I so very much love The Verve Pipe's music - I play guitar and sing and have covered quite a number of their hits along the way...so many open, vulnerable stories in them! That said, I heard this song again a few days ago, the day I found out my 28 yr old son had passed away. His name is Gray and he was so very, very colourful in my life and in the lives of those that knew him. I've sobbed like a grieving father through repeat playings of it since Wednesday and it has helped me immensely. I know I have to cry - a LOT - and music has always been my doctor (DB), so it's my therapy right now. Thank you for this one, Brian Vander Ark, it is seriously helping me through an unimaginable time.

The first time I heard this song, it resonated with me. I started singing it to my children when I put them to sleep, and this routine carried on, every night, for several years. It started with my son, who was seven when Rockstar came out, and then eventually my daughter (two years younger) started asking for it as well. They would both ask me to sing them the "storybook" song. Within the first couple of lines, my son, in a very Pavlovian way, would start to yawn, like clockwork. LOL. Thank you for this beautiful melody that played a big part in our lives.
