I live in the TL and have seen many podcasts about homelessness. I never-ever see any of the actual residents of the Tenderloin interviewed. It’s usually someone who is sober now who works with the Homeless. They impact our community so much! -Especially families with children. Why should we have to put up with the drugs and loud music at all hours?
Expecting non-profits to improve the homelessness situation is like expecting Tyson to improve the living conditions of chickens. Can we please stop giving these scammers a platform every time you do a segment on homelessness?
Make jails and mental institutions great again. When someone is screaming at people, buildings, and storefronts- that's not humane. They need to be committed and stay there. Drug users - mandatory rehab and jail time. Down on luck? Housing options with work mandates. The "one size fits all" approach doesn't work, nor does the SF "homeless Inc 501c3's" which only serve to pay bloated salaries with no accountability. Tax paying residents have rights. We deserve clean, safe streets and no more filth and vagrancy. It's about time the tax paying residents and businesses got these things.
i would love to know what the ceo of glide makes a yr, probably between 1 to 2 million bucks. the reason why i bring this up is because they need homelessness to continue to get paid. they don't want to solve the problem; they want the problem to continue so they continue to get paid.
How do you have options? When we’re paying for it. Human being or not. You have less options with somebody else has to foot the bill.. I’m not responsible for some of the choices in life you have made. I have empathy… it’s this or that! And one more thing, those nonprofits are horrible. They offer no rational solutions.. almost like nonprofit for the sake of being nonprofits.
the homeless issue is unsolvable. If you treat them well, homeless from other states or even other countries will flood into SF. You will have unlimited homeless people to deal with.
It will never be solved as long as housing is treated as a commodity/investment rather than shelter. Landlords (and just land owners in general) will always appose making housing affordable either through law or building more units because they want profits
Permanent supportive housing doesn't work, without accountability of the person, but sf would never hold them accountable because there is no enforcement for them to engage in services 1. Make them wait the 30 day for EBT they get them the same day. 2. Cut all cash aid aka CAAP
Nothing is going to change until people realize that our homelessness issue and our abandoned buildings issue could easily cancel each other out and for much cheaper than tackling each issue alone.
has nothing to do with no buildings, a lot of them choose to be on the street so they can freely use their drugs and escape when cops come. you really think they want to be inside if there are rules about drug use?
@ot7stan207 "a lot of them" and "times when the homeless population balloons" aren't the same thing. Economic factors are the primary cause of homelessness, not drugs. The new wave of homelessness wasn't caused by the fentynal epidemic, it was caused by the response during the covid pandemic. The economy tanked and a few million Americans became homeless. The same thing happened in 2008 and 2013... when the economy tanked and the housing market collapsed.
Right now thousands of people who were homeless, most of them drug addicts, are being housed in formerly boutique tourist hotels with private bathrooms- FREE FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES. There are absolutely no requirements they have to meet, there is no timetable for them to become self-supporting. This is unsustainable. It incentivizes homelessness. It is the wrong approach.
That's because the usual response is to push them out of county and let someone else deal with em. My county recently did this. Now we don't have a homeless problem... but the three counties around us saw their homeless populations jump by 6 to 10 times. No one's made a serious attempt to solve the issue since the great depression.
I love how Gavin Gruesome flip flopped and pretended to be tough on quality of life issues to help his buddy Kamala. Too bad it didn't work. Stop enabling and start doing the hard work to force these people to accept help.
An industry has developed around homelessness whose purpose is to extract tax dollars from the residents of the state of California.
The Homeless Industrial Complex
An Industry worth billions....
You would gag if you saw how large some CE0 and salaries are in non profits

Lived in the TL for 5 years. Most law abiding resident of the TL wants sweeps. Its time to take harsh action.
Expecting non-profits to improve the homelessness situation is like expecting Tyson to improve the living conditions of chickens. Can we please stop giving these scammers a platform every time you do a segment on homelessness?
Stop giving enabler like Jennifer of Coalition of Homelessness a platform, because she’s a part of the problem, and not a solution.
You are ignorant. She doesn’t cause Homelessness
@dianethulin1700 you're right, she perpetuates it.
well homelessness has never been the problem. the problem is enabling drug dealers and drug addicts... the problem is DRUG
If your don’t want to be forced inside how about shelter or jail? That’s the tough option
That is so sad to see San Francisco in this state, it was such a beautiful city!

Arrest illegal users and illegal migrants. All have broken the law.
They got no room for em.

SF homeless is a major problems for CA. Billions and billions of dollars go down the drain’s not helping the homeless

Politicians keep ignoring the real problem. Affordable low income housing. Senior housing. Forced drug and mental health treatment.
🙄. Enough of trying to solve these problems with your heart. This is a disciplinary issue.
Why don’t just let the homeless people clean and sweep the streets and then pay them as a job . Win win

SHELTER OR JAIL

Yes because activist and old hippie citizens will not permit the problem to be solved.
Bigot. Why don't you just say it, bro. You want to liquidate the homeless so they don't exist anymore. Truly evil sht.
Using illegal drugs is simply illegal. Arrest all illegal users.
@@Johnwicker1903 so you house the former homeless in prisons at a cost to the taxpayers of $50-$75,000/year?
In the last 6,000 years, I'm pretty sure a person or two came up with a decent plan to combat homelessness.

yes, the mayor can eliminate homelessness until he found out that he got more money from various programs by having homeless people around.
“Everybody thinks it’s dangerous”…bc it is!
Not until he changes for the people!!!

That first guy meant I wanna still do what I wanna do e.g. drugs, drinking etc.
Is there a solution? Yes. Offer them three options: Pay for your accommodation, stay in a shelter, or go to jail.
As long as there are groups that sue cities for a person's "right" to remain homeless, then no mayors can not tackle homelessness.

I thought that's what urban alchemy is supposed to do but its nice to see them being treated like humans
Unless the nimby generation goes away, we won’t build much more housing. Sf and the Bay Area should all dream to look like Japan

probably not, but rich aristocrats are more shocked by poverty than a middle-class shopkeeper's daughter with no empathy or humanity.
Create a program for them to do farm labor - work for housing and drug detox
No chance of that’s what you got
