I actually like this movie. Not great, but not terrible. 7/10.
Did they give Kong a Face lift after the heart surgery? He looks totally different from 1976.
Also, the design in King Kong lives looks AWFUL. He looks very fake too. Ten years after amazing effects, and somehow they got worse. Well, that actually happens a lot. Particularly in Jurrasic Park sequels.
@Utopia Venture I thought that the same thing happened in the Christopher Reeve Superman films. The effects actually got worse!

what I hate about this movie is that not only do they have Kong eat meat ( which goes against what Jack said in the prequel as well as gorillas being herbivores) but have him eat a person which to me kinda ruins this incarnation of Kong but I can understand why some people like this movie.

Dude, when asked in an interview baker said he was disappointed in his final suit for kong 1976 but said the carlo rambaldi suit had really good animatronic face.
I personally find the Kong suit in this film to be a serious downgrade from Rick Baker’s. Though you’re absolutely right and the arm extensions and quadrupedal stance. Kong is king, he deserves to walk upright like a man! 😤
Other than that, our opinions on the film line up. I only wish Lady Kong and Junior had been placed on Skull Island to bring the natives out of their depression.
I too give this a 6/10. It's not great by any means, but it is enjoyable.
Peter Weller was offered a part in this film but he opted to play the title role in RoboCop instead good choice!
I've heard of this continuation of Kong from 1976, the movie never watched, but I heard about the story where it passes. It's pretty cool. I thought it was cute Kong dating someone who is of his kind.😁👍🏻
2:57-3:05 I know you said that King Kong 1976 is your favorite film of all time, but to me, the Peter Jackson version has the most iconic Kong roar (but that's mostly because I grew up with that version and the video game).
Oh boy do I hate this movie. This was the hardest part of when I made my Kong week review last year.

By the way, I seriously love this movie.
Basically this movie is inconsistent to Kong's design, the first movie had Kong exactly how he is - brown furred and bipedal - and in the second movie he has black fur and walks on his knuckles. It's like they couldn't make up their minds.
The main thing I hate about this film is that it's almost unrecognizable from the '76 film. I wanted a true sequel to that. In this one, he looks too different from the first film, the score is completely different, and Kong's roar is too different. It's like two completely different universes altogether.
Ian J Whyte from 4 years ago: during making of 2005's King Kong Peter Jackson put out a release that sequel Son of Kong was already in production. Would take place in late '30s with Hitler's Germany discovering the island and little albino Kong would aid the good guys fighting them!
The sequel, with preproduction art and the whole shebang, was announced on April 1st. And I totally fell for it!!!
Can you imagine an alternate timeline where these movies crossed over with the Heisei Godzilla films? I can imagine an adult Son of Kong teaming up with an adult Godzilla Jr. and Eternal Mothra Leo to fight some bigger threat.
I Have a Theory here that Kong Walks more on 4 feet Because as he fell from the World Trade Center He got Brain damage And Probably forgot how to walk on 2 feet
That and probably forgot how to eat fruit and plants.
When this came out there was a one sentence review of it in Rolling Stone - "King Kong Lives! ... and the audience dies." Brilliant review and accurate.

This is the second Kong movie i discovered in my life, totally agree on the flaws in it, but there’s actually nothing who can make me hate this movie. Love and fond forever.

You know I just rewatched this film recently. I haven’t seen it since middle school and I didn’t like it. Going back to it now it’s not as bad as I remembered and actually not that bad of a film. I prefer son of Kong or King Kong escapes more but this is still a fun cheesy monster flick and has some great moments.
Can't help but love this film.

while i like the 76 one, its SEQUEL is TRASH. I still remember watching it in the theater and keep rolling my eyes and watch..and laughing occasionally at just how stupid out of date this movie is even for that time (1986)...
oh, and on the score...it's nothing compared to the original's John Barry's composition.

I saw it in the theater when it first came out. I have never seen it again!
I read somewhere that the motivation of the general wanting to kill Kong is that he was insane. That I do believe. My only fault with this movie is that the fight scenes with Kong went on too long. That general should have died earlier in the film or better yet, lived and put away somewhere. Totally agree about the baby's size on being born-should have been much bigger. Yes, the violence done to Kong was too much and the scenes lasted too long. Absolutely loved the beginning and ending themes. Dwan and the Jeff Bridges character should have made appearances. Disagree with you about the ending because I think it was a very emotional ending-Kong and his family are not going to be together and that is sad and emotional. I also disagree with your calling it a bad movie. While not as good as it could be, I'd still not call it bad because that says they made no good effort and trying to make it good and they did.

This is the worst Kong movies of all times.
I believe from what I saw in the movie king Kong throw a big rock at an army jeep what a couple of soldiers in it but luckily they were smart enough to jump out of the Jeep before the Rock hit them and I believe that's what made everyone mad including the colonel then he decided to Kill King Kong after the fact so there you go mystery solved

Now look Director John Guillermin should sold his movie script to the Japanese movie studio like Toho Movie Studio where they can add King Kong in the Godzilla Movie called Godzilla Vs Spacegodzilla (1994) so that way the Japanese Filmmakers Will hired Peter Elliott as Kong the eight wonder of the world in the Heisei Godzilla Movie Series In Godzilla Vs Spacegodzilla (1994) so that way they can save the King Kong Lives movie script for there Future Japanese Films like A Heisei Godzilla Movie Series!

Idk if it would have made this movie any better but Peter Weller was giving this movie to do but he picked to do Robocop. On movie i liked it sure not high art but i really enjoyed it plus love the score to this movie and subscribed.

I'm sorry but I disagree with this review.
I have to break it to you my young friend, but this was garbage it was an unworthy follow-up to the 1976 remake I was 14 when this movie came out and I didn't like it then either. I applaud the fact that you were trying to point out good things that happened in this film but in my opinion everything went wrong with this one. Unfortunately the producers were about 10 years too late with this one.
Am I the only one that thinks baby Kong is not Kong’s son? A pregnancy takes 9 months and this movie is where kong and lady Kong first meet, we also know lady Kong is not from skull island but from Borneo, so she must have been pregnant before she met Kong since 9 months don’t pass in this film

The people from this film were cruel like the one's from animated king kong musical called the mighty kong like that fat photographer, who calls Ann darrow an apple napper, and there pulls a mean, rude, evil grin while the photographer with the camera takes a picture of carl Denham with his star Ann darrow.
and that guy who sells fruits & vegetables, and courts Ann darrow from stealing an apple, just like in the original & the 2005 remake.

The original King Kong (1933) is the best. Kong King (1976) is pretty good but not has good has the original. King Kong live is a good movie not has good has the King Kong remake from 1976.

The worst King Kong movie ever made. It’s a horrendous abomination with horrible special effects, horrible scripting, and horrible everything if you ask me. I highly recommend that you do not ever watch this movie. Go watch the original King Kong or the Peter Jackson remake from 2005.
I saw King Kong Lives when I was like 10, and I fucking hated it. It's total fucking shit. Then again I thought the 76 one wasn't great either.
