorite RUclips channels talk about one of my favorite fantasy worlds.
Carlo “Cleaver” Varese did not take up arms against Nilfgaard as he’d been killed during the nonhuman pogroms after the mages left the city.
Amazing! Thanks so much for covering the Witcher universe! Great job guys :)
Video has a background sound looping as "As it turns out" starting around 11:45 and really goes for a while.
I already loved kings and generals but this channel is on new level it basically everything I love in one channel epic fantasy and sci fi worlds combined with massive battles and In-depth backstorys of the worlds
Loved the video. But i hoped this would have also covered the battle between nilfgard and skelligers against the wild hunt.
How about the UN-MCR Cold War / War from The Expanse next?
Ahhh nostalgia of such a great story. Alright, time for my 10th playthrough.
I get you have to use assets ober again but that repeating drone speech in the background from like 13:00 to 13:30 was almost torturous
Outstanding work! Will be happy to see a Star Craft series due to its deep lore and epic clashes :) keep up the good work its EPIC! ♥
If you listen between 12:55-1:25 in the background they keep repeating “as it turns out”. A miner error with the audio, but one that got a bit of a chuckle out of me (for some reason).
Very well made video. I didn't know about the last part with the fall of Novigrad.
The only thing I don't like is the animated knight/figures that appear when you quote someone. I don't think they are necessary, and it looks sort of weird when they do their animations.

I like it; I always rooted for Nilfgaard, and I think that it's more interesting to have a story where the "bad" guys won, but the "good" losing mostly meant that the peasants and merchants got better irrigation and mills, and there were fewer petty warlords and monsters.
Also, Ciri would make an excellent empress.

@@krk5770 that is not a good comparison coz europe was and is much more rich, developed, scientifically and technologically ahead of russia with tremendous cooperation between them.
A better comparison would be the unification of squabbling HRE states into a single entity germany which ended wars, infighting and significantly improved the living standards of the locals.

Ah, a tad shame in seeing the choice of killing Sigismund. I saw him as the choice to repel an imperialistic power, even if he isn't a saint.
But many game players apparently sided with Roche because of the bro code and think it would be what Geralt would actually do in that situation 😂.

@@haiqal5333 Roach was the only bro Geralt had. Roche can kick rocks. Djikstra was a way more interesting character, raging prick or not. But then, I felt the same about Phillipa as well.
That’s true. Though he ultimately was also an imperialist himself, and was happy to murder his former Temerian allies in front of Geralt to ensure that the region remains under his direct rule rather than be an independent vassal of Nilfgaard.
Could you do a series on The Legacy of Kain? That would be awesome.

I’m curious to know where the details of The Battle of Novigard comes from. Did this come from a source or was it a researched what-if.
If the latter, it’s well done and you should pat yourselves on the pat for a well thought out scenario. If the former, I’d love to get a look at this source as The Witcher franchise has become a recent favorite of mine.
I think cannon is that Ciri becomes a witcher and Voorhis becomes an emperor. He kills Emyr (or he just dies in captivity) and Emyrs name is much later cleaned up by Emperor Calveit in 1328.
