    Excellent car just got my mother in laws 2006 lucerne. Excellent engine 3800. One thing you might want to keep an eye out for is the rear seat where the fuse box is located. The seat clip left rear by fuse box rubs against fuse box which will cause box to short circuit and melt fuses. Cut seat clip enough so it's not rubbing against fuse box. Also the plastic coolant elbows Crack. Replace them with metal ones. Also I replaced all the door latches because doors will get stuck unable to open doors. Good luck otherwise Excellent car

      I bought a 07 lucerne just JUST over a year ago for 4900 including registration and safety... I've had to sink over 3500 into it in 13 months... =( and it only has 151 700km...

      I dont know why but mine seems to keep having shifting problems (its automatic) but some days it will hard shift...or almost seems like it misfires... and they also have lots of electrical things that could go wrong...but yeah I've had to put NEW alternator...new battery... new sparkplugs/wiring...new bearings for the front...new calipers.. and some other stuff... so in 13r so months (oh and including about 3/4 oil changes) I've sunk 9000 9500 into this car....I wish I never got it...but my HOPE IS THAT. If I get ALL THESE things fixed...and keep it updated...it wont need much and should last me 4 5 more years.....no matter what I'm keeping it now... but yeah ...I guess some people get lemons...and mine was one. Least it gets me around. But yeah... I can see it needing a new fuel pump to within a year or so... =( and POSSIBLY even a transmission rebuild...(wish I woulda sold it the second I found out the alternator was going)...but now I just look at it as its CHEAPER sinking 1k into it every half year then buying another used car for 8k-15k...and in my brain I say WELL HOPEFULLY now that ALL THIS STUFF HAS BEEN REPLACED ETC that it WONT HAVR as many problems down road.... I pray lol 🙏

    The start and stall issue (on mine) was a dirty throttle body. Use a can of cleaner and you’re good to go. Also, don’t forget about lower and upper intake manifold gasket failure is very common. About $1000 to remedy that at a repair shop.

    Bought a 2006 Lucerne CXL with 203,048 miles on it, inside is super clean, just a different color drivers seat & the right front fender was pulled out as best he could, great rims, looks awesome..start it up & once it heats up the rpm gauge goes wonky, it bucks & stalls or dies, after waiting awhile it starts again, only to do the same thing, the AC blows warm, I haven't juiced it because there's a leak that we detected, the windshield is also broken..we thought it was the fuel pump but a friend of mine has a real gadget you plug into the computer & it's telling us it needs an ignition control module...an ignition coil & intake gaskets with injector O rings..I'm gonna fix these issues & if they don't correct the problem I'm gonna dump it & chalk it up to being a frikin' idiot when it comes to buying used cars...any other suggestions as to why it doesn't perform at all...?

I’ve done evap system sensors, wheel hubs, tie rod end, thermostat, gas cap, brakes and rotors, rotted brake line, motor mounts, the front speakers work for a day every six months and the hvac system is wonky at times.otherwise it’s a super comfortable efficient car. Oh the lucerne let me tell you about my little baby I have my fathers Lucerne passed down to me an to him from his brother now 283k I’ve done a lot but have enjoyed the CXL model. I have only had 1 terrible repair so far and that’s the Front engine cover . Water ran out ran the temp up shut it down and replaced thermostat, radiator hose, water pump, then realized it was the engine cover gasket which was a nice task for a diy and i put Good gaskets. But I’ve recent ly replaced lower,inner,control arm ball joint and wheel bearings now along with a power steering hose, front shocks and converted rear Shocks non air. All less than $1000. I noticed while driving previously before the gasket problem while at speeds 40-70 while lower rpm it would act funny with the throttle like rocking forward well anyways as i did the gasket repair i FOUND Wires going to 2 sensor cam position and another that had burnt wires i fixed an it went away. Now my driver seat movements forward have stuck no going BACK . So I’ve unbolted the seat and found its very annoying if you move the seat to much you can’t get the bolt in and if you have the seat in it won’t work. She’s worn me out an occasionally the transmission slips and she’s all worn out but good Faith it will hold up till then I’m going for 300k. Thanks You and congratulations on your Lucerne

    I have a 2010 Lucerne CXL that just turned 150,000 miles. It has the 3.9 V6 which I absolutely love! 227 hp I believe and lots of low end torque. I bought it in 2018 with about 100,000 miles on it and I take really good care of my cars and this one is probably the most trouble free car I have ever owned. The 3.9 engine is a newer version of the old Chevy 2.8 V6 and it runs great. All I've had is normal wear maintenance like brakes and replaced the plugs and wires soon after I bought it. Extremely quiet and a great car for trips. The previous owner took pretty good care of it too. I forgot I had to replace the drivers side mirror when the glass discolored from the auto dimming feature. I found a replacement at a junk yard for $50. I had 3 Pontiac Bonnevilles before this with the 3800 V6's and this engine runs stronger but doesn't get as good gas mileage. It's about 2 to 3 mpg less on city and highway.

    I had a 2006 with less than 60000 miles. I absolutely loved it. Ran into a deer and totaled it. Got a 2008 and had it for about 5 years now. No problems until the last year. So I had to have an alternator and a power steering pump replaced. The power steering pump twice. The one they put on was worse than the one they replaced. $1400. Then I also had the infamous fuse block issue. My 06 everything was under the hood this one is under the seat. Very inconvenient for handicapped people. Replaced the fuse block for $200. Did it ourselves. Less than 10 mins. Now I have the other problem with door handles breaking. So I have a new drivers side door handle beside me with JB weld I just put in it so hopefully that won’t be an issue again. Still have to work out the drivers side door open issue. Makes it real inconvenient that I can’t lock the door or roll down the window or use anything on the door without it being halfway open

To me, she's an "average" car; not nearly as fun or accommodating as our old deceased 1995 Park Avenue. BTW, purchased our CX in 2009 for 18K with 26,000 on the clock - and it's still under 80,000 miles.

    I have a 2010 Lucerne CXL with the 3.9. I have had quite a bit of trouble from mine. First of all after only a few months of buying it the fuse box under the back seat shorted out. That was a $600 repair. Then the flex pipe on the catalytic converter which is about 6 inches long blew out/worn out. It was the only car I had so I had to drive it a bit like this. Turns out that was a HORRIBLE idea because it was right near the transmission and the exhaust coming out onto the transmission ended up causing transmission failure. $2k transmission rebuild. Then a few months later I got a low oil pressure light which caused engine failure. Nearly $3k repair parts and labor after having a used engine put in it. And still I am getting a check engine light which reads as low voltage to the fuel pump. Yes when I had the repair done on the fuse box under the back seat I did trim the seat clip so it wouldn't happen again so I have no idea what is causing the low voltage to the fuel pump issue now.

    • @Kiwiv65
      @Kiwiv65  2 года назад +4

      That is a shame. I have heard issues about the fuse box under the rear seat. And I do prefer the 3.8 motor over anything as they do seem to be a tried and tested motor. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about the 3.9. Shame it hasn’t been a good vehicle for you.

      Hi. That could be a number of things. I presume you check the fuse. Could be a bad motor, but those climate controls. Specially, if the dual climate controls are really quite a problem child. Could also be a bad ground to the motor or something as simple as a wire broken. You might want to get a voltmeter and see if you’re getting voltage to the motor plug in

      Im 6'4" and 270 plus pounds..my dad is 6 foot and about 180.. It's just too difficult trying to bend over and get down into the driver seat.My dads first Lucerne' was a 09 with the gear shift on the column, That and a bit more room for me to sit in. It was totaled in 2016, it was hit just forward of the drivers side front door and was pushed into the right lane .. His insurance company totaled it. Both front doors were out of line ...and of coarse the "illegal driver * had no license but the car was insured by her boy friend thru State Farm... she never reported the accident . I called an agent friend of mine at State Farm and gave her the whole ball of wax.. My dad looked for a used Lucerne because he didn't want to learn a new car ... LOL...The 2011 had very few miles on it but had that euro style gear shift.. He didn't like that at all...@@Kiwiv65

    I have an 07 lucerne with a 3.8. Cxl, the trunk won't open! I don't have the key fob. There's no keyhole ON the trunk, and when I hit the button in the glove compartment nothing happens. Change the fuse. Same thing. Any ideas?

      That’s a difficult situation for sure. Some vehicles you can take the rear seat back out and get access to the glow in the dark emergency pull Tab. I would guess that it’s a broken wire somewhere that actually goes to the release mechanism in the trunk

  • @MyLifeThai371

    I owned a 2007 Buick Lucerne with the 3.8L. It ran good up until 191,000 miles and at that point the engine developed a slight misfire on cylinder #1 that I could not even notice, but since the computer notices it, it will keep turning off the cruise control. The mechanic replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, the coil packs and the distribution plate that the coil packs sit on. He could not figure out what was causing the misfire and at around that time the radio speakers were crackling super loud, even with the radio turned off. I hated having my ear drums blown out and driving a car without cruise control. I would not suggest buying a Lucerne. My brother also had a 2008 Lucerne with only 80,000 miles. The climate control would not blow much heat on the passenger side floor board, so his wife was freezing her feet. The spent $2000 at the chevy dealership after taking it in multiple times and they could not figure it out. They ended up trading it in because of the problem. I will never buy another Buick Lucerne!
