- 2014 Vw Golf overheating issue... Another switchable water pump fail .
A regular customer family member drove about 250 miles down south when his Vw Golf started overheating, he mention the car would overheat if he drive faster than 50 mph then he would have to stop and wait until the vehicle cool down , he also mentioned he couldn't hear the cooling fan running.
After some investigation I've noticed no coolant flow on the return to the expansion tank , unfortunately having a switchable water pump a common reason for overheating , easy decision in the end .
I will be uploading videos here regularly sharing my experiences working around cars on my driveway, exposing issues, auto repair, auto electric, oil changes, services, projects and more...
Cheers 👍

Can you share the part number for the replacement? Seems like a better option with metal impeller and no sleeve.
Не буде кипіння в двигуні. Україна вдячна вам за допомогу.❤
well illustrated
I have the same problem on my 2018 Skoda Superb. It was only intermittent so I tried to unplug the solenoid ( so it never actuate the sleeve over the impeller ) It did not cause a fault code, and it never overheated afterwards. It is a temporary fix until I manage to book it in.
Surely it will work perfectly unplugged no need to repalce?
Would this fault throw up code p16c1
Super informative
These problems also should apply to VW Jettas for leaking thermostat housings and water pumps. Using some plastic parts inside water pumps was part of the cause. Plastic impeller in water pumps was common with allot of the model VW vehicles. Real Smart VW engineers. Should have their heads examined! The estimated labor work os 3-4 hours or more and junky expensive parts..
I had the exact same issue. Try put aftermarket pump without the stupid pump design that restrict flow of coolant. Less moving parts, less electronics....the better.
My car is golf 2.0tdi 2014 model. I have on the clock 104k miles.
I had the original time belt + water pump replaced at 66k miles (after 5 years), and I have another kit fitted today after 4 years and 38k miles.
This design is shit. VW know about this and they dont recall it.
I went there and in 2 hours they knew exactly what the problem is and is a problem that was intermitten.... They know this is failing every around 45k miles. Is a £900 job as I always change timing belt as well...bastards
Probably not a great idea using your phone to record yourself speeding while driving on UK roads... 🤦🏻♂️😂
Can we just disconnect the switch to stop it from operating before it goes faulty 🤔
How's she goin'? Intersting video Igor. This sounds like it is a weak point. I wonder why Volks Wagon hasn't addressed it. Oh well. It means a paying customer for you eh!! Take care!!!
I think I have the same problem with my A3 1.6 Cayc 105hp , same problems however I don't have any heating inside the cabin. Is that usual symptom with water pump failure or not ?
I'll change it anyway tomorrow and we will see but I am just curious.
I think is an electric water pump for heating and egr
@@alinduta5398 it was heater matrix at the end
Your car has an electric heater during warmup cycle, once coolant reaches adequate temp a heater core in your cooling system circuit should take over providing heat, unfortunately the likely culprit on this vehicle is a stopped up heater core if you have no heat.
@@Luketech21 it turns out to be matrix heater st the end. Completely fixed the issue . Heat works perfect and car is not overheating anymore

Nice job mate. What are the best brands for the water pump and timing belt to use?
Hi, can you tell me how much cooling fluid comes out of the hose into the header tank when the rpm is raised as on mine it looks the same as that one (once you replaced it) but when I increase the rpm it stops flowing. Thanks Steve.
Sorry, forgot to thank you for a great video. Ive heard that diesels are more tolerant of overheating than petrols..I suppose I just stop and let engine cool down to stop overheating.
That's a lot of work for a waterpump... you are making it look easy these days mate.... nice work !!!
Cheers mate … it feels that way mate I guess putting my head down and getting on with the work is paying off , I have probably done about 5 timing belt job with this generation of engine just in the last 3 weeks 👍🍻
@@CarsExposed jeezzz you are busy... best problem to have...😀

Hi this pump seems to work like a thermostat, do they still have thermostats?
Hi do you think I could drive the car with a stuck waterpump back to my house without seizing the engine? I understand the issue but if I drive it carefully will the fan deal with the possible overheating engine? I am buying a car with this issue and wonder if i will seize it on the way home..!!!
It's possible, but you need to keep a close eye on the temperature gauge and make sure the engine does not overheat. The water pump is not moving coolant around, so the fan being on will not make any noticeable difference.
You need to see if the cambelt is moving or not, as the water pump pulley does not rotate, the cambelt while sliding on it will create friction and heat the cambelt itself, this may affect your cambelts structure and rotating capability which could lead to a catastrophy of your engine timing, bent valves therefore a thousand pound cost or even a new engine.
👍👍👍
Great video good to know its no only me that struggles with that belt top cover.
Oh man tell me about it , the first time I did one with the 2 exhaust pressure pipe took me about 45 min to remove the top cover without breaking it 😊👍
Hi. Great video as always. It's been some while but I was wondering whether you will upload any more videos as I am sure you have a number of exciting projects to share.? Cheers. P.S. Have a wonderful 2023 to you and your family 😀
This is has just happened to my 2018 Skoda superb (TDI) from what I've read it's a common issue. I ain't paying skoda shit. My cars done 40k miles it should not fail so they can replace it for free.
Skoda 2017 with 90k miles, the same problem. I am starting to learn more about cars now :D
@@olivercarapina7887 I ended up arguing with Skoda for an entire week. And they refused to accept responsibility even though in the US VW are being sued for this issue. Sickens me. Got it done privately. £440...but it was this issue.
@@NoGGy I looked now how much it would cost me here and it is around 200€ with timing belt which is less than I expected.
I had Skoda Fabia before and changed water pump after 11 years so this disappointed me that people are changing it after 2-3 years...
@@olivercarapina7887 here in India, skoda charges 560 euros for timing kit replacement of skoda Octavia 1.9 tdi.
