This is by far the best video of SA from foreigners perspective. Yes, you took a Mikey out of all "strange" things that happen in SA, but in so respectful way. As a foreigner living in SA myself I totally relate to everything you observed about the county. And despite the all problems and irregularities this county is sooooo beautiful and rich with extraordinary, beautiful, funny, good people who are hopefully going to take the country out of the numerous current problems. Not to mention the geographic beauty.
As a resident Capetonian, studying at UCT, this is actually really cool to see. I'm always amazed how other people see our culture😂 And you got it spot on that each region in South Africa has something different to offer. Glad you are enjoying it here with us ous!😁
Great video. I noticed some of the local lingo has rubbed off, you said "yohh". Glad you're enjoying the country. I'm South African and did a solo trip to Tokyo and Osaka for my birthday. Was my bucket list dream trip, exceeded my expectations. Super clean and super safe. Left my cell phone and shopping bag in a sushi bar to run to the ATM, came back and everything was still there Lol.

Regarding purchasing airtime and data, you can do this EASILY via your bank account …keyword is ‘Prepaid’ and access depends on the bank name/type. We love you sooooo much and we accept you as OUR OWN. Your XHOSA NAME IS ‘NOLUTHANDO’ which means LOVING in English.
This was hilarious. RUclips has been recommending many of these videos from people who have come to our country and are sharing their experiences. I always find it fascinating what the international community thinks about our country. I suppose it is a bit like looking at yourself in the mirror and finding joy because you forgot what you look like. I laughed , in recognition I guess, a lot about the bit about the walk, it is so true. Did you know the walk is regional ? I am from Joburg and there is definitely a variation of the same. Whatever brought you here, thank you for coming and embracing our country. You see, you are just like us; finding humour to carry through some of the negative stuff like loadshedding and crime. That is exactly how we cope 🙂 Thank you for your honesty and I hope the rest of your stay is a lot more rewarding than it has already been.
You say 'Ja' a lot. As a South African I find that endearing. I really like the way you describe the culture shocks. I watch a lot of content from Japan so I often wondered how a Japanese person would experience my country, now I know. So glad you love it here.

Speaking of 'Just now' I personally think this is the most versatile thing in South African colloquialisms because it can mean anytime between now and never, and it also has a past tense meaning. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It does have a past tense meaning🤣🤣🤣🤣
I just realised we use now in a 'past' tense too omg what is wrong with us.
Lol eg: they were here just now
😂😂 all the time we use it , so funny.
😂😂😂
This has got to be the best culture shock video of all RUclipsrs from abroad, you nailed all the facts you know exactly what you're talking about and you've only been here 7 months im super impressed you got yourself a subcriber ,not even a single fault information about everything that you mentioned 🙏🙏
Hahahaha appreciate it! I guess I’m surrounded by the right people here hehe
@@emigrace super proud keep up the good we'll support you 🙏🔥if you were in Joburg I would offer you a free tatt as a token of appreciation on behalf of SA🙌
@@emigrace Hello maam, I just want to give you some information. Car guards dont actually guard cars. They are just beggars that the government give jackets so they look professional. Some advice is to try and avoid them as they do nothing and are just a bother. Hope this helps.
I'm a South African and that mugger's walk and loadshedding scene at the stadium got me laughing until my eyes became teary..
🤣🤣🤣
As a South African, I can confirm that you got ur facts CORRECT. I appreciate you trying to pronounce our clicks and tongues and you tried your very best to memorize our languages. I don't normally see these kinds of videos on my fyp and this just made my day.
A new sub indeed❤❤🇿🇦
Your grasp of this diverse country in such a short space of time is astonishing. I'm dead keen to hear what else you have to say.
As a South African in Pretoria, I absolutely loved watching this! Was very lekker! Well done! I think one thing as well that you will notice now during the RWC is the massive love of Rugby. And also the drinking culture. Especially brandy and coke. Buffelsfontein! Also a fun one is all the random stuff you can buy at robots. I love my country! 🤣🤣 never a dull moment!
From all the South African culture shock videos I've seen, this is THE BEST! Thank you for repping us well and your clicks are good
The mugger’s walk is legendary. You know who’s likely to mug you 5 minutes before it happens and you can take countermeasures 😂.. and yes the banter is part of our soul 😩
“Yoh, guys” welcome to South Africa sista 🤣🫶🏼
Is it weird that this makes me feel oddly patriotic 🤣 so cool to see my country through your eyes 😅
As a South African, I loved hearing your perspective on our country❤
Great video. I noticed some of the local lingo has rubbed off, you said "yohh". Glad you're enjoying the country.
I'm South African and did a solo trip to Tokyo and Osaka for my birthday. Was my bucket list dream trip, exceeded my expectations. Super clean and super safe. Left my cell phone and shopping bag in a sushi bar to run to the ATM, came back and everything was still there Lol.
🤍
Hahahaha, glad you could have such a cool trip to Japan, and yeah Japan is really blessed to be so safe :)
Hey bro, currently planning my trip, a bucket list destination as well, can I hit you up for some tips? Wanna do a city and rural area.
@@NhlanhlaMathe sure, drop me your contacts and I’ll hit you up.
As a South African now living in Scotland I loved your video! It makes me miss my people and my country! I also love how you experience it.....
WoW….what a great video! Thank you so much for choosing South Africa as your home. You are so kind and full of life & fun. I really enjoyed this video…very vibrant, exciting with lots of fun.
Oh my word I love my xhosa name!!! ❤️
@@emigraceyah we Noluthando 🎉❤
The mugger's walk had me on the floor😂😂
All that passport privilege and you chose PE?! 😂 glad you’re enjoying yourself and seeing the beauty of SA ❤️
To be fair she could do worse as well, Brakpan im looking at you my friend 😂
PE is a proper yardstick to use for judging South Africa.
Nothing screams the pits like Hillbrow and Yeoville😂
Have you been to PE?
Our city is lekker guys. Come over you will love it
Everyone in SA can speak a minimum of two languages. Its impressive how well this young woman has integrated into Saffa culture.
That is exactly how we cope 🙂
Thank you for your honesty and I hope the rest of your stay is a lot more rewarding than it has already been.
You say 'Ja' a lot. As a South African I find that endearing. I really like the way you describe the culture shocks. I watch a lot of content from Japan so I often wondered how a Japanese person would experience my country, now I know. So glad you love it here.
Ja nee!
I'm from Port Elizabeth, it's a really nice and great place to grow up. Some of my best memories are from there. It has become very quiet, it used to have at least some night life.
This is a perfect and accurate representation of South Africa. Very well done.
This was a lekker video! Thanks for making it! I’m glad you’re enjoying SA! I love my country.❤️
I just want to express my gratitude for emphasizing more on the positive and joyful side of south africa...i know south africa has its cons and rumors but it has a unique culture, diversity and beauty that can not be seen anywhere else. I do want to leave but its difficult to leave such a diverse ,rich in culture and varity and natural beauty. I will always be loyal to this country's positive aspects and features....Dankie emi...ek hoop jy sal dit baie geniet in Suid afrika verder..❤🇿🇦 # mixed Tanzanian, sowna, dutch and Indonesian❤
rumors?
Let's be honest no one has to lie about whats going on in this country to make it sound horrible, but the culture and nature make up for it.
THE TRUTH HURTS BUT YOU ARE 100% RIGHT
That mugger walk really made me laugh. Now I have learnt. I will be watching out these muggers.
As a South African vegan in Joburg, thank you for the moment of silence. It's tough but when I stopped hanging out with people who would make fun of me at every braai, it became easier
Yoh be grateful youre not in durban 😭🙏 its so hard to find nice dairy n egg free food
Ps im allergic to dairy and egg not vegan anymore tho
I don't know why this is making me laugh because I can just picture the questioning. Not South African but I lived there.
@@ilikeicewater you have my sympathies, last time I went there was only vegan place (Oh My Soul?) and that was before a huge franchise sued them. But I hope people actually listen when you tell them about your allergies 😢
@@rimun5235 the worst thing is, they would do every time they saw me... As if we hadn't had the exact same conversation at the last braai 😂
About 25 years ago, when my daughter was a student at Wits, we had a braai for her birthday.
We had lots of meat, naturally, and I probably made greek salad, potato salad and coleslaw.
Her vegan friend brought giant mushrooms, aubergines and pineapple to put on the braai.
I can see the genuine interest and willingness you invest in learning about us South Africans and our culture by a lot of the things you've mentioned thus far about us and by saying 'Yoh' in certain phrases of yours. 😅
You're actually really doing too well. A lot of other foreigners who've been living here for long don't even know half of the things you're grasping because they don't immerse themselves in the culture and the people, so well done. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
🙏🏼❤️
And we really appreciate the willingness to learn because a lot of people in the country do not show the willingness and effort
Brilliantly produced video and well edited :3 lekker!
Ah thank you!🙏🏼
The whole "mugger walk" thing you spoke about. In Cape Town its called "rol" in Afrikaans. We describe it as a soda can rolling slowly with a dent in it, so it limps a little.😂😂🤣🤣
Forgot to add "Chow Chow". 🤣🤣
The mugger's walk for me☝🏾😂😂😂. I know crime is not a funny thing in our country, but this one was funny😂😂😂
In all, lovely video and much informative. You could have noticed already how we just love people here. Regardless where you come from, you will never feel like a stranger amongst us. Enjoy our crazy beautiful country and people❤️
🤍🙏🏼
Hilarious! I just looove this 😂 thanks for the kind words and the love you bring onto SA!
as a South African i think this is the most relatable video i have ever seen.
OMG you are so funny!I literally have not seen someone so positive about SA 😂 BTW you know way more than the average English speaking South African on how many languages there are and the Xhosa clicking 😅 you’re energy is amazing 🙏🏼
As a South African in Cape Town, we love you Emi. Thanks for promoting our beautiful country. Enkosi umhlobo wam. Shap!
I was born and raised in Transvaal (now Gauteng) but have been a resident of PE for over 25 years now, and this place is so laid back. hope you are enjoying it here and I'm loving the love you are getting in the comments. stay safe.!
The amount of "Yoh's" you've said throughout the video you've become comfortable living in South Africa😂wish to see more videos from you
Another South African here, SO great to hear from an interntational visitor that is brave enough to venture outside Cape Town. I am very impressed with the insight you've gotten within only a few months. Your Xhosa clicks are better than mine, to my shame, and your Afrikaans pronouciation is absolutely spot on (I am Afrinaans myself) I hope you get the opportunity to visit other areas in the country.
Nah, it's not venturing away from Capetown, it's venturing close to the townships thats a problem, and also Alberton.
😂😂 I never thought a muggers walk is funny till now.... But it can also be a pantsula walk not necessarily a muggers walk. Aaand I used to explain my humour to Australians a lot... Thy just didnt get it. Enjoyed your video. Would love to visit Japan my brother lived there fr almost. 5 years
I'm like, not South African, but I'm from Namibia which is super close, but damn did this make me smile, I have alot of family in South Africa✨Thank u so much for having such a lovely, positive reaction in this vid❤
As a South African, I'm glad that you got to learn our lifestyle and how we do things in SA, I'm glad you had a great time
Hahaha girl you’re 100% right on the mugger’s walk. You spot them from a distance away 😂
Did not know what a mugger's walk was until I saw it and recognized it haha! Love your take on us, love our country. Welcome here!
Great video overall but I want to point out some things
1. Loadshedding experience during a cinema is great. You can take out your phone's flashlight and make hand puppets on the big screen
2. We don't say "oaks" when we mean guys or friends, we say "ouens" or "ous" (pronounced "oh-en's" and "ohs"
3. The clicks in Xhosa are still difficult to pick up as a primarily English speaking South African
As soon as I saw this, I clicked. Living in South Africa is an interesting experience and I’m glad I could see someone from another part of the world see it.
as a south African who grew up in another country for 14 years and came back to South Africa, I know the culture shock when I see it and you my dear have what i went through. I was never taught about the country or the culture or languages. its hectic here especially with load shedding and the data process XD This Video made my day 100000 times better!!!
Same I was born in Capetown grew up in another country for 16years then I'm back to my country and I'm literally shocked
Thank you. It was so funny to see how things we take for granted are seen by a person new to SA. I love that you love our wonderful country.
Omw the muggers walk is on point😅
You are linguistically gifted and you’ll learn Xhosa just for the attitude you have. You are a lifelong scholar . "Umama kho" in Xhosa was a nice touch at the end 👌🏿❤️❤️🇿🇦🇿🇦
Really great to hear you're enjoying and assimilating well to our country! Looks like you're surrounded by good people, that helps. I hope you have a safe and fun time 😁
Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha is my home town!! Sometimes it feels like no one ever visits pe because it's so small but it's such a friendly and beautiful city and I hope more expats and tourists visit. Welcome 😊
I loved your video. Thank you for doing our country and culture justice and respect.
As a South African who is currently living in Honduras: I love this! So many things that no one here understands 😂. And many memories of home ❤.
You are already feeling the vibe..I cannot believe you have been here less than a year, you are so South African! And your Sense of humour is one of the country! Stay positive .. ( and ohh shame you forgot "Shame") we use it genuinely everywhere!
Anyways I'm a Xhosa too, Wakanda Forever 😅
Wakanda forever 😭😭😂
You killed me with muggers' stereo type walks. The characters nailed it. I love my country 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This was so funny 😂. You seem like such a cool person. We're lucky to have you! Really hope you have a great time living here. Take care of yourself and looking forward to your next upload!
