A Unique Island Christmas: Nicobarese Carol Rounds and Traditions.

Christmas arrives early in the pristine island of Car Nicobar. The Nicobarese tribe here starts preparation of its age old tradition of carol rounds from November. As December arrives, the all night carol singing groups go around the Carnicobar Island taking the spirit of Christmas to all the villages. Groups even visit other islands in the Nicobar group of Islands for the round. In olden times, the groups used to go around on bicycles and even on foot to other villages, and on traditional boats to other islands. The tradition survives in all its vibrancy to this day for the lucky few, who can reach the Nicobar Islands, to witness. Here is a glimpse of one such carol singing night in the Nicobarese culture!
