Did this for years, and it turns out I'm not too bad at drifting now! 😂 Some sections of the mine drifting was unavoidable! Look at the end of this clip, the ground moves!
When I used to lose control on surfaces like that I'd just let the truck do its thing, when that much mass has lost its grip there's not much your inputs can do. You also run the risk of just making it worse. As long as I kept it upright when it slid I'd be fine, just go back to work when it stops and be more cautious next time. The key is honking your horn like a crazy man to get the attention of those around you. Unless you're on Mt. Everest you and your truck should make it out ok. Worst case scenario your truck topples and gets swapped out for repairs. It's the people who aren't inside a 100 ton behemoth that are in the real danger. One time I came within a few feet of sliding into an empty pickup that a contractor left on site. Nobody had keys to move it so nothing was done. Half hour later I go past it and its a hole in the ground. Engine block was crushed like a soda can. Turns out the guy was so busy trying to regain control he didn't even notice he had hit it.
That was Holywood, He was the guy in the doco that was done. The whole thing was done for the film. I was his trainer along with Kathy the teacher. There was some good footage in the film. I cant remember the name but I think it was something like Gold Town ,not sure.
Holy shit that dude on IG wasn’t lying
These were fun to drive, but also stressful!
