as someone who learned spanish for years in school and still isn't able to speak fluently i appreciate this a lot, your channel truly motivates me to get better and not give up on it
I honestly subbed as soon as I heard she was going to share some faith based resources. I was curious to find a video talking about the best resources on RUclips to learn Spanish because I saw a video recently on the best resources to learn American Sign language (the only other language I have ever learned besides English). I have always wanted to practice both more as well as relearn a bit because I haven't practiced in a while. RUclips suggested Emi's Language Transfer video and then out of curiosity I went to her main channel scrolled her videos and saw this one and I am just amazed by the faith based sharing at the end because I am also Christian (and know a few fluent Spanish speakers at my church that I really want to help in the Spanish ministry if I can 😅). Also I am so happy Emi reminded us not to replace the Spanish sermons with the main devotionals because of accidentally making the lesson about learning Spanish instead of learning about God. Sorry for the rant I am just very excited and God has amazing timing
This is great advice! Thank you. You are right about Language Transfer, I had it on my phone and never used it until yesterday. The teacher explains the why and helps the student make connections. I can verify that don't try to combine Bible Study and Spanish Study! However, now I listen to the Spanish Bible on my app and read along just for practice. The narrators are women and have great accents.
Hola. Muchas gracias for the tips you provided. I'm planning to take the DELE B2 exam. I am also a Christian, and praise God that you do not only use this platform to help us with your tips for learning Spanish, but also share your faith. Thank you very much.
I haven’t seen anyone ever compare the pronunciations of Spanish and Japanese, and I totally agree! I learned Spanish first, and it’s been helping me exponentially with Japanese. I’ve said this to people, but I definitely have gotten some odd looks in response.
It's really helpful (and freeing) to me to know that you didn't take physical notes during this process. I find that coming up with a notetaking system can be so incredibly overwhelming, and to see that you were able to gain fluency without obsessively taking notes is amazing! (I am also scarred from my experience of learning French in school. So. Many. Written. Conjugations).
Cannot agree more and personally think Dreaming Spanish is a must. My English learning journey would've been so much easier had I known about those concepts years ago. Trying to learn English traditional way back then I thought "Languages just not my thing". I'm so glad I stumbled on DS early on in my Spanish learning. I was able to reach high intermediate level in about 11 moths. Not easy but by all means doable, just gotta put time and effort into it, day in and day out. Spanish Dict is also great resource to acquire new words. All great tips here.
i’ve been using dreaming spanish since january and i love it so much! my comprehension of spanish has improved so much, i’m almost at level 4. i also really hate super traditional learning, i tried learning spanish that way during 2020 and i got so burned out. i’m so glad i found their channel because they really reignited my love for spanish. i am going to be adding a mix of traditional learning with comprehensible input because i do want to be able to speak and i’m not really able to do that right now. anyway i’m glad dreaming spanish is helpful for you, i know it is for me. i can’t wait to get to a higher level :)
I wanted to say thank you for pointing me to Andres and Mas vida. I am a pastor and just started the Spanish journey. I am listening to a sermon or two a week. Also using dreaming Spanish and Pimsleur. Struggling hard on speaking and recall but recognizing things. I first watched this video months ago. Absolutely love Andres. If for nothing else, thank you for that introduction. Blessings
Those are really good tips 🤩 and on italki I found my first language partner, it helped me a lot with my speaking 🙌🏻 definitely we have to immerse in the language that we're learning
I remember when I was in Japan trying to learn Japanese. I was on my 2nd year in Tokyo and my 5th year of studying Japanese total. The big problem was that Japanese people kept switching to English when I talked because I had an accent. This young dude from Spain came waltzing off the airplane with no studying and a Japanese phrase book and he spoke better Japanese than me from the get go 😂😂. I wanted to just give up.
This a good summary. I have been lax on my practice and fell off. I never finished the language transfer course, and I need to find a new series to watch next. I never got up the nerve to start italki. I know speaking is a huge gap. I however did notice listening skills have gotten better, because I was watching some documentaries that had english subs and I started hearing the spanish works and understood enough to notice the translation wasn't literal and why they chose what they did.
se que vas a entender esto que te escribo, veo tus videos para aprender ingles, tu ingles es muy bueno, aveces me pierdo un poco pero trato de no desesperarme y repetir la parte que no entendí. te mando un saludo
I’m so happy I found your video! It was very informative. I used to speak a lot of Spanish with my Abuela when I was little, but I’ve lost so much comprehension. I want to learn again so I can communicate with my extended family in Spain and for work. You provided the stepping stones for resources that I needed, thank you! I also lit up when you compared Japanese to Spanish. I think you’re right. I’ve listened to a lot of Japanese artists and it’s funny how some pronunciations remind me of Spanish.
I'm currently learning Spanish & Japanese (though not doing very well lol) and your videos give me soooo much motivation. I just want to say thank you and I love how well-spoken and charming you are. You are absolutely amazing😍 Love from Taiwan :)
Thanks for the tips and recourses! I must add, I understand that some people wouldn't need a notebook, but over the years I've noticed I memorize things a loooot better, if I write it down. This just proves different people have different ways of learning 😊
Thanks for sharing your recommendations. My Spanish learning journey started with meeting my wife (native Spanish speaker). Pimsleur (sp?) was the first app I used, followed by Mango Languages' Latin American Spanish. Mango Languages just fit my learning style really well, so for that reason I'm a big fan. Mango says their more comprehensive language courses - Spanish, French, German, etc - will get you all the way through B1 and into B2 level a bit, if you complete all of the lessons. I use a NTV / NLT bilingual Bible. I'm going to pass along your Christian music recommendations to my wife; she listens to a lot of Spanish worship music. I'm now working (slowly - ha, ha) on Danish. SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks for putting faith based sources on your video! I’m learning Spanish in school, but I’m now going to learn it on my own too. One day I’ll be able to speak it. Lol
I love your suggestions for faith-related resources. I, too, use the NTV and listen regularly to Andrés Spyker. By the way, he has published two excellent books, both useful for comprehensible input due to his colloquial writing style.
Loved that you shared some Christian resources. There arent many out there so really appreciate it. I just love your vibe...I subscribed straight after watching just one of your videos 3 days ago. And ive been going through your old ones and love love love ❤
Thank you so much for the tips Emi. I will definitely check your recommendations. And I just want to let you know that I also love Las Chicas del Cable. 😍🥰 I'm on my final season.
I loved this video! Thank you so much for such an in-depth review and also providing Christian resources. Your videos are very inspiring, keep up the amazing work! 😄✨
Hola Emi! Mil gracias por este video! I appreciate the Spotify playlists. They’re great! Also, I like that you included faith based resources. Que Dios te bendiga. 😊
I also use the NTV version. I am doing the three year Bible reading plan with YouVersion in NTV. I listen and read along I the NTV so I have good pronunciation.
Language transfer starts off very strong by massively expanding your Spanish vocabulary in a few minutes. It's a great app just for that, but the grammar is amazing too.
I keep going back to Pimsleur to practice sentence structure. I’m not a beginner by any means, but I do forget exactly how to structure my sentences when I’m still translating some words in my head.
I think a lot in English my husband is Mexican I am mexicana American and sometimes I find it hard to speak it because I think in English a lot . And sometimes when k want to talk I talk with my mom and she says oh esta bien . She is from Michoacán and I never learned it until I became interested in it about 6 years ago. It have bettered but I always trip over my words . but i am willing to learn until becoming perfect ! I understand everything it’s just so hard to speak especially when I have talked English my whole life ! I would only speak English in my house with my sister and never remember speaking with my parents only sometimes . And I kinda have a bit of anger towards them because they never told us to speak Spanish 😢and now that I have my baby I talk to her in Spanish but very bad ! But I speak it everywhere ! what i find difficult is Mexican slang
Thank you so much for the Christian resources! Another amazing group that has music in both spanish and english is Sovereign Grace Music. 100% recommend!
These are great tips thank you! I’m on busuu and I really like it. I don’t want to return to text books, they are so un-motivating for me lol. I think language apps are so convenient bc I can learn on the go. I like to walk on treadmill while i learn. The prob with busuu is I’m learning Spain spanish and the accent annoys me and I don’t want to learn vosotros. I prefer latin amer. but busuu price is really good 👌
I love how when I am looking for resources or information on RUclips that isn’t necessarily Christian related, I still find Christian youtubers for those topics/areas of interest that I want to learn about. It’s awesome because I don’t have to filter through wrong mindsets or wrong thinking patterns, but I know that the person who is giving me this information also has that greater understanding/outlook on the world. I get to build my Christian circle even online🥰❤️
How much vocab did you know before you felt comfortable listening to those podcasts? Did you just listen or did you do active study where you wrote down vocabulary? Sorry if you've delved into this before! I just don't know when to start with podcasts/shows so that'd it'd actually be effective and not just in one ear and out the other. I'm glad you had the foresight and courtesy to leave Christian resources to the end so those of us not interested in them could skip them.
