Thanks for the tips. Will save me a lot of time cleaning between colors from now on. And especially liked how you stored the airbrush in the cleaner/water mug in the end. Will try that out!
There's how you're taught to do it, and there's how you do it so you get a good job done in a good time. You very generously gave us a shortcut to the real life technique. Much thanks and respect to you.
I knew about the backflow for mixing but never thought of pouring the leftover mixture back. Also, that tip for storing the airbrush without having to fully clean it is gold, thanks!
I've been solidly an enamel painter for smaller scale stuff for years, but I married a Warmachine/Warhammer 40k player and I'm really starting to see how acrylics are the way to go for speed. Even if I could use these same techniques on enamels, I could NEVER keep my Iwata Eclipse so clean so easily. Not to mention I think it's a bit safer for you to inhale! Thanks for the vid; as I've started doing commission pieces now, any part of speeding up the process while keeping quality high is a serious bonus in my book!
Thank you for making this video...5 years later it's still helpful 🤗😀 I'm not an artist just want to try airbrushing with some of my projects for Halloween, Christmas and maybe some other crafts. This was Awesome for me,now I can go experiment with confidence and save this video 😆 Thanks again 😊❤👏🏾👏🏾
I just bought some merch form you single handled by this video. This is the best info I have found surfing info about airbrushing. Keep up the Great work!
Nice tips iv just started Airbrushing and been trying to learn methods that speed things up and help, this video alone will make my Airbrushing life 100% more fun.
Hey man just wanted to say your content has already helped me so much in the time I have gotten my air brush, you speak in lamens terms and don't give bullshit in your videos! Your techniques are easy to understand and turn out beautifully, thanks for the inspiration and keep making great gangsta painted models.
Really helpful vid. I will definitely be adding those tricks to my airbrush routine. I have been using flow aid from the get go, just never thought to create a pocket of it in the bowl first --- I mix it with paint, then pour over. This is going to save so much time.
I'm just getting into my first ever Airbrushing tonight, this video helped a lot! Easy explanations but still addressing the core of it! Thanks, keep em coming!
Thank you. I don't own an airbrush as I am afraid it will become another of those things that i buy , use for a bit, then it sits, but I really want to repaint some of my masterpiece collectibles using these methods.
Good to know that I’m not the only one who leaves the AB in a cleaning glass after use. I have a tone of plastic beaker lab bottles and my AB lives in one.
WRustyLane: I have two airbrushes--one cheapo Chinese Harbour Freight one and a Badger 155 Anthem. I like my Badger Anthem 155 better than the Chinese knock off. I found that the cheapo HF one can use the trigger and back rocker from my Badger 155 Anthem. So I ordered those two parts for the cheapo since I broke the trigger and bent the back rocker and put them into the cheapo. I modified the trigger a bit but took too much off the bottom of the trigger and found out that I needed to take some metal off the bottom of the inside hole where the needle goes through. Now I've got to get another Badger trigger to go in the cheapo. Trial and error.
This was absolutely amazing. I'm finally taking the plunge and learning to airbrush after years of just brush painting. Thank you so much for making this incredibly useful video. You really helped take some of the apprehension out of learning a new technique :)
Yo Dawg! Got my Eclipse tonight fing loving using your system, man it made it so simple. Something like base coats with highlights was taking me hours (not minatures). Knocked it out in 30 mins! ty bro seriously
OK I could have stopped at 4:00 and learned something new ,,using backflow to mix WHY didn't I think of that? At the end of the day the minute amount of paint dumped back versus dumping more on top and blowing it out makes a LOT of sense
Great tutorial... You didn't rush anything... you explained in great detail... YOU are the Man!!! Thank you so much for sharing your great knowledge... from one teacher to another... ;)
wow u are probably the most helpfull person on yourube about air brush stuffs, like really other guys tell me things i already know and then u, well u have a bucket by your feet, "brilliant"👍
Solid tips and techniques, but tbh I wouldn't really call any of these "hacks". And these aren't exactly new or revolutionary, either. Doesn't diminish their usefulness one bit, though. Good stuff for beginners. But one thing I have disagree on is pouring thinned leftover paint back into the pot. That'll spoil the original paint in the pot sooner or later. To what degree the paint's characteristics will suffer depends on the brand and what they were thinned with, but mixing the thinned paint back in won't be improving them.
Should be noted leaving your airbrush soaking in airbrush cleaner or other solvents could potentially degrade the o-rings over time. Iwata airbrushes don't have them in the tip, though, so what you're doing is probably fine with them as long as you're not totally submersing them so it gets up into the body.
In my opinion it is not a good tip, airbrush cleaners are powerful solvents and laying youre airbrush or airbrush parts in it will damadge/destroy youre airbrush. I dont understand why anyone would do it, especially not for many hours.
I have a question can you actually tell if the paint is thin enough to be sprayed by the way it percolates in the pot or the amount of Bubbles you're seeing? I think I just found out a hack on paint Viscosity. At 6:42 You can actually see how it doesn't bubble and then he adds some more water to it . Gonna try it out
Thanks for this. I have two cheap air brush guns. One I bought off Ebay for £10, and the other came free with my compressor. Do you think I should get a more expensive one like a iwata or some other brand, or do you think I can still get a decent enough job with cheap ones?
this is probably the most amazing and best video I've seen so far. Just subscribed and I'll be checking out the rest of your videos since I'm looking to buy an airbrush soon. I wanna try something other than just brushes for painting figures and stuff. Now I just gotta figure out what model airbrush would be best for me to pick.
I really like how you keep your videos real...most other videos I watch keep it clean but you talk like I do..."This container by my feet, this is what I use to put all my shit in" Excellent work man, keep it up!
I just got my first airbrush. I love the tip about the cup of water especially as all the videos I have seen go over a really lengthy process for cleaning the damn thing. This might show my ignorance, but is there no worry about rusting? Also, is there a point that the water could go too high on the airbrush and damage anything? Like I assume water level should be below the plunger? Thanks so much for the video. :)
Awesome video and advice, brand new to airbrushing and its a little intimidating so I am glad to get protips in such an easy and quick way. Thank you. Subbed!
Hi NLP, I've been using the Golden Airbrush thinner + GW paint + water. I can kind of get it working but I'm not sure if the Golden brand is really good for miniatures. Do you have any tips for that brand? Or do I need to use Vallejo?
Hi I just have a question on my airbrush manual it says NEVER SOAK THE ENTIRE AIRBRUSH IN CLEANING SOLUTION I watched your video your a pro just wanted to know is there o-rings or something that can can damaged are they talking about a non water based paint any help would be lovely you're awesome love your videos
I really liked this video man! Ive only used the airbrush for a short while but this added new ways of basic utilities to my list. However I do have one thing to ask and that is how do you handle the smell of paint that airbrush creates from spraying paints and cleaner? I use it in a small 9x10 room and during the winter like now I dont have my window open to allow ventilation. Is there a good way to vent a inclosed space?
Hey dude, quick question, how much mixed paint would you be expecting to use base coating minis? Example: I just got my airbrush, and started trying to base coat some stormcast eternals liberators. I used at least 20+ drops of paint and the same again in water and only coated 2 properly and 2 with light coats that need gone over again. I was using army painter hydra turquoise on top of citadel chaos black primer. Thanks in advance, and shout out from England! Take it easy man.
Hello dear artist!!! I have a problem with my iwata eclipse HP-CS 0.35mm, when i press down ONLY for air a small amount of paint comes out!!! The air cap and head assembly are well at their posisition, what can go wrong? My needle is not bend , only thing i can think of is about my nozzle but at a first glance seems to be ok and clean
I need to get an airbrush so bad! Any recommendations of cheap starter air brush set ups (brush, compressor, etc?) I'll be jumping in your patreon supporters in June!
Iwata HP-CS and badger compressor. Home depot/walmart carry pressure gauges with flow control on the cheap. If you're not into spending huge on compressors, look for used and some stores carry them cheap since they're hard to move.
May i ask the brands of your paints ? Do they have the same formula as Vallejo's ? Can we simply use these techniques with Vallejo paints as well ? By the way, as far as i experienced, Flow Improver and Airbrush Cleaner of Vallejo are both same products. What do you think of that ?
I've got one of these mate. £50 I think. to replace my budget pile of junk that clogged and died in no time! Great brush. Easy to control, multiple size cups, plus you can remove the cup altogether and just get a few drops in the opening. Also its piece of cake to clean, if you pull it apart, the spring clip behind the trigger is connected to the piece that holds it in place, meaning its not fiddly to put back together again. Really reccomend as a low budget brush but its still got the quality name to it. Hope this helps.
+thejonsonator . Cheers for the info dude . My current airbrush is cheap and nasty so wanting a new one to up my game but money is tight so need a cheap solution . Thanks again my friend
+Paul O,Sullivan No worries, I was in the same boat as you. Best thing I did was upgrade to this. Don't think this thing is budget (although for iwata it is) cos its a great brush. Get one soon and you'll wish you had it sooner!

Thank you for a great video. Checking out thelongwar today. One question, you say the video is in realtime. But how is the paint able to dry inbetween the layers? Ive always wondered in all the tutorials where you guys mix a little lighter paint in the cup and then contiue. If youve done a video please link and Ill watch it:)
hello Kenny. Just have one question. What PSI did you use on that guy (I know it depends on the distance to your model and the purpose you use your airbrush for, like base coating or painting the details). Thanks a lot for your time and keep up the great work!
Thanks for the tips. Will save me a lot of time cleaning between colors from now on. And especially liked how you stored the airbrush in the cleaner/water mug in the end. Will try that out!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that does their bubbling trick to mix stuff
The Flow Improver definitely is a game changer. It works really good with alcohol based acrylics such as MR. Hobby. Thanks!
There's how you're taught to do it, and there's how you do it so you get a good job done in a good time. You very generously gave us a shortcut to the real life technique. Much thanks and respect to you.

By the way, I love your airbrush storing hack. Never would've thought of that myself.
:)
Wont that rust the airbrush over time?
Jose - same!
@@digivagrant If your airbrush is going to rust dude it is a heap of crap, get a real airbrush that doesn't.
@Itachirevived Airbrushes are usually chrome plated brass.
I particularly love the shot glass at the end!

Loving the idea of storing the airbrush in a water/cleaner mix. Will have to "borrow" that technique.
+Neil Burrell It is clutch

You've Bob Ross'ed my skill in airbrushing something crazy. The difference between my first paint job to now is night and day. Can't thank you enough.
Too kind
This video just made my day. Hadn't considered the mix transitions before or dumping it back in the pot. Thank you 👍
I'm just getting into my first ever Airbrushing tonight, this video helped a lot! Easy explanations but still addressing the core of it! Thanks, keep em coming!
Amazing video, Kenny! Made me realize that I've been wasting so much time completely flushing out each color. Game changer!
LITERALLY the best basic hacks in the country!!

Good to know that I’m not the only one who leaves the AB in a cleaning glass after use. I have a tone of plastic beaker lab bottles and my AB lives in one.
I would not do that as the solvent over time could damadge the airbrush or the parts inside.

Oddly enough it seems to work well for him. Perhaps your techniques are different. Go back and review the video and see where you went wrong.
Thanks for giving me confidence to keep using the air brush dawg
always brother
you could use contact lense cases instead of bottle caps for storing leftover paint.
That ghoul looks pretty sick!
That was Literally a great video. can't wait to see more
percolating sends paint to the airbrushes body . if you like that thats cool.
Awesome hack! Thanks for sharing...perfect timing as I'm having issues with my brush.
Love this guy. Percolate that gumbo my brother....percolate it. Seriously helpful. Thanks m'dude.
These videos are great. Good content delivered in an attention grabbing manner.
Any advise for g shock band and bezel airbrush.
1. What type paint need to you?
2. What type primer?

meh its a tough old brush
For the really cheap airbrushes over a period of a year or 2 it might be a problem.
Great video, this had me sub fast.
Do you leave the needle in when you store it overnight?
This guy cuts a mean WWE promo!
Totally new to this...but isnt this what reducer is used for? or are the flow improver and reducer very similar to one another?
Awesome video and advice, brand new to airbrushing and its a little intimidating so I am glad to get protips in such an easy and quick way. Thank you. Subbed!
I am glad to help brother!
Airbrush thinner and flow improver the same thing or?
Hi NLP,
I've been using the Golden Airbrush thinner + GW paint + water. I can kind of get it working but I'm not sure if the Golden brand is really good for miniatures. Do you have any tips for that brand? Or do I need to use Vallejo?

Some greats tips. Can you give any advice on finding the right PSI to be shooting at?
22ish
What psi are you normally at? High or low? My compressor doesn’t tell me what psi I’m at exactly
What an amazing video! Thank you for sharing!

What the heck this is a super helpful video
Hi Kenny! Thanks for all the videos, your lessons are really helping me learn airbrushing. One question, what PSI do you tend to hang out at?
Hey dude, quick question, how much mixed paint would you be expecting to use base coating minis? Example: I just got my airbrush, and started trying to base coat some stormcast eternals liberators. I used at least 20+ drops of paint and the same again in water and only coated 2 properly and 2 with light coats that need gone over again.
I was using army painter hydra turquoise on top of citadel chaos black primer.
Thanks in advance, and shout out from England! Take it easy man.
+daryl stoker black primer always makes the paint less effective. Try grey
+Next Level Painting cheers lad
Thank you Sir!
In general, when working on building up the transitions do you prefer to have the previous layer still wet or dry?
Does your needle not get stuck when you pull it in and out? That’s how I broke mine
Pull the needle out the front and reinsert it the same way. Prevents needle damage.
Sprayed some green slime after watching this,Truly amazing thankyou
have subscribed

Thanks man

Iwata HP-CS and badger compressor. Home depot/walmart carry pressure gauges with flow control on the cheap. If you're not into spending huge on compressors, look for used and some stores carry them cheap since they're hard to move.
Hey Kenny, is there much of a difference between "flow improver " and " airbrush thinner" ? I currently use Vallejo airbrush thinner 71.161.
+Gary S Yes, the flower improver is also slows the dry time....which is crucial for smooth transitions.
May i ask the brands of your paints ? Do they have the same formula as Vallejo's ? Can we simply use these techniques with Vallejo paints as well ?
By the way, as far as i experienced, Flow Improver and Airbrush Cleaner of Vallejo are both same products. What do you think of that ?
do you mean thinner? thinner makes the paint dry faster. which i hate. yes this applies to all paints.
Great video as usual Kenny
Thank you! Very helpful.
i like your tutorials alot. nice work there
So you can can use normal acrylic paint with flow improver and water
yes sir
Awesome tutorial as usual kenny . Are neo for iwata airbrushes a good starter airbrush for someone on a tight budget ?
I've got one of these mate. £50 I think. to replace my budget pile of junk that clogged and died in no time! Great brush.
