  • i also suggest using some of my older videos to help you remove the battery and upper accessories if you need the help
    This is a full DIY on removing the transmission, clutch and rear main seal.
    I highly suggest 2 jacks, a set of jack stands and a friend to do this because it involves heavy lifting.
    I am sorry that some of the video is really dark, we did not have proper lighting while we were working on the car. more towards the end of the video there is very good lighting and you can see how most of it comes out.

    Pinche, I owe you a beer man.
    Just completed this exact job using this video... First time doing a clutch. I went for a new dmf instead of the single mass conversion, keeping it stock. Only really referred to the manual for torque specs. Old clutch was metal on metal, new clutch feels so good and shifting is great. Jetta '04 1.8t 5spd manual right hand drive.
    When the man says pull the cups off the transmission... you pull the cups off the transmission.

    Taking the cup off the passenger's side (where the passenger's axle connects to the transmission) is a really good idea. Don't really have to worry about oil coming out, unless you put the transmission at a really extreme angle. Makes the transmission removal so much easier. Nice point!
    I have an engine hoist, so lowered the transmission with that, the balance point is pretty close to the clutch slave cylinder bolt hole nearest to the firewall, so you can hook your chain there. I like that, since no way can the transmission fall off anything, since it is hanging!

    Thanks so much al, this video was a big help tonight. Did my first ever trans job by myself! I didn't have to remove the axle cup, didn't hang up on the subframe. I did however remove the bracket for the Trans mount which gave me more room to slide the Trans away from the engine before lowering and completely clear the subframe. Thing practically fell right out

    I just changed mine over the weekend. From standard clutch, to a stage 2 clutch and lighter flywheel. 1st torgueing the flywheel to 45 pounds was feelinc wrong, so did a little under that. And the pressureplate had some washers, i should never had put them on, since now when i start the car. The starter is hitting them so im hoping the washers on Day just break in pieces and rattles out the clutch housing one Day. Other than that, i did not take the cups off. Cause they didnt really give me a problem. And last Thing, My gear linkage was different, so i took it apart a little different Way then you. And that made My gear change different but Also better :D So thank you for the guide, it helped alot :)

    • @dragolian50
      @dragolian50 5 лет назад

    • @PincheALsGarage
      @PincheALsGarage  5 лет назад +2

      The bolts are one time use. They are called stretch bolts or torque to yield. I can gurantee you they will fall off. After a couple days or week of driving it. That is why they have a 1/4 turn after you torque them down to 45lbs... Your axel bolts are torqued down to 45lbs and that is it. But the fly wheel is a whole other can of worms sir. I wish you luck.

    If you may give your input on the crank seal section:
    I've read horror stories of people swapping a perfectly good crank seal only to have the new one leak on them.
    Do you believe in the idea of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" for this part? Or are you confident the new seal kit and your ATV silicon application will do the trick?

      Kevin A timing is not needed for the flywheel to go on. Unless your reaplacing your belt as well but you for that just use the timing marks on the cam pulley and the lower timing cover.

      PincheAls Garage thanks! I did make a paint mark and saw it pretty much lined up like it was supposed to.... was kinda trying to get it done quick! And still not done cause my torque wrench took a shit on me! I got the seal on pretty easily. It slid right on.... mine had this plastic cup holding it upen a little and as you slid it on the plastic piece came out and the seal sat perfectly in place. Was a felpro gasket from advanced auto. If that matters.... everything else is tha same as your video though... Ecs stage 1. Car has 185k miles and looks like same original clutch... or whoever did it before let the dealership do it and they got reamed for oem.

    • @PincheALsGarage
      @PincheALsGarage  Год назад +1

      Did you see where it's leaking from?
      If it's leaking from the crank you need to be careful sliding the seal over if it has a small fold or crease it will leak. Hopefully you use the provided slide tool that most good MFGs provide. If it's leaking from the block you need to clean the surface very well and make sure you don't have any scratches or else it will leak. Last but not least if it's leaking from the oil pan you need to add a tiny bit of RTV on the edges of the seal to help with that.
      I hope this helps

    • @cheems222
      @cheems222 Год назад +1

      @PincheALsGarage figured out the problem, first time it was the seal folding over, second time the seal needed rtv. Thank you very much man!

      +Peter Harrold 1st double check the speed sensor on the back lwft of the trans. Many people forget this sensorband damage it all the time. If its plugges in then unplug it and check if the speed sensor pin is in. Its also common when the sensor is unplugged that the pin falls out.

    • @PincheALsGarage
