Mount Carmel: The Great Showdown Between Elijah & the False Prophets of Baal.
Location
1. The place marking the great showdown between Elijah and the false prophets is known as Deir Al-Mukhraqa Carmelite Monastery. The Discalced Carmelites are made up of Catholic men and women who dedicate themselves to a life of prayer. The Carmelite nuns live in monasteries and follow a wholly thoughtful and reflective life.
2. Mount Carmel is located about 9 miles (15 km.) east of the Mediterranean Sea in the Carmel Mountain Range, which is in the northern part of Israel. It’s also about 28 miles (44 km.) southwest of the Sea of Galilee.
3. Mount Carmel was a High Place of worship to the false god of Baal and Asherah during Judges, 1 & 2 Samuel, and 1 & 2 Kings.
4. It has a spectacular view of the Jezreel Valley, which is also known as the Valley of Armageddon. Armageddon is where part of the last battle on earth takes place at the end of the Great Tribulation Period.
5. From Mount Carmel, Nazareth and Cana can be seen to the northeast.
Historical Background
1. The great showdown between the Prophet Elijah and the 850 prophets of Baal and Asherah began around 100 years earlier when King Solomon sowed the seeds that would destroy Israel morally.
2. Against God’s clear commandments to the Israelites, Solomon married many foreign wives.
3. These foreign wives worshipped false gods, and in order to honor them, Solomon built high places of worship all over Israel where these false gods could be worshipped. 1 Kings 11 recounts this tragic reality.
4. As a result, the worship of false gods became rampant in the land.
5. Because of the worship of false gods, God pronounced judgment on the nation of Israel, and it was divided into two kingdoms after Solomon’s death.
6. Rehoboam, one of Solomon’s sons, took the Southern Kingdom of Judah, which consisted of 2 tribes, and Jeroboam, one of Solomon’s officials, took the Northern Kingdom, which consisted of 10 tribes.
7. Because Jeroboam was afraid many of his people would defect to Rehoboam’s kingdom by going to Jerusalem to worship God in the temple there, he introduced false gods into the northern tribes of Israel.
8. Jeroboam erected two golden calf altars at Bethel and Dan for his people to worship at instead of going to the temple in Jerusalem. He told his people that these golden calves were the gods who led them out of Egypt.
9. Several kings later, King Ahab, king of the Northern Kingdom, married a foreign wife named Jezebel, who worshipped the false gods of Baal (a male god) and Asherah (a female god). Jezebel promoted worship to these false gods by employing countless prophets of Baal and Asherah. She even supported them financially and fed them at her royal table.
10. Mt. Carmel was one of the key high places in Israel where the people worshiped Baal and Asherah.
12. Baal and Asherah were the gods of the weather. It was for this reason God sent a drought and then later sent rain. By doing so, He showed He was the true God of the weather and everything else. Baal worship was originally from the Canaanite nations God drove out because of their extreme wickedness.

Kings 1 chapter 18 verse 21 , when Elijah gather all the Baal prophets on Mt Carmel he told then , if the God of the Israelites is the true God , go serve him , if the God of Baal is the true God go serve him then the verse continues and says “they did not answer” then in verse 39 after the fire came from heaven and consumed everything the verse states the nation ( only the Israelites) fell on there face and chanted God of the Israelites is the true God, then in verse 40 Elijah slaughter ALL of these false prophets.
How could it be not one of these false prophets were moved by this miracle and declare the God of the Israelites is the true God?

Jews understand that the sacrifices were atonement offerings (for failing trials) by individuals (the first and best fruits of their efforts). For each sin without complete and personal atonement there is punishment (first tribulation, then reincarnation or hell); nobody can negotiate nor be absolved of sin. The idea that god would take the form of the messiah, or that mashiach can be defeated, or that merely by recognizing mashiach you would be absolved of past/future sin is blasphemy. The Jews believe Jesus was a tzadik, a sage. It is typical for sages to die quickly after achieving miracles because their soul has been corrected. The purpose of life is for every soul to face trial/tribulation to be corrected in order to reflect and revere the glory of god. There are mathematical patterns embedded throughout the Torah that are not present in the new testament proving differing origin. The Jews are the chosen people and as such may never truly fall from the path - a living witness (the sons/daughters of) god. The Jews are continuous evidence the covenant remains in force upon humanity, meaning everyone is intended to follow the majority of the 613 commandments of Torah. If Jesus is mashiach, he came before the souls underwent sufficient correction, and should return. Christians that have been sparked towards the ways of Torah should pray for guidance to reveal the answers they seek.

Hello, Pastor Todd. Today, I'm a new subscriber. I'm wondering if you might be able to answer a question I have. It seems that the monastery of St. Mary of Carmel was named for Mary because of the cloud that appeared as a small hand. Is there a Biblical connection between a small hand and Mary? I don't understand. If you haven't time to answer, it's OK. I understand you must be very busy. Thank you for your work. I believe there are multiple portions of faith/grace. Forgiveness, righteousness, holiness and "the good part" promised to Mary of Bethany. My husband accepted forgiveness minutes before he died. He didn't get to live long enough to live righteously. I hope he made it.

All you have to do is look at the issues involved Elisha is representing Jehovah the other prophets regents there God NOW the contest starts ....the false prophets fail now Elisha pours water all over his sacrifice and Jehovah responds with fire from Heaven and destroys everything so what is the lesson. ... the false God's of this World found in Chrisendom etc are silent ..false however the issue is to render worship to the TRUE GOD and just like in Elisha struck day and our day Jehovah still is the only trust God Matt chapt 28 : v 18 v19 v20

I built an altar for tee God (YWHW) and askel Him to light a fire underneath it but there was no fire. I doubt if He Hans Anu power lehti and I consider makuina an altar to Baal next to see if He Hans Anu power.

David asked that God would not take His Holy Spirit away from him so it appears that those in the Old Testament had the Holy Spirit as well. Maybe in a different sense than us today, but they still had it.

Quran 4:159 refers to Elijah/Elias. And who is best to explain such prophecy or matter but Elias himself, the reincarnated Elijah, by God's authority.
