  • Thats right! I go over the steps I take to remove the 1.8 liter turbo engine with the 5 speed transmission attached. This video works for most mk4 Volkswagens (e.g. Jetta, Golf, Jetta Wagon) and it works for all the different engine classes (e.g. 1.8T, vr6, TDI) give or take a few steps. I tried to do a commentary video on this one so hang in there, trying new things! Ill say I need a new mic before you say it 😂

Making this timestamp list for myself, but might be handy for anyone else studying this video!
    01:00 Remove wheels
    01:17 Remove axles from transmission
01:40 Remove grill, front bumper, intercooler tubing, front support bolts
03:13 Empty coolant, disconnect radiator + wiring, remove front support
04:34 Remove battery+tray (note to self: probably do this first)
04:45 Disconnect wiring harness + move aside (note to self: label everything)
05:57 Remove intercooler tubing from turbo
remove shift cable bracket/slave cylinder from trans
06:41 Remove power steering lines from pump + trans
    Remove dogbone mount
    disconnect fuel lines
06:59 Summon Trevor to help get engine on hoist
    Disconnect motor mount bolts
    Carefully remove engine...

I appreciate all the info! I got a built motor in my 04 that I wrecked and I bought a 04 GTI golf that has a broken stud in the head so I’m wanting to swap everything over but it looks so challenging especially with the hex’s and allens along with all the crazy vw stuff. My old one also has Raxels.

Try using a ball head 6 mm Allen key socket with a universal joint, preferably with a 1/4 inch ratchet. Also make sure to remove the dust cover on the transmission, held in by 2 13 mm bolts

Can you not drop the engine from the bottom?

I did this on a Mk5 - I seem to remember I could just unplug the loom from the ECU rather than disconnect all the individual sensors etc. Is that not possible on the Mk4?

Great tutorial, man. I just have to ask, did you not have an air conditioning?

    • @jhendy1967
      @jhendy1967  Год назад

I do not have air conditioning. The refrigerant was taken out with an AC machine at some point in its life. MUST REMOVE REFRIGERANT BEFORE DISCONECTION OF AC LINES.

This will work for 1999-2005. Slight differences between vr6, 1.8t, and tdi but relatively the same
