On top of that you have the puppies you care for, as well a wild birds you look after and feed. And a job - I believe you said nursing. How do you do it? Hi Julie!! 👋😎👋 Much better sized mold this time, since it made the coverage of the backs thicker. Yeah!!
I had a couple of thoughts, as I normally do. What if you found some plastic lids that are slightly larger than you want your geode molds to be and squirted your silicone into them. You could vary the width, or thickness, of the edges away from the plastic lids to make your molds. This way you would keep the sizes of your molds all relatively the same. You could also judge the depth of your molds based upon the height of the plastic lids. You could then lay them inside a single mold like you did today.
For removing bubbles, do you have a tool in the shop that vibrates a fair amount? You could place it on the tabletop so that it vibrates the silicone. This would help bring bubbles to the surface.
Lastly, if you have an exacto knife, you could use it to trim the silicone film away before you remove the blank. This will give you a good pattern to follow, and an excellent edge to your silicone.
God bless Julie and lots of love!!! 🧡💙👩‍🦳️💜💛

The weighing would work.. except for one problem.. the moulds you made with the silicone caulk are not all the same size.. you would be better off making a single mould with the caulk.. using it to make 6 blanks ( cus then the weighted resin would work as it is the same size every time) then using those blanks to make your main mould.. because some of your caulk moulds are smaller than the others ..so that amount of resin in the smaller moulds will make them thicker than the others
Also the roughy oil slick.. you are burning the resin with the torch.. that’s why it’s discoloured on top like an oil slick or trail and you have a rough bit

I saw a girl making molds but she used sticky tape or cover clear adhesive instead of clay. Molds came out perfectly.

If you put a flood coat on the side with ridges it’ll then be slick and shiny, right? Not sure if that even makes a difference in the grand scheme really. I’m going through the same situation with making molds! Definitely keeps me busy but very exciting 🔮

What about using a scalpel to cut around the edges. Wouldn't it be easier to trim with the coasters still in the mold?
Your mold looks really nice. Just a little trim and perfect.

Just a thought. What if you build a solid box of the same material that you built the walls out of, pour a thin layer of resin on the bottom and while it's still wet place your blanks in the resin then it will be all hard and smooth and when it cures you will be able to just pour the silicone on it and when it cures you can just pull it right out and you won't have to worry about any silicone leaking underneath.
That way you can also be very certain about the depth that your coasters will turn out. 🤔😃🐰

Have you tried placing the rolled out plasticine in a warm oven for a few minutes and then pressing the blanks down in it?
