    Tips: #1 Get yourself some airbrush lubricant like Badger's Regdab needle juice, but it on your fingers and lubricate your needle out of your airbrush after or before every use, then with your fingers still covered rub them around inside the airbrush paint cup before returning the needle and setting up for use. This will reduce the chances of paint getting a foothold on these parts, some will still happen, but will come off more easily and will not aversely affect your paint job. The lube in the paint resevoir will make it easier to remove the paint that clings to the sides. It will also remove unseen paint or primer a lot of the time when you do it.
    Tips: #2 Have yourself a bit of plain paper or card, or even better plasticard (as you can re-use this) to test your paint consistency for airbrushing, your compressor pressure and your own technique to ensure that even before paint touches model; your paint, your air pressure and your technique are on point for doing a good job. As you paint with the airbrush, anytime you leave the airbrush for a time or suspect paint may be drying on the tip you can take action to unscrew the crown (just the crown, don't want any leaks) and either with a toothbrush like Kenny here or with your gloved or bare thumbnail just gently rub off any paint that might have gathered on the needle only. Don't remove the needle from the airbrush with paint in it, just the crown and just clean the needle. Then screw the crown back in place, do a few test sprays on your paper/card/plasticard and once you're happy continue painting.
    Tips: #3 Sometimes a block may just be forming, or may only be a minor blockage, you can clear these with Tip #2's paper/card/plasticard by just pulling the trigger right back and blasting it on full, a few brief presses and then just air alone after. If you have air bubbling up through your paint cup after that, you still have a blockage and you will need to deal with it. Sometimes you may find the nut at the back of the airbrush, which is usually covered and which holds the needly might need to be tightened up or has come loose or wasn't tight enough, that can also cause this bubbling. just make sure the needle is in the right position and tighten it up. Caution though, don't tighten it too much, just enough that it isn't loose and easy to turn.
    Something for cleaning the nozzle, the pipe cleaner like tools sold for cleaning airbrushes can be kind of abrasive (sometimes a good thing) but they can also make you need replacement parts sooner because they are so rough. A better tool for cleaning those parts are interdental brushes that you can buy at drug stores, dentists and supermarkets (as well as off of ebay and online of course). These are finer, softer brushes that can do the job better and often even come with a little cap to keep any paint spill or airbrush overspray off of them ( happens to all of us ;) ).
    Great Video Kenny o7 Keep up the good work!

      Always happy to share what I've learned. : )
      Quick Tip: Blu Tac / Poster Putty - Hold your paper/card/plasticard down from Tip #2. Hold down a miniature you're painting. Use it to mask camo stripes on vehicles. You can even use it to suck up paint flakes about the place if you're nervous of them getting blown on to drying models.
      Keep Calm, (all your airbrush issues are fixable) and Carry on painting all.

      lunahula nice one dawg! got to agree with you about those pipe cleaning brushes as they can permanently damage the track leading from the colour cup to the technical bizz at the tip and if that gets jizzed up the airbrush is pooped permanently, the manufacturer won't fix this for free either they can't as these little brushes damage the internal diameter - I found this out the hard way and had to buy a new brush, since I seased using those damn brushes I have had no issue with my ab apart from a slight block & rarely at that, best advice I got and used always shoot cleaner thru your brush, if your changing color shoot cleaner, if your using the same colour over and over shoot cleaner thru after every third or even second fill if it's a high viscosity paint and stop it drying out, shoot cleaner, going out for a smoke- shoot cleaner, taking a whizz- shoot cleaner, moral of story shoot cleaner thru your brush all the time,never allow paint to sit in the brush and I know a lot if pros use those fkn mini airbrush cleaning brushes but like I said they destroyed my Krome, all I have of it now is the parts I can use if anything goes wrong with my new Krome. Hope this helps someone save themselves from disaster, easy fix SHOOT CLEANER AVOID AB CLEANING BRUSHES

    • @lunahula
      @lunahula 7 лет назад +4

      Yeah it's one of those hidden traps in airbrushing, that you see these collections of brushes specifically for cleaning airbrushes online, whether it's Amazon, Ebay or anywhere, even in an actual airbrush store. Those brushes can be a ticking time bomb on the life of your key airbrush parts. Particularly because when you are new you wont know how much force to apply, you go in too strong and think 'wow this is wonderful it takes it right out, I didn't even need cleaner!' the first few times, then you forget about it and do it everytime until you start hitting problems.
      The great thing about the interdental brushes, is that these days you can pick them up affordably all over the place and best of all they will tell you the brush diameter in 0.XXmm on each type, so you can pick the brush width to suit your specific airbrush parts everytime. Hey if it's good enough for your teeth and gum longevity, it's just as good for having your airbrush parts last. :)

    • @HiveMind3006
      @HiveMind3006 7 лет назад +3

      I shall have to pick up some of these lill' brushes, they sound great and if they are plastic or similar they won't damage the brass. Yea man a good indicator that they are gentle or else there would be a lot of bleeding gum disorders haha, I spent over an hour slowly picking out a blockage in my tip (eesh sounds nasty assed) I had a look at the clump of shit that fell out thru my macro lens and holy shit there was
      snapped off bristles and crumbs of old paint all chewed up together in this little pellet of crud, thing is it still had flow so it was working but I could tell something wasnt right and eventually figured out it was a clog in the tip, after I removed it it was like having a brand new airbrush again- that was on my Patriot 105 which has a massive tip in comparison to some ab's, they say you learn from your mistakes huh so if thats the case I should be a master but being self taught I am still very much learning from day to day. Videos like these are an amazing resource for guys like me who don't have buddies who are into the airbrush so no real folks to learn and share with. Anyways thanks for all the advice.

    I just started airbrushing. Just a suggestion. I use silkscreen mesh and cut a square off and put it on my paints bottle with cap screwed on to sandwich it so it does a paint screening so u can avoid chunks that might try sneaking its way out and in ur cup.

    I have a tip I haven't seen before: Vallejo cleaner is kind of like soap, so you can use it for sticky parts inside of things. My dipstick, or whatever it's called under the trigger, was sticking bad so the air wouldn't stop. A few shots of that cleaner and a quick scrub with a pipe cleaner left it perfect.

    I hated airbrushing at first. I had a used neo that clogged constantly. Then i dropped out on an eclipse and the vallejo game air line. Now I'm gangster as fuck.

    • @Xaltotun
      @Xaltotun 7 лет назад +3

      I'm doing great with a Neo, using water+flow improver for air paints, and water+thinner+flow improver for non-air paints like citadel, normal vallejo/army painter. I'm pretty noob with airbrush though, using it mainly for skin, priming, preshading, and blends for things like "power weapons" and osl.

    • @Drizzleize
      @Drizzleize 7 лет назад +2

      I think the used Neo needs some of the love from this video, but this eclipse is so dynamic that I'd only use the neo for auto body and stuff now. I pre-mixed some citadel paints to better effect than cup mixing, unless you're an OG, it's easy to go too wet or dry with the Neo, but I get away with it on the Eclipse just fine. The build of the eclipse allows for a lot more cleaning and easy priming as he shows here.

    • @Mikey__R
      @Mikey__R 7 лет назад

      I love my Eclipse, even if I still do screw up from time to time. Last night the needle came loose and backed itself out, so I was spraying at full throttle when I just pressed down for air. No damage done though, I was spraying the undercoat on a tank in prep for chipping fluid.

    Now questions...
    1 do you of such a color already available or will I need to go again very creative and do mixtures...
    2 what about masking on finished surfaces to paint specific áreas. Is there any special paint you know it won't be affected or the regular Blue masking tape should do just fine?

    I knew this was going to be the biggest pain in the ass of airbrushing, but it still got me. I'm even a pro house painter, so I'm very familiar with the practice of cleaning out a sprayer thoroughly every time I use it. But I'm learning that airbrushes require an extra layer of care that's usually optional with an airless sprayer. With an airless, you can get by with just flushing it with water really good 90% of the time. Don't have to take the gun apart every time, only need things like lube and storage oil if you're not going to be using it soon (although it's still smart to use some throat seal lube more often). With an airbrush, you just gotta do all that stuff between each use. Lesson learned, I got this.

  • @LarrylCutz

    If you own these, try not to use alcohol as much for the " cleaner ". After a day of use, & its time to clean it, hold down on the spray as you refill the cap with water ( 3+ full caps Of water aka 3 cycles ). This should help get the paint out, but will still have paint inside. When you run it through with alcohol, the alcohol dries out the leftover paint inside. Over time or even within a day, it'll clogged.
    Instead of using alcohol, I just spent the couple $ to buy " airbrush cleaner fluid ". ALSO, when you take it apart and clean it, for some reason if you try to spray and nothing comes out, try playing with the tip of the nozzle in the front where the paint dispenses.
    ( as you spray , loosen/tighten the front nozzle until you see it disperse paint )
    Took me days of trying to figure this solution out & almost going on to buying my 2nd replacement until I figured it out. Hope this helps anyone with a cordless airbrush.

    I recently had a clog that bad I could not even pull the needle out but a few blasts of premi-air foaming airbrush cleaner taking the nozzle out and just unclogging everything it worked again. There were actually solid chunks of things on the needle. Guess I did not clean it well after doing some priming, seemed that primer and tiny bits of cotton from cotton swabs had joined forces to destroy me ha ha. I have the same airbrush as you, however, it is still quite new and shiny, whereas yours as a lovely lived in appearance. The nozzle tip and needle look bigger than mine though, are you using the 0.5mm. Did you find it better than the 0-35mm? Just curious as to the reasons for using the bigger one in the interest of learning about airbrushes.

      Geteav Nroc - I would personally recommend it. I found that I have far less issues with clogging and the paint thickening in the hopper when I use flow improver.

    i have an Iwata HP CS Eclipse and im about to tear my hair out. ive cleaned it and cleaned it and now am soaking every piece of it. The issue i am having is the airbrush shooting paint before i pull back on the trigger. No idea why this would happen but this airbrush is pretty much brand new ive only used it once and it went well cleaned it and put it away and now about 2 weeks later its doing this and its maddening sorry if its a dumb thing im forgetting or something just frustrated as it was 200 bones lol need it to work

      is the needle all the way in? That is the behavior of an airbrush that has the neddle backed out a bit.

      Is that a Model Air color? I find that I dont need anything with the model air but their regular model color you need to thin down heavily!

    • @kairus1
      @kairus1 5 лет назад

      yea its model air metallic (arctic blue)the airbrush wouldn't work. spit bursts sometimes.

      @@kairus1 Maybe cause its metallic? IDK Im no paint expert. All paints will clog at some point. Like the Vallejo Preminum black I can work forever with before it starts clogging. Maybe your PSI is too low or too high?

    • @kairus1
      @kairus1 5 лет назад

      yea i was thinking the same metallic. i did pump the psi really high thats when airbrush would spatter. the only thing i didnt do was push back the needle to blow out the paint. and then spray. next time ill try that. @@Adol666

    Its tough when you're super new to airbrushing, and you have no frame of reference for what's good or bad.
    For example, my compressor doesn't allow a steady spray. I have to wait a second if it stops and it starts again.
    Sometimes airs coming through, but no paint. Shit is tough to get used to. I'm sick with a brush tho

    • @Warchief1521
      @Warchief1521 5 лет назад

      does your compressor have a tank? A tank will prevent that problem afaik

    Hey Kenny B! I have a airbrush question for ya.
    So my brush shoots really well but I get speckling around where I shouldn't be getting speckling that is there a way to fix that problem? For example if I'm trying to get all super technical with my airbrush and I'm spraying with light air and everything is going on fine but and then I'm getting speckling around paint dots and makes it rough to get clean work.

    • @joshfoss7407
      @joshfoss7407 4 года назад +1

      speckling happens when the paint is too thick for the air pressure. Fix one of those things

    New to this shit. Badger Patriot 105. The needle sticks out past the tip. Is that supposed to be that way?

    • @jameshiers9679
      @jameshiers9679 6 лет назад

      Yup (I have one -- it's what I started with, and is a workhorse). Just be careful not to bend the tip, which is easier to do since it sticks out. Cheers!
