Geode resin cake stand
I used U Resin Cast to make this resin cake stand. I also used mica powders and pigment pastes by Le Rez, Art tree creations, Castin Craft and Artisue. I also used Pinata alcohol ink.

Beautiful Julie, when I need to find the centre, I find it easier to draw around it on some paper, fold it in half and then quarters xx

I've been waiting for this, but my house list electric due to the hurricane. So happy I could see it anyway. I remember Petrs saying the colorants make food safe.resin, unsafe and that's why she does a flood coat and an undercoat because she uses both sides. They are beautiful, Julie. Just want to remind you to think of all the tool we use in nursing. IV machines alone are a bit crazy. I do enjoy your videos. From a RN who paints as well as quilting, painting with material. 👍
I’ve heard on other videos that pigments sink or swim and it’s the type of resin, not the pigment. A faster setting resin may save your gold from sinking. Hope that helps. You are amazing!

Great job, once again! This is a beautiful cake stand! I ordered my own a week ago, and can't wait to get them, so I am so thankful you showed the complete process (needed to know about the drilling!)
When I want my gold to float, this is what works for me:
Use gold spray paint (sprayed into a paper cup, or on a paper plate...do not use plastic, it will melt), wait for the resin to set up a bit (for the brand I use in Germany, there's about 30 to 40 minutes), then dip a bamboo skewer into the gold, spray paint and draw into the setting resin...it will stay on top and once you've done it a few times, it's as easy as drawing the lines!
Hope that you try it, and find that it to be a useful tip!

Very pretty. I believe the blob in the middle is basically all the colors mixing as you pour in more colors and the pressure from the pour makes it go to the surface
Bless your heart so much for showing the drilling! Most people think it's common sense to drill the holes but I was petrified of the resin shattering, watching you drill just eased my mind soooo much. This entire project is gorgeous! Job well done! Thanks so much for sharing!
A bit of masking tape on the surface will stop the drill bit slipping as it starts, and also stop the resin around the hole chipping. If you mark on the tape as you're finding the centre, you won't end up with pen marks on your resin either 😊
TTHESE ARE REALLY BEAUTIFUL!! I REALLY LOVE THE COLOR COMBO N THE YELLOW GOLD LOOKS AMAZING AGAINST THE TEALY BLUES!! THE WHITE,IN MY OPINION SEEMED TO ADD DIMINSION TO ME! JUST SO SO PRETTY!!!

@@wtglb Fluid art is a LOT of fun because there are so many techniques and things you can do with it. However, it is an expensive art form because you use so much paint and pouring mediums, and there's a boatload to learn. It's like being a mad scientist. If you watch Julie Cutts, you probably already know that every product you add to a pour affects how the paint reacts and moves. One of the vital things to learn is that CONSISTENCY (i.e., the viscosity or thickness) of your paints is THE KEY to achieving the type of technique you want to use. Each technique has it's own consistency requirements, and all the paints used in one pour should be the same consistency.
In my opinion, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to join 2-3 Facebook art groups. You can post your paintings and ask questions. There will be some things that you'll need to learn on your own. This isn't an art form with totally clear-cut recipes and guidelines for everything. You learn by doing and finding out what works best for you.
Consider checking out Tish Winter's RUclips Channel "The Artist's Haven." She's a very small channel, but she is ALL about supporting artists (from all genres). She does a wonderful Beginner's Basics live stream every Thursday at 9:30am Central Time. She also live streams 5 nights per week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday) at 7pm Central Time. Everyone in her "Tribe" is very supportive of one another and super nice. I moderate for her. I also moderate for Heather Mader Art. Heather live streams every Friday at 5p Pacific Time. If you come to any of these live shows, please be sure to say hello to me and remind me that we talked in Julie Cutts' comment section.

A paddle bit is helpful. It lets let you drill a flat, shallow hole your washers and screw heads sit inside of. What a fantastic project! I'll have to try it one day.
I love it when i can hear the birds there it's different then what i hear here in the us .and when u feed the birds too. Thank you for your tutorials i enjoy watching them and your excitement it put a smile on my face .thats how i feel when i do a peace too.great work so pretty.ty from the us.

Also, you can use Alumilite Gold Metallic powder and brush it around the siliconse’s mold, then do your pour to achieve metallic looking rim without the hassle of painting at the end. I just learned this trick and it turned out beautiful. I think you can use any fine mica powder also.

It’s a masterpiece! I can’t imagine it being any prettier. Elegant. When I think of all that could go wrong on a first try and nothing did. You thought every step through beautifully avoiding so many mishaps. Loved the birds cheering you on in the background, “Well done, Julie!”.

You were concerned about the white I think it looks good. It makes the design pop out, recently I've bought a tray, 3 canister set plus a tissue box with crystles on it from someone local who makes for my daughter's 22nd birthday. I'm amazed how beautiful resin is and the styles designs that comes out never 2 are the same.

I am new to working with resin art and right now I am doing the research. And I stumbled upon your video. I absolutely love your energy! It's a bit chaotic and quite welcome because I am new to this and it makes me feel better that you also still struggle. So it kind of encourages me to not be afraid to mess up and thank you for that.
I think when you added the gold around the edge of each of the plates it really made them stand out! You are very creative

Oh Julie, this is so beautiful, you did a wonderful job. A couple of things... on the drill there is a black toggle that pushes left and right. It controls the direction that the drill turns. Use this to back the bit out of your tray. It's very easy to crack the hole if you just pull the bit out. Also, I know you prefer to pour puddles as opposed to rings, but you will be able to control your colors better. Think about the motion of pouring into the center of your rings, this is what is causing your outside edge color to overtake the other colors. The weight of pouring in the center causes the outside to pull in and the middle to sink and push out. So proud of you using the drill, before you know it you'll be building houses. 😉

Ask your husband to show you how to reverse drill, so when you drill through a future project instead of pulling out the drill bit and risking damaging your work you can just hit reverse and the drill drills it way back out just like it did in. ( it’s usually a black button by the thumb) .Love how this turned out, and also love how authentic this video was, I’m tired of perfect videos with edits that take out natural reactions of the artist. I was as nervous and excited as you were and I’m glad it turned out so pretty. I’ll be back for more. Great work.
Wish I could see these in person. So pretty! Maybe add gold on the flood coat? As if you were pouring a whole ‘nother one, but instead of all the colors just gold and clear? I’ve never done these, I’ve only seen what you do, so forgive me if I’m missing something. Really, really pretty. I think I like the white.

There are special drill bits you can use to recess those screws. Called countersink drill bits. No more wobbling. Would be a good investment if you plan to make very many of these. 😃
I think they are beautiful. Julie when you made marble you put spray gold in cup. Maybe you could add your gold toward the end around outside edges. So beautiful. I love the way you talk to yourself almost like you're speaking directly to a live audience.
If you put a bit of paper in a small circle in the center under the mold it will keep the color from overtaking the center of it. Since it self levels it wont all run back to the middle. It will also give you room for the screw without needing the bumper and it will be thinner for the posts
If you have a square grid, you can place it underneath each plate. You will see a square then, and can use the center gridlines from each side to measure across. If you get a reusable grid that is larger than your largest plate, you can use it over and over for every size you make.
Not sure if that explains it, but it’s like putting a circle on some graph paper. It makes it very easy to find the center of the circle with a ruler.
I love the white striations!
After staring at them for a while, the navy edges make them look like three dimensional bowls verses a flat surface. It looks like the gold made its way to the centers before you put the leaf in. It all looks beautiful!

I made a resin clock today, I've found, when using artisue colours, a puddle of clear on top in between each colour keeps them gently separate, then you don't lose any colours.

I’m actually glad you filled them. And you have the pink molds. It’s why I watched this video. I thought I was doing mine wrong. I was making mine and let mine sit for weeks and they bent. Tried them several times. So I know it wasn’t me. I think they are too thin. So I’m going to have to do flood them to thicken them because I don’t have the pink molds. So you have it at a good thickness. At least that I can see to hold weight. Mine wasn’t even holding anything and they went even as big as yours.
