Layne Staley passes off the melody to Cantrell in about one second flat and harmonizes precisely, in a completely different octave like it's *nothing.* I love to sing along with this band as much as the next 90's kid but I've tried it and...that's...just...insane. Genius. RIP.

your a musician Huh? Me too although am not professional. Don't think ever will be either. But I love music. Everything from Led Zep all the way to Incubus. I do play a little six string. But love the bass. I been playing bass for fifteen years. Been playing six on and of for nearly forty five years. But I never got the hang of it. I sing a little too. I was in prison for nearly 20 Years. Thats where I learned the bass, at FCI Jesup We jammed twice a week in the the rec room. and then we did shows for everybody on the holidays. It made doing that time so much easier. Enough about me, Back to your subject Yes Layne was a beast. No Excuses is my favorite song.

But my parents had only one TV. Tvs were very expensive that time 1995-1996. That was one of their last shows... I was 16. Now I'm almost 40. And these memories accompany me for this life. Very grateful with life for enyoing their time and their music. I was poor kid. Now I have more. But still being that kid in my teens deep inside. The happiness the joy the struggle. 3:06 Despite how unsure Layne sounds with the word "reach", Jerry was actually the one who got the lyrics wrong. It's "reach for something strong". Jerry actually realizes and says "for" instead of "from" for the second word while Layne says "from" because he still thinks he messed up. So Layne sings "ream from" and Jerry sings "run for". I am overanalyzing, but these guys must have had nerves of steel to slip up like this and continue sounding awesome.

Most things are actually easier on that particular helper, at least up to a point - and then yes, returns diminish … but there’s a reason people do these things: to quote, I think it was Mitch Hedberg? “Not all drugs are good … some of them are great!” Your fingers feel more limber, your vocal cords loosen up, you’re flexible and disinhibited, after years of gray instead it feels like all the color and sound and flavor have returned to the world, your cares are gone, old grudges disappear, the world is in tune … if you can stay awake, it’s great, and even sleep is better. But like I said, it can have diminishing returns: high cost, dealers suddenly disappearing on you for weeks or trying to make an extra buck my mixing your shit with something stupid or insoluble like baby powder, cops fucking with you just to fuck with you or to meet some quota even though they don’t really give a shit and they’re all on steroids or worse themselves … even if you have the money, it gets messy and unpleasant as time goes on. But it’s still all worth it: again, if it sucked, people wouldn’t do it; the sad reality is, it’s fucking great - it’s just everything around it which sucks, and of course because it’s an unmonitored black market substance you never know what you’re getting, and that can mess up your health in an instant too.
