Thanks for choosing this one guys. As mentioned in a previous comment, the song is a narrative of the guy being robbed by a potential conquest. Squeeze were always good at doing these 'story' songs.
I totally wore out my Squeeze Singles compilation cassette tape and this was by far one of my most favourite tracks. An absolutely superb British band.
Love Squeeze! Saw them open for Costello at UBC in -- oh, 81 or 2, I think. Great acts!
I love this song... even after Glenn Tilbrook pointed out how much it sounds like the theme from The Muppet Show :)
Squeeze were definitely a new wave band and most new wave bands were experimental with their sounds… liking to mix up traditional rock with synth… squeeze were class at this!

You can hear the influence of Brian Eno and of Peter Gabriel, on the almost minimalist production of this song.

And also Some Fantastic Place, which is a great tribute to Tilbrook's first girlfriend, who had just died and who was instrumental in urging him to answer Difford's ad to form a band. Some tasty guitar soloing.
How about Last Time Forever, an amazing song.
The woman in question lured him to a hotel room and robbed him.

And sounds like his wife also left him once she found out about his (attempted) one night stand.
I know you guys like Elvis Costello (and why not!) but have you heard "From A Whisper to a Scream" a song in which he duets with Glenn Tilbrook from Squeeze ?
If Not it's a good one.

Yikes! You're dis-respecting Gilson Lavis, who was Squeeze's long-time drummer. Funny, I was just listening to the song last night. More Squeeze please - Another Nail in my Heart, Women's World, His House Her Home, Points of View, Black Coffee in Bed, Somebody's Bell, This Summer and so much more.
Points of View is a fantastic song!
Gilson is a brilliant drummer. I understand that he's actually playing all those percussive noises at the start. I read an interview with Glenn Tilbrook where he said Gilson hung bottles and things on a line and played it like an xylophone, much to everyone's surprise :)
She stole all his stuff while he was sleeping, not very nice:)
