    One of the biggest crimes in professional sports is the use of steroids and performance-enhancing drugs. Those on the other side don't deny the competitive advantage anabolic steroids give. But they also believe that it doesn't make you an amazing athlete. Those skills are god-given. Louie Simmons biggest issue with the ban on steroids is the hypocritical scapegoating that it gets versus other forms of substance abuse.
    In a world where just about anyone can call themselves a “trainer,” Louie Simmons reigns as the “Godfather” of strength training. As a world-class powerlifter, Louie made a name for himself breaking numerous records and innovating strength through his Eastern-bloc training methodology. His “invite-only” gym in Columbus, Ohio (Westside Barbell) has has become the mecca for elite athletes looking to become the best in the world. But behind this 1,200 square-foot room where elite athletes undergo extraordinary physical transformations lies extreme training and non-stop action with Louie Simmons guiding through it all.
    In our latest story, "State of Strength," we went to Westside Barbell and spent a morning with Louie and his guys training.

    • @JustinMorgan105kg
      @JustinMorgan105kg 7 лет назад +36

      jim jones Back to my original point then, if they don't make you better, then why take them? In clinical studies adult males injected with steroids that didn't lift actually had a net increase in muscle that exceeded adult men that only trained with weights over a 12 week study, so it's technically not even accurate to say that it's all the work, but I would concede that given a longer study the men that were lifting would out perform the men that only took steroids without lifting, and eventually the increase in muscle mass would halt without the stimulation of resistance in the steroid group. And no, I'm not stupid, but the amount of butt hurt coming from you makes me think that you probably use steroids and still suck at lifting so you have to come up with reasons why it's all work for you and your buddies like Jason Blaha.

These bodybuilders and WWF wrestlers dropping dead at age 40 is the exact reason we should keep people off that stuff. When people are on their deathbed due to hypertrophy of the heart or other issues I doubt most would look back and say it was worth it

It wasn't the same as it is today, of course, because back then you only had access to testosterone and then later Dbol. But that stuff's been around for decades upon decades. We just never thought it was "cheating" until the propaganda of the 1980s. It's no different than the "reefer madness" of the 1930s. Or prohibition in the 1920s. Propaganda against something people in the general population just do not understand.

    I remember pondering about whether Michael Jordan used steroids and people got so freaking defensive. It wouldn't surprise me. Endurance athletes in the Olympics have been being caught since the late 80s. But at the end of the day, only he himself would know. It doesn't take away even a bit from how great of a player he was.

    I like Louie and even use some of his training techniques, so I hate to hear him making statements like this that are an outright lie, "Roids don't make you any better, you gotta have it up here." Roids make you enormously better, and FAST.
    I used to train regularly with a 32 year old guy, who was so absolutely pathetic that he wasn't able to achieve more than a 215 lb flabby physique and bench 315 lbs naturally. That's after many years of training. Then he magically jumped to a well over 400 lb bench within 5 months of using roids, and not only gained 35 lbs of solid muscle but actually dropped 5% of his original bodyfat percentage. That same guy after 5 years of training on roids and then adding hgh hit a bodyweight of 320 lbs. He now benches over 525 lbs, and can squat mid 700s....keep in mind he trains like a bodybuilder, not a powerlifter or those numbers would be higher. This is a guy who was so weak naturally that I had basically stopped training with him....not just weak in the body but weak willed as well. He wasn't genetically gifted and didn't have a strong mind.
    This is just one personal example. I've seen this same "magic" dozens of times in my 24 years of lifting with local people that I actually new and trained with. It's not unusual at all for guys who couldn't gain shit naturally to jump to 250 to 300lb physiques, and actually drop bodyfat % while doing it. Steroids (and HGH) can literally turn you into a completely different person - and a completely different athlete. It's just ridiculous for anybody to claim otherwise, or to claim that it isn't cheating when used in a sport that has banned it's use.

    • @KongLuvs
      @KongLuvs 8 лет назад +2

      +elmohasaposse He's still lying through his teeth, or delusional if that's what he means. Steroids don't just change the body, they change the mind as well. I know Louie knows that, too, because I've heard him say it in other videos. It's common knowledge. It's not unusual for these guys to be walking around with over 40 times the amount of testosterone in their bodies as a natural man. Heavy users can have upwards of 100 times. If you haven't personally observed the effect of steroids on a person's mindset (mindset of a winner as you called it) than you haven't been training very long, or you use yourself and are in denial. The effects are night and day.
      If for no other reason than their widespread use in contact sports, steroids need to be criminalized. (And by widespread, I don't just mean pro sports, but kids all the way down to junior high age.)

      +Andrew Lipham I specifically used that guy as an example because of his advanced age (32) when he began using (he couldn't afford the drugs until then). This was to help illuminate the fact that he never gained diddly shit naturally, despite training regularly throughout his 20s.
      Not only was he too old to refine his physique for bodybuilding, he never had any desire to compete. He only trained to have as much muscle as he could possibly acquire --- most gym rats are just like him.
      But none of that changes the fact that steroids and later growth hormone completely altered that guy, and numerous others I've seen, in both body and mind. Not winning titles when they never even wanted to compete doesn't mean shit. We're talking about performance enhancement here, and how effective it is, not about competing for titles. Steroids took him from what was essentially a sissy, to a fuckin' monster....there just isn't any other way to slice that shit-up. This isn't some random freak occurrence either, that only I have witnessed, it's everyday shit, in any decent gym, anywhere in the country.

No different from women taking hormone treatments. I've cycled Test Cypionate for 15 years, and my get full check ups with blood work twice a year, and always comes back great. I do it responsibly, not to get "jacked", but to reverse the aging process as much as possible, and it works! For all the 20 somethings that want to negatively comment, just remember, I thought my body would stay the same since I was in good shape and led a very active lifestyle. But all those wipe outs surfing, crashes when skateboarding pools & parks, and years of playing football catch up with you. I've maintained my waist size (34") for over 30 years, lift the same if not heavier than I did when I was in my 20s, and my body recovers that much quicker. Some people are organically genetically gifted more than others. Thing is with steroids some people have access to the better quality versions and certain people are being scammed out of fraudulent quality.

    this guy and his justification for using what he obviously sees as cheating. its cheating because its against the rules ya dingus. if they said you can use steroids then it wouldn't be cheating. whatever he has to tell himself to not feel like a cheater.

    Sad advice and poor excuses for using drugs because a person can't cut it on their own gifts and abilities. 👎

    I like Louie but abit deluded wen it comes to to a steroid discussion. It's an American way of thinking that you need to win at all costs even if it means taking drugs etc.

      Strengthletics if you dream about putting a needle just to achieve a dream you are a mental midgit. Just do the best you an your body can do. Only in America is it accepted. Certainly isn't in uk

    Steroids are a choice, as simple as that. But you have to surrender tested/natty status to use them. In bodybuilding or untested, go hog-wild.
