Brian doing the throwback handlebar grip. I remember him getting so much flack back in the day about riding with his thumbs on top of the bar. Good luck on the new company. Stoked to see all of your dreams coming to fruition. You deserve it man. Stoked for you!
Turning your thumb like that makes a difference! I think it opens up your shoulders and chest just a bit so you do it instinctually when you're climbing. It's like how I use aerobars, which is never to go fast, its this instinct that I need to stretch out my torso.
I like to buy components that are the best quality or best design or function the best. Don’t care if company has a name or a story as long as it works better than the rest.
My replay is in answer to his questions at 4:37 btw. Not bashing his products i truly hope he succeeds and i love his channel. But as a consumer i want him to know what i prioritize and its not if it has a story or a name. I prioritize quality. But thats just me others may want a story or just buy the cheapest. Everyone is different.
1:38 So a bike component company whose main competitive advantage in the market is marketing . . . Yup sounds like a great value proposition for the consumer. Also Brian, I've been checking out and enjoying your channel since 2017 but 4:38 honestly made me roll my eyes. Regardless, best of luck.
@@michaelglidewell1524ahh I see, so a company then whose demand is based on short term supply bottlenecks. You got me there brother. Ps apologies for the snark, I just feel like a lot of bike companies jockey for customers through marketing bs and branding, and not on the quality and consistency of their product. I understand that some consumers do put a high premium on brand image, but for me personally, I care about the durability and engineering of my parts or innovations in design, and the focus of bike companies on lifestyle branding had led to opaque or extraordinary claims about performance, with precious few bike media outlets calling them out. Essentially, I was hoping that Brian, being somewhat grassroots in terms of his provenance and claiming to engage in "disruptive activity", would cut through the bs, but I ended up getting more of the same. Oh well, such is life.
I kind of agree. I have been enjoying these videos for several years now, and will continue. You continue to move forward, pushing more people on trails and really admire you for that. Though I was expecting more from the brand. In the era of ecology, local, conscious, I feel the brand could deliver more. Much more. And have a bolder position on bringing back to riders or nature. In line with what you have done in your videos or what Ibis can do. Kind of the Patagonia of MTB ;) For now, I just feel it is technical merch. Please prove me wrong! I know it is very easy to write it on a comment in RUclips, and very hard to actually do it. So congratulations for this new adventure ;) Creating the Michelin guide of trails is such a logic move where you have a critical advantage, really excited to see it !
@@Ghisito I agree, the Michelin guide for bikes idea was probably the most interesting aspect of the video, and that's definitely an area where it makes sense to leverage the bkxc brand image. Brian is certainly someone I'd trust with enough experience to knowledgeably compare trails. Also tbf, in terms of ESG goals, giving a dollar back to trail systems is a very commendable thing to do. But yes, it seems like environmental concerns would also be a great fit for a bike company (save for the fact that actual environmental safeguards in shipping and manufacturing would price a new entrant right out of the market). And so again, such is life. Also for sure, merch is the best way to look at this rn as things stand.
@@justaperson1812 I felt the same way when he started with "it's about story" in the video but I decided to give him a fair shake and watch till the end. The quip about the "in stock" was because I know how hard it is to find parts especially consumables such as chains, tires, etc. Right now I'm just trying to keep the bikes that I have running and I got no use for handle bars, grips etc. Story or no story. The one item he mentioned that may turn out to be important long term is that at least one of the parts was "made in USA" and I think more of that is going to be needed long-term.
Brian, I have been mountain biking and working in Marketing/Sales for the last 25 years. Respect for your channel's mtb content which makes us escape our Mon-Fri workweek routine until we hit the trails on the weekends. Also genuine professional respect for your story telling skills and marketing thinking. All the best with the new Brand. Keep the content coming.
Seriously, I don't care about the story or how they look. They need to be quality products and competitively priced. Why would I buy these when the competition's products are time proven and priced similarly?
The plan is to cover all bases. Premium level MTB products that in every way shape and form stand next to the best quality stuff in existence. On top of that, the business model and sale of the products helps support trail building efforts around the world. Brian loves telling stories, myself (Jeff), Liam and our head engineer (Colm) are very much interested crafting top end products every step of the way and operating a business that covers the bases of excellent customer support and warranty. Hope that all makes sense :)
@@WorldwideCyclery Absolutely does! I really appreciate what you guys do for the industry and love the idea of supporting a more local type business when I can. From someone who love the high end bike stuff I guess I was just hoping to hear a little on the quality and performance factors. Looking forward to seeing what’s coming with this!
@@WorldwideCyclery honestly my favorite thing about this venture is that $1 will go towards funding trails! .. but how do we sell more product to make a large impact? I ask myself, what would get current riders(or myself) to swap their current equipment over or to seriously consider equipping their next bike with Trail1 products? I really believe it takes something special in the products’ designs. FYI Lifetime warranty(?) will be within your top five questions as you gain traction.
Worldwide Cyclery has delivered on its hype, and totally taken care of me on my parts questions, my orders, including with a no hassle return. I'm now a true believer, and will check out the new Trail 1 line for sure. It's nice to know and trust the people I'm giving hard earned money to. Sweet.
Hi I know Jeff @Worldwide Cyclery did a review of many bars, how does your T1 bar feel compared with a one up carbon bar? What’s the advantages besides the story, its made in Taiwan so is it just rebadged from another bar? Love the channel and want to support you but just need some information on performance. Thank you
Congrats on getting the project moving and I hope it takes off. For some user input, I'm happy to buy something because of the people behind it, but it's really more of a nice bonus at the end of the day. Regardless of who makes it, the product needs to deliver. It also might be a good idea to look at other content creators and how they handle marketing for their merchandise. It's 100% comparable because they're selling products which definitely do have some stories behind them, and people buy those products because they view them as something the content creators use themselves. But at the same time, it's important to remember that those products may affect how people perceive those content creators, not just for the quality, but also customer support.
Congrats Brian! I cannot believe it has been 5 years already. It seems like just yesterday I subscribed at around #2,300. Thanks for continuing to do what you do and keep mountaining biking exciting and new.
I just got my T1 carbon bars, stem, and grips and took my first ride. The shorter stem brought my cockpit in where I needed it to be and the bars feel compliant as ever. (first time using carbon bars) The grips feel amazing too! Thank you for doing this! I am glad to support yall.
The part about world wide cyclery was spot on I was trying to retro fit new parts in a old fork and the service I got and everything in general about world wide cyclery was amazing and honestly it costs me more as I’m Canadian and border fees and exchange but the service is what keeps me coming back to then also just picked up a set of trail 1 alloy bars 31.8mm clamp ones love em compared to my other stupidly small ones u know old bikes tiney handle bars
There will be a dozen RUclipsrs that will "test" the products and say they are the best, sell them with their own discount code and try to get us to promote them further lol
Stoked to see this come to life Brian! Your journey becomes more amazing every time I ckeck in. And I still remember watching your first videos back then ...
It all makes sense now, I only asked about these “experimental “grips a year ago and noticed that Jeff also had these on WC, congrats BKXC and Jeff looks like solid stuff.
Stoked for you, when I need something I'll keep you guys in mind. Just noticed a couple times on the climbs you put your thumbs over the top of the grip, I'll have to try it. Aloha from Maui 🤙
Brian, I'll never forget when earlier in your YT career, I asked you to say "Hoochi mama!" as you were riding in your next video (still not sure why I had such a goofy request).. anyway , you actually humored me and did. I always appreciated how you connected with your subscribers, even in the comment section and with a substantial following. I think you knew I followed you from very early and appreciated that. Hey, maybe your next stem will be the T1 Hoochi mama 🕺 Seriously though, congrats!!
Didn't see that coming, great logo and ethos, will stick with my uk made Renthals as I like to support uk business, saying that my 2nd choice is usually stuff from our friends in the USA....Good luck with it
Very exciting indeed. And to know that our dollars will be put to good use is amazing! I'm envisioning one- off smaller batch products named for trail systems around the world.. X amount of dollars from the limited run goes to that trail system. You pick a few trails/charities per year based on some sort of application process✊🏾🙏🏽
Hey brother, so glad to see the new gear company. And teaming up with Jeff… Love Worldwide Cyclery. His company is my go to for all things mtb. Fair pricing and lightning fast shipping. The customer service at WWC is exceptional. However, I’ve done a search for your Trail One Products and it appears to be an unfortunate name. It brings up a Cannondale bike and a couple canes for hiking, a bag making company… but none of your gear.
All the products look pretty nice!!! How much product testing have you done with the grips?? Refining those regularly could be a winner!! LOL I find myself doing the same grip when I'm chillin or climbing

I climb with my hands on the ends of the bars. I get why he does it. Do what’s comfortable. 👍
Thanks man!!
Of course not to be confused with the other T1 bike brand, Terrible One that's been around for years with a huge BMX presence.
I like to buy components that are the best quality or best design or function the best. Don’t care if company has a name or a story as long as it works better than the rest.
My thoughts exactly and would also also add good customer service, warranty and support. Never once did @bkxc mention those very important factors.

Do the Trail One titanium stem bolts fit on a industry nine A35 stem? Do I need to use the washers they come with?
