Great info!!!! I also would recommend perfecting the flop shot on grass and simply take that technique into the sand. I was taught that way at age 10 and at 65 actually look forward to a sand shot.
First time ive seen this video Chris. Simple no nonsense approach to bunker play, excellent video as per usual working towards the set up rather than dwelling too much on the execution, love it.
Chris, great advice thank you. So difficult for me, but I will go to the practice area today and try this out! Last attempt I made was useless. The challenge is on 🇿🇦
Another great video Chris. On most of the courses I've played on lately if the ball end up in a bunker we take the ball out and place at the face of it. Due to the amount of crap and stones sorry the boulders in there.
Chris, question: at set up you hover the club head quite close to the ball. but you hit the sand perhaps 2 inches or so behind the ball. What are your swing thoughts regarding WHERE you hit the sand? You discussed the club head speed necessary to get the sand out of the bunker, but what about the AMOUNT of sand you need to take? That's the inconsistent part of my bunker play. Thanks, mate. I appreciate the simplicity of this technique.
Hey Chris. Been loving your content! Could you do some videos for players who feel like they got an understanding on the basic shot and would like to add more control to their game. For example, what affects bunker trajectory and spin, pitching spin, shaping shots, etc. Thanks for all the great content! Looking forward to more!
Just subscribed and I have learned a lot and even implemented some of your tips into my game with very good results. The course I play frequently has very tall (6-8ft.) green-side bunkers which I seem to find on a regular basis. Help!
Bravo! Great tips again 🇿🇦 I will put this to the test today at ladies golf at Victoria Country Club in South Africa. A very challenging shot for a beginner
Excellent bro....love bunker shots. This video was spot on. Heavy wet sand changes technique for me as does those under the lip horrors. Well done Chris...
Seconded. Also, what to do on more buried shots. I guess you open the clubface not as much so the leading edge can dig into the ground (which you normally want to avoid)?
Looks good , sounds good . Will give it a try but as you mentioned the sand in that bunker was “good” . It would be nice to see a lesson/instruction from a “naffish” bunker like you find on municipal’s for instance , not all muni’s but you know what I mean
Hey Colin, yeah I’d play it the same with a poor lie, just means I would have to be a little more precise with my entry point, divot depth etc, but I wouldn’t change my technique at all 👍
All fair and well when you get bunkers with soft sand. Unfortunately most of the courses i get to play don't have soft sand. Most are hard and club bounces and thins the ball and you end up playing again from bunker or 50 yards ovwr green on opposite side. How do you get out of these bunkers?
I suppose I am getting like a stalker now Chris but after my practice session today in Spain in a bunker with a five foot lip I can only say a massive thank you. Using all techniques I now have my only video that proves what you state works.
@@ChrisRyanGolf I guess more for amateurs but a rule of thumb for club selection when chipping. Where the distance to the landing area onto the green is estimated for example at 3yds, then the remaining roll to the hole is 9yds. You would figure how many segments of the original dist to landing area divide into the rollout and subtract from 12 to get the club. So 12-3= 9 iron. Sounds complicated but ive heard it is fairly accurate. Was wondering if you've heard of this or had any faith in such a thing. Thanks for asking.
How would you play it if the trap is almost as hard as cement I was in a trap like that this morning the club just bounced off and sculled the ball I wasn't even making foot prints in the trap that's how hard the sand was
been practicing Bunker a lot of late, today, the first 18 Balls were kind of bad, didn't quite get to the green (but the green was about 12m Away) and I shanked a couple too, the next set of 18 Balls (rounf 2) absolutlely perfect all up by the pin (about 15m away) ok, shanked a couple still) 3rd round, complete shyte, don't know why, and this is where you need someone by your side to tell you whats going on or what's not going on. I'll keep plugging away until I nail this shot from the sand. (11,3 handicapper ... which means nothing really)
Probably be the case for many, has to begin in practice, if you start to see the ball coming out each time the confidence grows and the fear goes away, can take time though 👍

Grass is not sand
@@touristguy87 and sand is not grass😂

Thanks Jason and these will continue where there are stages of steps to follow 👍
A nice simple explanation, with a great mental image and no technical details. I was always told to aim left out of bunkers - when did that change?
What a great way of thinking about this shot. Thanks.

Thx. I like the simple explanation. Sand out on the green! Nice.
Thanks 👍
I have been using this for years. Great concept and video.
Great one Chris. The simpler the better!

That’s often the case, bunkers can be very poor at certain courses, seen too many clubs damaged from poor bunkers
Excellent video. Thanks Chris
Would love a bunker tutorial of bunker shots with hard compact (wet) sand!

This is REALLY good I was in multiple bunkers yesterday and this technique worked flawlessly (similar lies to the video).

Great content Chris Thanks I needed this one.
Good lesson. That’s how I play mine.
TBF you did have a perfect lie though there.
Would you say that even with bad lies that that is a good approach?

That’s great Brian 👍
Cheers Chris. Good idea mate, forget about the ball 👍👍👍👍
Works for me...How about the rule of 12 for pitching & chipping onto the greens. I'm going to keep asking until you go do some content on it. Lol
Thanks, not too sure what the rule of 12 is? Can you elaborate? 👍

Oh so timely, is the 10% the wet sand bunkers?
It looks sooo easy, but is very difficult.
My club goes under the ball and doesn't leave the bunker. I swing extremely hard and I open the club face with a full swing.

Great video as always! For a future vid, could you go over how to play a downhill bunker shot?
How?! Why dont you teachers talk of how to do something? Most of us hit the ball thin or too far behind....
Hey Chris, where's the "what's in the bag" !!??
Hi Robert, it has been filmed, so just need to edit it and get it uploaded, shrouding be too long 👍
👍
Hit the ball out
I‘m just like Anakin, I don‘t like sand...
The main problem I have with bunker shots is fear. I'm just afraid to hit it. Of course that is my problem with a lot of shots.
Probably be the case for many, has to begin in practice, if you start to see the ball coming out each time the confidence grows and the fear goes away, can take time though 👍
Yea some times it works and sometimes i hit it way over the green and into the bunker on the other side haha
You earned this like and sub lol
Thanks Kerry
