Wizards and Warriors starts a new animated fantasy documentary lore video series on the world of Dragon Age. In the waning years of the Blessed Age, reptilian wings blanketed the sun. Dragons, thought to have been hunted to extinction centuries earlier, reappeared in the skies above the world of men and devastated the countryside of Orlais and Nevarra. Reading this as an epochal omen, Faustine II, Divine of the Chantry, declared a new age: the Dragon Age, which in her holy wisdom, she predicted would be a time of violence, upheaval, and dramatic change. Thus begins the period in which the titularly named Dragon Age games take place, yet this is not where the history of its world begins. In our first video we talked on the vibrant and tumultuous continent of Thedas, explored the immortal hubris of ancient Elvhenan, and the rise of the Blood Mages of Tevinter ( • Fall of Elvhenan - Ris... ), while the second episode described how these mages brought the Blight upon the world and how the First Blight started ( • How the Blights Starte... ). The third episode will talk about the religious and political response as prophetess Andraste and her husband Maferath declare war against the Tevinter Empire and lead an Exalted March against it, changing the Thedas forever ( • Rise of Andraste - Exa... ). Andraste's death made her a martyr, allowing her Chantry to take over the whole of Thedas.

MEH!
Thank you for another brand new lore video. I look forward to seeing more and conclusions of other series.
Once again I recommend using anime/manga as another source for future lore videos. My first choice would be the Shinobi World of Naruto.
Nice video. When's your next Sci-Fi video coming out?
Long live your videos!
Bioware should thank Wizards and Warriors. This series made me get all the games again. Dragon Age is by far my favorite RPG title, and that's coming from a guy that played pretty much anything based on DnD.
Origins was and remains to be a fuckinf elite game, they're all great but origins had a special place in my heart
@@wdxawwacawc6910 That's because Origins not only set a better tone than 2 & Inquisition, but also has better writing than both.
ahh same i started another playthrough
I love all 3 games and have played all 3 at least 100 times through
What dragon age game should I start first looking to get into it
12:53: "Now future generations only had five more blights to look forward to."... has to be the smoothest delivery of sarcasm i've seen in a while 🤣🤣🤣
Had never heard of dragon age before this but this and the final fantasy videos are easily becoming my second favorite active series (behind lotr first age of course)
You should try Dragon Age: Origins It's very good RPG.
All of the Dragon Age games are really good. You should definitely try it out.
@@SK133Zangetsu truly.
DA: O is arguably one of the best RPGs of all time and is SORELY in need of a good remaster. I've played it more than literally any other game. It's old but you're in for a good time if you like strategy.
The Transfiguration from the Old Gods to the Maker was *wild* . Imagine if Jesus was crucified under Emperor Tiberius, only for his nephew Emperor Claudius to suddenly declare Christianity the state religion in 43 CE. 🤯
Well almost, Christianity rise was also astronomical went from small cult in middle east to main religion of the entire Roman empire in 300 years
Kordillius Drakon was a amazing leader and a good friend by the way Inquisitor Ameridan talks about him. I admit i'm a Ferelden stan but I prefer him over King Calenhad.
He certainly did a hell of a lot to help set up the Orlesian realm, stop the blight, spread the chant. Though there are darker aspects to this
Too bad Drakon's son had to ruin everything lol
@@sveipr Dude took over in the middle of a Blight. Can't expect him to manage an empire that his father only just put together on such short notice.
If you delve deep into the Wiki; the Chantry and the Circle were originally founded by Archon Hessarian after his conversion - with the former temples of the Old Gods being turned into the first Circles, which functioned as centres of training and study. The Archon originally functioned as the head of the Chantry as well as Head of State, while the priests and grand clerics were predominantly male and mages. The Imperial Chantry took a more liberal interpretation of the 'Magic was made to serve man' verse, maintaining that magic should be used for the benefit of all, and that the Chant does not prohibit mages from holding political or religious office.
The Imperial Chantry initially accepted the authority of the new Orlesian Divine, and the Archons relinquished their ecclesiastical authority, but the refusal of the Southern Chantry to accept the validity of male clerics, and disagreements over their respective interpretations of the Chant, resulted in a permanent schism.
Based on what we learn from Ameridan, it sounds as if he envisioned a modified version of the system that operated in Tevinter; the Circle service as a safe place for Mages to study and live, the Templars functioning to protect Mages and to deal with magical crimes, while the Seekers served as independent non-partisan arbiters to deal with any arising disagreements - however the failure of the Seekers to act with genuine impartiality swiftly resulted in a glaring imbalance of power and the subsequent abuses.
The Imperial Chantry kept the Templar Order after the schism, together with their role of policing magical abuses under the auspices of the Chantry - but without the use of Lyrium to grant them magic-suppressing powers. Given what we know of the addictive effects of Lyrium, and the way the Orlesian Chantry effectively abandons Templars who have outlived their usefulness, this isn't necessarily a negative. From what Dorian tells us, aside from these doctrinal and organisational divergences, there's really no other significant differences between the two Chantries. It's even mentioned that the Minrathous Circle is run on strict Andrastian principles - one of the reasons Dorian disliked studying there.
Interestingly (to me, anyway) the effective neutering of the Imperial Templars occurs only a few years before the start of Dragon Age Inquisition, when the current Imperial Divine strips them of their investigative powers in order to conceal his own use of Blood Magic.
I'm really interested to see how the imperial templars look and operate, especially considering that they have access to special magical weapons when they're actually allowed to do something against rogue magic instead of being blocked by the Archon lol
@Sveipr even when they have their full authority they still don't actually investigate actual blood magic or abuses of magic they act more as biased private military force and investigators in the service of the magisterium
The DA lore is insanely good, hopefully in the future we will have a mature adaptation of these eras.
Thank you very much Wizards and Warriors for these Dragon Age videos!
Love these Dragon Age videos! The writing and lore is so deep and rich, but to discover it all in game is to try and thread together thousands of scraps of information. That you've done it for us and put together wonderful illustrations with an entertaining commentary makes you guys the GOAT fantasy channel!
You guys need to do one on the Qunari. They are an interesting bunch.
It looks like they're going in chronological order, so they should be getting to the Qunari when they pop up in the steel age.
I didnt know about Dragon Age at all but felt in love with the first video and wanted to know more about this Universe. I actually am loving the lore quite a lot so far since is something fresh.
I think around the 11 - 12 minute mark you confused the Divine Age with the Exalted Age. Aside from that this is a great video, I'm loving the historical documentary style your doing.
I wonder what you'll do when you get to the events of the games, since they are choice-driven and there are so many decisions and outcomes depending on the player.
No matter what, the main events of the story will still be the same.
- The Blight in Ferelden will be stopped by one hero no matter what.
- The Qunari invasion of Kirkwall will happen and a Ferelden refugee will become the Champion.
- After the destruction of Kirkwall Chantry, Mage-Templar War will break out.
- The Conclave will explode and the Divine will die.
- The Inquisition will be formed and the magister Corypheus will be killed.
- Solas will try to bring down the Veil.
Those will definitely happen regardless of the choices of the player.
I guess so
the lore of Dragon Age is so damn good. Love these videos, keep going you, mad lads.
“Have you ever licked a lamppost in winter?”
My favourite banter line in the game is when Alistair compares Morrigans nose to her mother's.
Always good to see more DA content.
I love that you include Dragon age lore in your repertoire! Keep 'em coming :D
The Dragon Age lore is PEAK cannot wait for what they have in store for the 4th installment
This makes me want to play Dragon Age 2 again. Goddamn i love that game so much.
Been waiting for a new episode on DA lore!
Wow these scammers are getting way slack aye
Tbh, I could never get into the DA games because of the gameplay. But I loved what I saw of the lore and story, so I’ve really been enjoying these history videos on the dragon age world! I’m tempted to read the books now…
The dwarves when the second blight begins: man i did not hear no damn bell
This video brings to mind an interesting subject for a what could have been.
What if Maferaths Tribal Empire of Andreasteans had endured?
Maybe Fereldan would be the center of the South’s cultural economic and political power instead of Orlais.
Been loving these videos! Hope you get to the Qunari invasions at some point. Probably my favourite fantasy faction.
Humans just cannot stop messing with the Elves, right? When the divine "commanded" the faith to be spread to all lifeforms in the world, they have an excuse of conquests.
Andraste frees humanity from mage oppression, and from the domination of the Tevinter who destroyed elven power and brought about the Blights, and her successors literally saved the world in the 2nd Blight, and fools still whine about them
Also if elves wanted peace, they shouldn’t have killed all the human emissaries and settlers that Tevinter sent.
@12:57 (The very definition of "at least its progress!")
Fantastic video once again, and cant wait for the next installment. DA Lore is so well done it really does drag people in.
Gothic games lore next? That would be incredible its rich in lore .
Thank you for this great Dragon Age series!
So... Kordillius Drakon is kinda like Dragon Age equivalent of Constantine the Great of our World?
Constantine and Charlemagne in equal measure
@@theliato3809 Ah... If that's the case then does this mean Orlesian Chantry and Imperial Chantry are basically France Papacy and Italy Papacy?
@@ThanoosUdom With Kordillius being a stand in for Constantine and Charlemagne the Orlesian chantry is much like the Roman Catholic Church. Though without constant power struggle between the crowns of France and the Holy Roman Empire.
The Tevinter/black chantry is like the Eastern Orthodox Church given that it’s like Byzantium empire but as a magocratic republic
@@ThanoosUdomThe Orlesian Chantry is the dominant Andrastian sect of the South. The Imperial Chantry is the dominant sect of the Tevinter Imperium. Orlais is equivalent to Francia/France, and Tevinter is generally equated to the Byzantine Empire.
@@theliato3809 Then what would you consider the Qunari equivalent of our world? the Viking? the Caliphate? Wait... Religious people with powerful navy... hm... Ottoman maybe?
Keep them coming I love these videos!!! Awesome narration
Considering Dragon Ages setting and how brutal it actually is, I can see the Maker being another deamon that will cause the end of the world. Instead of darkness consuming the world, "holy" light.
If WaW doesn’t do more Warhammer or even Warhammer 40k videos I’ll lose it. There is so much content in those 2 areas
14:00 Tevinter, the Sick Man of Thedas.
@12:15 Which is not to say that this decision by the Wardens was anything other than making the Chantry their designated religion (a diplomatic show of support for Emperor Drakon and the religion that he personally was working to spread.) The Wardens have never controlled territory or held noble or royal titles giving them authority over lesser nobles or peasants (up until the aftermath of the Fifth Blight that is,) and thus there were no Chantries built by them, no efforts by them to convert more people to the Chant, and no requirement for future recruits to convert to the Chant of Light upon joining the Wardens. The Grey Wardens (then as now) zealously guard their neutrality, both political and religious (to the point that Wardens in Kirkwall during the Qunari attack on the city determine they cannot fight the Qunari other than in self-defense, even after Qunari have attacked them already or in an effort to save civilians, because the Darkspawn are not involved. They take their neutrality VERY seriously in an effort to ensure that when it comes to Darkspawn, they are trusted as being warriors who battle Darkspawn, period, and therefore you should listen to them regarding Darkspawn.) Be Wardens worshipers of the Maker, the Elven gods, or the Dwarven ancestors, each Warden is free to worship as they see fit (or not at all.)

Kordillius Drakkon saved the world. Maybe the Maker really did choose him after all.
Great video
Great video!
Again thank you!
Wizards and Warriors is doing Andrasty's work. Keep spreading the faith brothers and sisters!
I know that the original Inquisition was brought up in this episode, but I hope the history and politics between Inquisitor Ameridan and Drakon are brought up the next episode when talking about the fall of the Dales!
Such a good video man , great work!! 🔥
Good one
This video... The sword was used to SHOW MERCY
Glory to humanity!
Tevinter is such an enigma...There is slavery, but also freedom for Mages. It's like Rome, glorious but tainted with the blood of slaves..However, even Ancient Elves put their kin into slavery...no one is completely clean of some crimes
One problem. The inquisition was formed before the chantry during the rise of andraste and served under her banner
Interesting stuff!

Where does the setting of the Dragon Age games take place it's history? Do they take in-between or is the lore leading up to it?
The 3 games take place in The Dragon Age. Basically the 9th century after the founding of the chantry
I will play inquisition again becaue of this vídeo.
so, if the dark\demons awakened an old god, it would turn evil and then a blight would occur, right? But what if the dwarves or humans had awakened an old god? Would it have been good and then allowed them to be a power for light?
Only Darkspawn can reach them. Old gods don't reveal their location to others. Why would they risk their lives anyway?
@@S.Solmazturk I know they don't reveal as they are asleep, but they are found accidentally by darkspawn. Just curious what would happen if dwarves, during their diggings, would happen to find one. Would be an interesting story line, right?
@@capt2278 any race other than the darkspawn would kill them instantly before they get tainted.
Also old gods summon the darkspawn to their location I think. Where does it say that they are randomly found?
@@S.Solmazturk That's just where my mind is taking me, that it's by chance. helps explain the time-gaps between blights. Also, If the old-gods are calling darkspawn, then why is it said that they become tainted by the darkspawn? If they are not already tainted, then why call to darkspawn? I may need to re-listen to the First in this blight series.
Trying to awaken an old god before the darkspawn so that they're actually good is actually a fan theory going around for dragon age 4. Guess we'll see if they ever go down that route lol
spreading a religion by sword point just like what happened on Earth
Not always, it primarily spread by trade, teaching, and charity work.

I don't see Dragon Age fans giving so much crap to the Chantry as League of Legends fans give to Demacia for basically doing their same thing.
Really now? Giving the chantry crap for what it does seems almost a given.
It’s not like Demacia plays as big a role in League since it’s a moba game, not an RPG
If you keep looking you will find them. Though it is more tame compared to League because the fandom is more focused on the Templars and Mages. Not so much the institution that created the system sadly.
Around elves, watch yourselves
I hate Templars...A.T.A.B.
Let all the abominations run around unchecked then
Go back to circle
@@Jdjdjdujakzgsha Mages are capable of controlling abominations and their internal affairs without the yoke of the chantry and templars
