I wish I would have waited til it was done to watch it all in a row instead of watching it in real time. Then again I wouldn’t have known what I was missing and could’ve never went back and watched it. I envy the ones who got into it later
Man; it was AGONIZING; trying to get through a whole week before continuing. This is the second of only two series I've watched in their entirety; during their original airings. The Sopranos was the first and then Breaking Bad a little while after that. Still haven't found a series that keeps my interest. I guess it makes sense that nothing else is even in the same galaxy as Sopranos and Breaking Bad. Every other show seems inferior
I didn’t pay attention to it when it first came out but when I discovered it, I binged the first 4 seasons. Season 5 wasn’t out yet and I thought I was gonna die from having to wait for every episode. And the mid season split was the worst 😂
*when he put the can down and went outside to tell them off he was deciding to stay in the drug business. the whole thing with him doing the construction on his house was him trying to fix all the bad stuff that's grown within him since he broke bad thinking he would die. he wanted to get rid of heisenberg and be walt again. but then he put that shit down and left it behind, walking outside in full heisenberg mode and decided to embrace it instead of get rid of it.*
BJ nailed it on desert temps. In the day it can get hot as hell but the coin flips once that sun goes down. The 2 dudes at the hardware store was an exact mirror image of Walt n' Jessy. BB likes it's little hints. ;)
Radiation Pneumonitis is a real side effect of cancer treatment, when they zap the tumor they also literally burn the parts of the lung nearby and it makes patients cough....My theory when I watched the dhow was that Walter was punching the bathroom paper dispenser because he WANTS to die and "go out like a G"....if he is actually getting better than he might have to go back to his old life...to me its the first sign that he LIKES what he is doing because he was so bored and miserable before
cancer doctors : your cancer is gone 80% Asia : i refuse to believe it !! 😂 also why did Walt act like that towards Hank ? Walt felt powerless and diminished by his sickness, meanwhile his son treats Hanks more like a father figure , it's making him mad . that was him "empowering " himself at the pool party and "marking his territory" . a truly sad ( and funny) scene tbh . best quote by BJ ( about Walt) : "He is possessed by the spirit of the streets ! " 😂
What makes Walt so interesting is that when he found out he was dying, he said "Screw all the rules, I'm doing what I want." He told himself it was for his family, but it was really for himself. He fell in love with the feelings of power and respect. The power became Walts "drug." So when he found out he wasn't going to die, he become frustrated because he could now give up the life, but he realized he didn't want to give it up.
Watched the whole thing in about 2 weeks.... felt like I was put through a blender. The combination of writing mastery, acting, direction and the horrible subject matter left me unable to look away.
I did basically the same thing up until the last two seasons. I intentionally took a break for a month or so, then rewatched the last season I'd seen and went right into it through the glorious end.
Back then when made a local call you didn't have to dial the area code, just the 7 digit number. It wasn't until EVERYONE had a cellphone that you had to start dialing the area code for EVERY call, even if you were calling next door.
I like you guys because you're not annoying like literally every other RUclips couple. You show enough of the show/movie to keep the video interesting, and you give enough reaction so I don't feel like I'm just watching it by myself.
The reason Walt wasn't happy about the remission, was because he enjoys being Heisenberg, and if he isn't dying he has no reason to continue doing it. I think its at this point he realises that he isn't doing it for his family, he's doing it for himself.
i've heard it's common for people who survive terminal [mis]diagnoses to experience anger and/or depression (although atm i don't have any database access to find relevant case studies) the idea is that after a person fully faces and accepts their mortality, they often have difficulty returning to normal life: regular things seem mundane and without meaning (i.e. walt trying to read the magazines, his dissociative disposition during the party) his remission means Walt now has a lot more to lose and no longer the same need for money, but something tells me he isn't going to go back to being the meek high school chemistry teacher he once was (/convinced himself to be)
Lol I do what Marie does. I’m an X-ray tech. And she is right the doctors do come to us. And legally we can’t tell patients anything. But the spot that was lit up in his lungs is inflammation due to the radiation treatment that he had. It’s just swollen lung tissue. He felt survivors guilt, and when his wife thanked Elliot and the other women for paying for the treatment when he had done everything he had done to pay for it. He was angry and couldn’t say anything
When I rewatch Breaking Bad, I tend to do it when I can watch 5 or 6 episodes in one sitting. It is so satisfying. During the lockdown, I would watch as many as 12 in one day.
Walt felt emasculated by Hank since the first episode. Watching his son look up to Hank instead of him was the last straw. That’s why he did what he did with the liquor. He even says “My son” when telling Hank to give him back the bottle. It’s about Walt taking back control and asserting his manhood, however misguided his attempt was.
that's Aaron Paul's favorite episode, he really dehydrated himself for a day to authenticate his character and what was originally planned as a bottle episode turn out to be the most expensive episode so far! one of the best!
Another 1 of my favorite episodes with 4 days out. Kind of a quiet episode if you think about it but I love how it really develops Walt and Jesse’s relationship. So many great scenes between the 2 of them.
I was WAITING for this video!!! Man…it’s just like I’m watching with some friends and seeing their reactions. Plus, you two have great commentary and very deep analysis. So much fun!
BJ wanting to watch this show so bad warms my heart, legendary show. You guy's are amazing keep up the great work! PS: Gotta give into him wanting to record these, you will not regret it.
I kind of feel like Walt punching in the bathroom was his frustration that he was getting better. Death was his out and now he has to continue to live with what he's done and been through
My take on Walt having Walt Jr keep drinking is that was Heisenberg coming through. Being in remission and potentially not having an outlet for Heisenberg (Walt's dark side), he popped out there while being celebrated for his "good news" and hearing Hank talk. I also believe that is why he punched the towel holder in the restroom.
He punches the paper towel in the dispenser because he realizes that he still has to live with himself and the things he's done instead of succumbing to cancer
Also, I like to think Walter punched the towel dispenser, and acted out toward hank, bc he did all this bad stuff with the knowledge of his coming death. The "good news" reduction made him realize he might not die, and maybe shouldn't have made earlier decisions.
You guys are amazing. Reactions are great when you have a male and female duo, and your relationship is so special to see. The sense of humor you guys have is refreshing, and your choice of movies to react to has been perfect.
You’re so invested in the characters and I love all of it. Once you’ve finished with the series and start going through withdrawal I suggest you watch El Camino, the follow up movie made by BB creators, for the cherry on top. And then of course there’s Better Call Saul. Your analysis is always spot on. Love y’all so much.
BJ I totally feel you. I just spent the entire month of January binging Breaking Bad, El Camino, and Better Call Saul. I have not taken my Christmas tree down yet cuz I’ve been glued! 😂
I’ve watched random episodes by reactors over the years here and there sporadically, but this is the first time I’m re-watching the whole series from jump since it ended and I’m addicted right along with y’all. And I KNOW everything that’s gonna happen. Greatest series ever and I still stand by that in 2023
That last scene at the end of episode 10… that’s not Walter anymore, that’s Heisenberg and if you pay attention to the lyrics of that song “DLZ” by Tv on the Radio (you should check them out in your music reactions) fits perfect! He looks absolutely terrifying! Greetings from Toronto!!
KILZ is often used as a primer under paint. It does an adequate job of that but is also supposed to "kill" fungi and help preserve, depending on the formulation. It smells exceptionally bad except for the "odorless" formulation which only smells very bad.
Had a bad day in work and got in and honestly hoped you had posted this next reaction so I could just chill and watch it. And BANG! first video recommended was this. You came through today. Thanks!
This is episode that Walt made the decision to let Heisenberg just take over!! He realizes that he truly loves the rush from the drug game in the middle of his very boring life!! 👏 This is my favorite show ever and I will rewatch it over and over from here on out!!😁 You catch something different every time you watch it because its so masterfully written and acted!!💜 When you're done watching the series, there's so many videos on youtube with reunions of the cast and the-writers explaining many episodes...so much fun to watch the cast reunite😁😁😁 Dark cloud over this-season...
Just finished your Ep. 9 watch, enjoying your insights and perspective. I think Walter was really angry at the end because he's accepted that he's going to die and he wants to leave his family with something. However, the longer he lives, the more he'll have to earn for the treatments keeping him alive. He knows it's futile and self defeating but he wants his son to see him fighting for his life. The cook, the cancer, the treatment, the lies, they guilt, it's all working to wear him down to nothing.
I watched this show from the first night it aired and it was torture waiting week to week for the next episode to air and then months for the next season…especially because the first few seasons it was hit or miss as to whether the show would be renewed! It is definitely an addictive show to watch. I’ve been having fun watching you guys react to it!
I went to bed too early. Nothing on tv. When I saw you guys were back on the Breaking Bad train I got happy. I didn't watch the series when it first came out but after it ended they started doing weekend marathons. Watched for 48 hours straight once. Long time ago so I am not sure what's next in the early episodes you are reacting to. Its highly addictive.
The song playing when Walter and Jesse drive into the desert is "Good morning freedom" by Blue Mink. Lovely and happy vibes :) I think Walts anger comes from that he had his mind made up to sacrifice himself, leave that money to his family and check out the way he wanted. When his health got better he lost that control. Being a surviving criminal was not part of his chosen path.
I always imagined Walt punched the paper towel despenser after the happy diagnosis because he didn't want to get better. I believe he really did start cooking to help his family but at some point he was more into the idea of building his pride and ego. So when he found out he no longer needs to be Heisenberg, he felt a loss of purpose basically being right back to where he was before he found out about his cancer. Throughout the series you will find that Walter is completely prideful and in some ways desperate for the thrill, ultimately making him in some ways his own villain. I don't know, I could be wrong .
30:20 - "He didn't even dial the area code". Yes, back in the 1980s and 1990s, you didn't have to use the area code unless you were dialing "long distance" (outside of your area code). That's what area codes were used for. You actually had to PAY for "long distance" and sales people would call you every night during dinner trying to sell you on a "new long distance phone plan". Thank God these days are behind us.
I've always enjoyed your channel, but this series has been my favorite content of yours. Not just because if the subject, but how caught up you both are in it. Great content!
No spoilers here. But you are getting into the better stuff. Once the lawyer (Saul Goodman) enters the show, the chicken man is coming, and the older guy - Mike the enforcer- enters the show. It is even more compelling and amazing. Love watching you guys watch! (then watch Better Call Saul next which is the prequel and how these characters met but with a fantastic storyline). Anyway - you guys are my guilty pleasure enjoying getting your reactions
There's a lot to unpack about Walter putting down the White and becoming Heisenberg when he does. When the series began, the Heisenberg personality was one he put forward as a front to pretend he's isn't just Walter White. But the more the show goes on and the more addicted to the rush and feeling of empowerment he gets, the more Walter White becomes the front he puts up to pretend he isn't Heisenberg.
Didn’t occur to me until now, that Walter getting the the news of his remission & realizing he’s already faced death & beat it, it has given him the feeling that he’s got nothing & no one to fear & now believes he’s become invincible. 🍿🥂
I just watched a Movie with the Lawyer from this show (Bob Odenkirk). The movie is called …Nobody… I HIGHLY recommend this movie. Love your all your first time videos. I’m all caught up on your previous uploads. Keep them coming, I look forward to watching them. 👍 Boom!!! 👊
walt acted the way he did towards his son and hank because walt jr is always looking to hank as more of a father figure than walt himself. the badass dea agent uncle who takes down bad guys for a living; versus a very shy & quiet, introverted chemistry teacher. first you have the scene with hank on tv boasting about his most recent bust. then you have a scene where he takes walt jr on a ride-along to the crystal palace for a reality check about drugs. then walt jr calls hank as his dad when he gets in trouble for trying to buy alcohol. THENNN (lol), you have everything in general that plays its role within this family tension; like walt wanting to be that badass his son looks up to, but can't without looking like a monster, so he has no choice but to watch him bond with hank as thats what his son looks up to kind of thing. this is all that lead up to walt losing his cool at the bbq, he had enough of witnessing his own son look up to another man as a role model figure.
I think ya'll talked over the explanation for the cough - it was radiation pneumonitis, and that was the reason he was upset when he found out he wasn't as sick as he wanted to be, kind of wants a free out right now
Awesome to see you guys go on the journey of Breaking Bad like this. Seeing them stuck in the dessert like this was really hilarious. Great reactions and take care!
Walt was pissed at the end of the 1st episode here because he basically lost his "get out of jail free" card, with the cancer update. He figured even if he gets caught, he's going to die soon so he won't have jail as a problem for long, now he's in this life with no exit strategy.
FYI: Breaking Bad adheres to the "Chekov's Gun" theory of narrative. If you see it on the screen, IT'S IMPORTANT. There is nothing extraneous. Everything you see, if the camera focuses on it, will figure into the overall plot. In the entire series there isn't one wasted second on something extraneous, random or unimportant. There are no loose ends.
Love watching you guys experience this for the first time. Here are a few spoiler free comments. You are right about Walter feeling like he's never had control is his life...until he had cancer. Then when his new diagnosis came In, he was very frustrated because the feeling of knowing the end was near....was gone. He had to deal with life again. So his obsession with things like fixing the water heater, being the man of the house when Hank was around, all stem from his struggle of realizing the end is NOT near and he isn't in control of his life again. The teddy bear and black and white scenes will be resolved in the season finale in a very heartbreaking scene. Season 2 is the weakest of the 5. When you get to season 3, you may have to watch 3 episodes at a time as it is so good! Love ya guys!
Personal theory, Walt was punching the paper towel dispenser because he was hoping to die so as to not have any ties between his family and the drug dealing he was doing. Now that he will live he is confronted with the fear of death again and the possibility of his family being associated with the drug dealing. I also like to think of it as a symbolic imagery with the mouth on the reflection symbolizing his greed when it comes to money. The demon that keeps pushing him forward is greed. Even greed for his passion.
You are not alone, BJ. When I first watched breaking bad, I marathon watched it. I couldn’t wait. I’m not even a TV person. I then watched it again… and later again. I watched the entire series many times now… it’s a CLASSIC. BRW, 3:03 Y’all need to also check out Sons of Anarchy. It’s really good.
Yeah this show definitely gets you hooked up, and it gets better with every season. Last 3 episodes of second season are straight up fire, really looking forward to it!
every year I watch BB from beginning to end..I've watched it 5 times. you guys should consider reacting to the old twilight zone episodes. vince gilligan the creator of BB was heavily influenced by the twilight zone
I took Walt’s violent reaction as a negative response to his new prognosis. Almost like he was upset to hear his condition was better. Ion know if that’s what it was or not, but thought I’d give my thoughts! Love your reactions guys!
The doctor told him the truth as he is the expert. The large spot that came up on the Xray is the inflammation and Walter just thought it meant the worst (thanks to Marie's misguided comments). Walt definitely thought his time was up and went all out to cook and leave his family as much money as possible. However, when he was given the good news, he felt angry with himself for having broken bad this far only to find out that he might actually survive. This is why he punched the dispenser angrily.
Nah Asia, there's nothing more to Walt's health issues other what the doctor said. He didn't mention his cough and coughing up blood for so long because he had already made his peace with dying and cooking enough meth to provide for his family in the short time before he does. He had taken control, but now that that time suddenly became longer, he lost control again, and he lashes out (beating the crap out of the towel dispenser, getting drunk and belligerent at the party).
Walt punched the towel dispenser because he saw his reflection and saw his old self in it. He doesn't like the old Walt because the old Walt was weak, quit, reserved, unsuccessful, and had ZERO control over his own life. He got walked over and bullied by his employer, his peers, and even his own students... ...When Walt became sick, he was forced to become Hiesenburg because yet another situation out of his control (cancer), but in doing so he discovered that by breaking bad, he became FULLY in control of his own life and other lives around him and to him that was a massive liberation from his old persona he's been searching for his whole life. The cancer remission represents tp Walter the cessation of the need for him to break bad anymore and a return to his old life of meekness, weakness and vulnerability, but he hates that guy and prefers the strength and confidence of Hiesenburg as a reflection he would prefer to see....
I'm like BJ, I can't stop watching. I went ahead & just kept watching but I come back to watch it again with you two, You guys make this so much fun I just can't wait till you post them!
I've watched this show all the way through at least 4 times, but I'm really enjoying rewatching it with you. You guys, and Half and Jai are neck and neck for my favorite reaction couple. You're definitely pulling ahead with this series. Can't wait for the next episode.
Walter punching that paper towel holder was his anger... like, "wtf have I gotten into?... I only did this horrible crap coz I thought I was gon be dead. Now look at all I've done." Then, by the end, he's like "Fck it. I've come this far, ruined myself, and I'm good at this. Step aside folks." Breaking bad fr.
Again, there are so many subtle details and foreshadowing in every episode that trying to quickly get through them to find out what's next will make you miss things.
In this episode, he realizes that he can not be a regular guy anymore, doing regular things, fixing things in his house, he tries but he had been through things that changed in a way that that's not come back.

In Hank's defense, Walt was being a bad father in that moment.

Thank you Asia. You're a trooper. I feel you BJ. Once you get on a roll it's hard to stop.
03:14 Hank is back (in Albuquerque) like he never left --- just like you guys in your intro.
Lovely and happy vibes :)
I think Walts anger comes from that he had his mind made up to sacrifice himself, leave that money to his family and check out the way he wanted.
He transferred obsessions from cooking to home repair. The end of the show is Walter saying eff that, this is his game. He's BACK IN
30:20 - "He didn't even dial the area code".
4 days outside, for me the best chapter of the whole Breaking bad series.
I've always enjoyed your channel, but this series has been my favorite content of yours. Not just because if the subject, but how caught up you both are in it. Great content!
Heck yes Eddy here ! I was sitting scrolling thru videos hoping y’all pop up and damn , yes yes ! Thanks guys ! Makes my night !
That's what I did back in the day. I waited until the whole thing was over then binge watched for two weeks😂
The song is called Good Morning Freedom by Blue Mink... it's been on my playlist since this episode aired on tv lol
Be bow bow ba ba ba bow bow
walt/jesse truly the most unique relationship on tv
Putting eggs in a glass bowl has a purpose: making sure no shell gets into breakfast. You can eyeball the whole mess for flecks of white.
I think ya'll talked over the explanation for the cough - it was radiation pneumonitis, and that was the reason he was upset when he found out he wasn't as sick as he wanted to be, kind of wants a free out right now
That wasn't Walter sitting by the pool at his party, he either consciously or unconsciously slipped into his Heisenberg alter ego.
28:18 "did that little boy have a teddy bear?"🤣
This is the best series ever made, I have seen it at least 10 times...and it gets even better each time
Shout out to Asia and BJ from Albuquerque, NM... Y'all are always welcome in my territory 😆✌
This is fun watching this with you two. I’ve seen it twice through but it’s fun to see how you two react. Thank you! Love both channels
It’s really good.
yes, Son's of Anarchy needs to be done. Incredible show!
This episode really shows the difference between Walter and Jesse! They're polar opposites but together they make a product that nobody else can.
I went through the show the exact same way. Every evening it was, 'give me some more, give me some more.'
I get it BJ, i can only imagine how long i would've stayed up to binge this if i had all the seasons available lol
The song you were dancing to is called Good Morning Freedom by Blue Mink
If Jai and Asia laughed at the same time it would end war
Walter punching that paper towel holder was his anger... like, "wtf have I gotten into?... I only did this horrible crap coz I thought I was gon be dead. Now look at all I've done."
Then, by the end, he's like "Fck it. I've come this far, ruined myself, and I'm good at this. Step aside folks."
Breaking bad fr.
At 44:28 , Y'all need to react to that *TV On The Radio* song at the end of episode 10. It's called "DLZ". Great band and a great song!
Kilz is a primer you put on before you paint. 🤣🤣😋😛 If you think your hooked on this show now Wait until season 3-5
KILZ is a paint primer that hides and seals up stains.
