I miss the days when all I had to be worried about is what we were having for dinner and what time i'd had to be home by. Life becomes so serious so quick and we slowly forget how to have fun or simply don't have the time. 'Big' encapsulates that magic long forgotten.
Jared Rushton (Billy) had arguably the best trifecta of movies a child actor could ever have, and then bounced from acting. He did Overboard (1987), Big (1988) and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989), and then retired.
This movie was directed by Penny Marshall who also directed Tom Hanks in A League of Their Own. Her husband was Rob Reiner who directed A Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally. Rob’s father was Carl Reiner who played Sol (the old criminal of th group) in Ocean’s 11. Carl also created the Dick van Dyke show in the 60’s. Penny’s brother Garry Marshal created Happy Days with the Fonz. Penny’s daughter was in A League of Their Own as Betty Spaghetti. Very talented family.
And it was instantly iconic too, some things become legendary over time but that was instantly classic in the summer of 88. There were so many great movies that summer,Die Hard and Coming To America to name a few. I went and saw all of those despite being 8 years old,it was a different time😂
Josh just wanted to be taller. That's why he said he wanted to be big.He didn't want to become a grown-up. His friend was also in the movies " Honey, I shrunk the kids" and " Overboard ".
The city he goes to is BIG. The company he works for is BIG. The position he gets is BIG. The reason for male/female relationships is BIG. This movie is more clever than many can appreciate.
I can GENUINELY say that this movie actually made me stop and enjoy my childhood. My mom watched it with me and my siblings back in the 90’s. After I watched it I, SURPRISINGLY, got the point of the movie. So from that day forward I always had that thought in the back of my head. That thought being “This is the only childhood you are gonna get! ENJOY IT! Take a moment everyday to look around and appreciate everything you have and everything you don’t have to put up with. I have no bills, I don’t have to have a job. I can just have fun!”
Near the end when he begins to realize he misses being a kid, we can see the weather is now fall, which is a subtle reference to being old - he wants springtime again. Very clever this film when one stops looking at what the camera is focused on.
Actually walked by one of those Zoltar machines once when I was younger. Was genuinely freaked out for a good minute because I was thinking of this movie lol
Elizabeth Perkins is an American actress and Millie Bobbie Brown is a British actress, no relation, but yes, they do look alike. She's still around and she was in so many great movies in the '80s and the '90s. You should watch. "He said, She said" from 1991 It's a romantic comedy and it stars her and Kevin Bacon! ❤❤❤
Asia's comment at the end about Susan showing up as a girl in pigtails. 😮😱 As much as she liked Josh, no boy in the universe is worth going through puberty twice. 😂
She also asks: "What is that supposed to mean?" when it's obvious to any guy he 'liked a girl' and she was trying to get him to say it and he was 'found out'. Maybe one just has to be a guy to understand that awkward phase. :D
My favorite movie if you watch top gun 2 when Tom is at the bar in the background the music playing you will her a David Bowie song on the jukebox it's a homage to the late great bowie
Tom Hanks was one of the main characters in the television show: Busom Buddies, a show about 2 ad persons who rented a loft in an exclusive bldg. It was exclusive as in the complex only allowed women. Hanks and his male roommate dressed in womens clothing when out in public. That show was the springboard to Hanks starring in some of the greatest movies, ever.

It was Billy Idol, not David Bowie. I love this movie. If you want to see another early movie of Tom Hanks that is funny, you should watch Bachelor Party.
Yes - it's corn. It's baby corn and you're supposed to eat the whole thing - cob and all. He's eating it like normal corn on the cob. And beluga is a type of caviar. And the racket game they were playing is racket ball.
I can never remember telling myself I wished I was older. I was one of those whom thought becoming an adult would work without much input from me - I was both right and wrong. :P
I love your videos. If you haven't seen it, you guys should watch The Burbs. It's another great one from the '80s with Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher. I love rewatching these old 80s movies from my childhood. Some of them might've been cheesy but they were pretty creative.
Yup, where he found Zoltar (to turn back into a kid) is the same place he went with her to ride the rollercoaster and dance. The reason there was no water in the fountain is because they filmed that scene in the fall and Rye Playland (that amusement park) is closed in the fall and winter so the fountain is drained. I live close to there and have spent all 40 something summers of my life so far going there. There was never really a Zoltar there (except for the movie). A few years back they put a Zoltar in that amusement park but it looks nothing like the one in the movie which is really disappointing whenever I walk past it. lol
Elizabeth Perkins is in a show called Weeds, which I highly recommend even if not for the channel. I think BJ would enjoy some aspects of that show, IYKYK. Big gave me an unrealistic expectation of how easy it would be to get a job, as a kid.
"Wouldn't It Be Nice" Wouldn't it be nice if we were older? Then we wouldn't have to wait so long And wouldn't it be nice to live together In the kind of world where we belong? I love this movie, Tom Hanks pulls off this character like nobody else could. Robert Logia (the boss) is always good in every part he plays including Return to Me (2000). Mercedes Ruehl (mom) received a best actress Oscar for her part in The Fisher King (1991). Elizabeth Perkins (girlfriend) has been in many TV series including Weeds (2002-2009). John Herd (jealous coworker) has a career since the 70's and was in a favorite movie of mine Sweet Land (2005). Jared Rushton (best friend) is familiar to me from Honey, I Shrunk The Kids (1989) and TV series. Jon Lovitz (coworker) always adds so much to any movie he is in.
FAO Schwartz was a kid's paradise. I remember the big clock with the face. Today it's partly kid's toys, but only small ones like an ordinary toy store, and no driveable cars or giant train sets or giant Lego, or giant pianos like in the movie. But the other half is adult toys like drones. No kid's music playing "Welcome to the world of toys" either.
"The Man With One Red Shoe" was one of Hanks first major movies and it's a great show, Tom hanks was at his best when he first started and that says a lot if you look at his career cause his whole career is stellar. That was an actual landmark toy store on Fifth Avenue in NYC called FAO Schwartz. The company itself was quite old, it'd been around since the 1800s and it opened that location in the mid 1980s, just a couple of years before this movie was made. It was just as it looked in the movie, lots of over the top expensive toys, including the floor piano. That location closed around 2015. FAO Schwartz was bought out by a corporation that opened another store at Rockefeller Plaza. Zoltar was made for the movie but it was typical of fortune telling machines that'd been around since the early 1900s called automatons. Some of them dispensed a card like Zoltar, others actually talked. They were like large, coin operated Magic 8 balls.
Hello Asia & BJ!😊 This was back when Tom Hanks only did comedies, after coming off of a TV sitcom he starred in. This was actually a Fox film, but now is owned by Disney, which explains it being on the Disney Channel.😉 The film was written by Anne Spielberg, Steven Spielberg's sister. It was directed by Penny Marshall, star of the 70s - 80s TV sitcom "Laverne & Shirley", and director of "A League of Their Own" (1992). Those mini corn on the cob's are called "Baby Corns". Great reactions to this comedy classic, Guys!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You can't go wrong with Tom Hanks, everything he touches is gols. Such a great actor. He can play humor but also dramatic. This is one of his great films from his early years. I can watch it 100 times and get never bored. Thanks for your (always great) reaction. Love you both.
It was a Fox movie from 1988. Acquired by Disney when they bought their movie catalog. That also includes the X-Men movie rights, Fantastic Four movie rights plus the Aliens, Predator, Planet of the Apes franchises plus the Jame's Cameron Avatar franchise amongst others. Marvel Comics had a Bankruptcy in 1996 and sold a lot of movie rights to other studios for a quick influx of cash. They sold Spider-Man to Sony, The Hulk to Universal, and the others I mentioned to 20th Century Fox. 😮 The video game was not a real game. Just some 8 bit graphics on the screen. Lol. He was eating baby corn like it was corn on the cob. Beluga is a type of caviar...Sturgeon fish eggs. 😂 It's Racquetball 😂
Hey guys, I just wanted to tell you that was baby corns that he was eating at the party. They’re real soft and you can just eat them normally but he was eating them like it was corn on the cob
Asia! The director and screenwriter DID say that they considered having the Elizabeth Perkins character come back as a little girl at the end...but they didn't and planned to perhaps do a sequel instead, where she does so they can be together. Google it! They would call it "Little"...?
1. That's the same toy store used in "Home Alone II". 2. "Movie magic" a child getting an apartment in NY City 3. Every time I see baby corn I think of this movie. 4. Elizabeth Perkins could get it.😍😋😈 5. There's a Zoltar machine at Circus Circus casino in Reno in the parking area lobby. It must be plugged in to work though. 6. Would I go back? Hell yeah! I didn't have that prosperous a family, and I still would. 7. Tom Hanks is the GOAT. 8. Thank you Penny Marshall.
so lovely that you took the film on face value - a few other first time youtubers get all stuck up on morality issues with this film but you have to take it as a simple fun story. you guys watched it perfectly. oh and what he was eating at the buffet was baby sweetcorn but eating in a way a kid would - nibbling the tiny corns cause that is the wat you would eat normal sweetcorn right? 😁 I love how in every way they thought 'how would a kid approach this?' great film and one of my all time faves.
*BJ [rolling his eyes & sighing]:* "Babe... She gave him the 'forehead' kiss." *Asia [throwing a hand up]:* "Forget it... Cause she done gave him enough..." 🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀 I think a part of me literally died inside at that line, Sis.. Especially with that lil bit of umph & sass at the "GAVE him ENOUGH" parts.. Lmfao. Ya'll two killlll me sometimes..😂❤✌🏻
Wow, I forgot about this classic. This one's a good, clean, fun movie.. well, except for the part where they hook up, lol. As an adult looking back now, it's a bit pervy 😂 but they get away with it cause it's done in such an innocent type of way I think 🤔 🤷♀️
"Chopsticks" and "Heart and Soul" are the 2 songs played on the floor piano. Tom Hanks is such a great actor. He really becomes whomever he is playing. This of course is a young Tom Hanks.. Check him out in these movies: "Captain Phillips" ( A true story). "Sully" ( A true story about the plane that landed in the Hudson River). "Apollo 13" ( another true story about going to the moon). "A Man Named Otto" ( this is an adaptation from a book). "Sleepless In Seattle" and "You've Got Mail". ( both are romantic comedies with Meg Ryan". None of these Tom Hanks movies will disappoint.

The best song about wishing you were older by The Beach Boys, "Wouldn't it be Nice"
"Wouldn't It Be Nice"
Wouldn't it be nice if we were older?
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long
And wouldn't it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong?
You know it's gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together
Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new?
After having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through
But happy times together we've been spending
I wish that every kiss was never-ending
Oh, wouldn't it be nice?
Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray, it might come true (Run, run, we-ooh)
Oh, baby, then there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do
Oh, we could be married (Oh, we could be married)
And then we'd be happy (And then we'd be happy)
Oh, wouldn't it be nice?
You know it seems the more we talk about it
It only makes it worse to live without it
But let's talk about it
But wouldn't it be nice?
Goodnight, my baby
Sleep tight, my baby
Goodnight, my baby
Sleep tight, my baby
Goodnight, my baby
Sleep tight, my baby

It was a Fox movie from 1988. Acquired by Disney when they bought their movie catalog. That also includes the X-Men movie rights, Fantastic Four movie rights plus the Aliens, Predator, Planet of the Apes franchises plus the Jame's Cameron Avatar franchise amongst others.
Marvel Comics had a Bankruptcy in 1996 and sold a lot of movie rights to other studios for a quick influx of cash. They sold Spider-Man to Sony, The Hulk to Universal, and the others I mentioned to 20th Century Fox. 😮
The video game was not a real game. Just some 8 bit graphics on the screen. Lol.
He was eating baby corn like it was corn on the cob. Beluga is a type of caviar...Sturgeon fish eggs. 😂
It's Racquetball 😂
Tom Hanks was in a funny TV show called Busom Biddies. My family watched it. Only fan for a couple of seasons but we liked it.
Hey guys, I just wanted to tell you that was baby corns that he was eating at the party. They’re real soft and you can just eat them normally but he was eating them like it was corn on the cob
Splash
The Money Pit
Dragnet
The Burbs
All classic 80's Tom Hanks
The confidence of that “David Bowie” 😂❤
Asia! The director and screenwriter DID say that they considered having the Elizabeth Perkins character come back as a little girl at the end...but they didn't and planned to perhaps do a sequel instead, where she does so they can be together. Google it!
They would call it "Little"...?
There is an alternate ending where they did do that and she shows up in his class at the end. He recognizes her immediately.
“Nobody messes with Billy Idol”
Ha! If you liked this version of Tom Hanks, you should think about "Splash". Think you both would really enjoy it!
Billy Idol...guys....checkout...White Wedding!
1. That's the same toy store used in "Home Alone II".
2. "Movie magic" a child getting an apartment in NY City
3. Every time I see baby corn I think of this movie.
4. Elizabeth Perkins could get it.😍😋😈
13:48 I love that the two of you translated this part. I never knew what that guy was saying, but I assumed it was something like that.😆
With confidence "David Bowie!” facepalm heard around the world
I was 16 when this came out and yea NYC back then was less lit with less tourists 😂
so lovely that you took the film on face value - a few other first time youtubers get all stuck up on morality issues with this film but you have to take it as a simple fun story.
you guys watched it perfectly.
oh and what he was eating at the buffet was baby sweetcorn but eating in a way a kid would - nibbling the tiny corns cause that is the wat you would eat normal sweetcorn right? 😁
I love how in every way they thought 'how would a kid approach this?'
great film and one of my all time faves.
Lmao @ David Bowie!!! 🤣😂😂🤣
Billy Idol. :)
Josh's best friend co-stared in "HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS:"
*BJ [rolling his eyes & sighing]:* "Babe... She gave him the 'forehead' kiss."
*Asia [throwing a hand up]:* "Forget it... Cause she done gave him enough..."
🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀 I think a part of me literally died inside at that line, Sis.. Especially with that lil bit of umph & sass at the "GAVE him ENOUGH" parts.. Lmfao. Ya'll two killlll me sometimes..😂❤✌🏻
Great video! By the way, it was Billy Idol. 17:41
BJ: "David Bowie."
Asia: "Yeah..."
Me: 🤣🤣🤣
Yooo!!! I got them confused. I think it was the silver blonde hair!!! 😂 😂 😂
@@ReelinwithAsiaandBJ 😆Understandable lol...
Wow, I forgot about this classic. This one's a good, clean, fun movie.. well, except for the part where they hook up, lol. As an adult looking back now, it's a bit pervy 😂 but they get away with it cause it's done in such an innocent type of way I think 🤔 🤷♀️
Fortune Tellers machines were common at Carnivals!
Yes, that was a baby corn on the cob.
Elizabeth Perkins played Wilma on _The Flintstones_ movie with John Goodman.
"A Man Named Otto"
( this is an adaptation from a book). "Sleepless In Seattle" and "You've Got Mail". ( both are romantic comedies with Meg Ryan". None of these Tom Hanks movies will disappoint.
Love Love Love ❤ l was 11 when Big came out. Always takes me back to that same feeling of wanting to be older. I just didn't know then, how good life really was at 11 years old! 😂
"Freaky Friday" 2003 and the remake "Freaky" 2020
