Who Am I?
I am a Management Consultant in real life but in my Bootlosophy channel, I make videos about boots and all things boot related. This channel posts reviews of boots, unboxing of new boots, and follow-up reviews, and in doing so, may explore the philosophy of the brands from time to time!
I have owned boots for decades, but to be honest I have owned them as functional pieces of footwear. It wasn't until early 2020 when COVID struck that I started online shopping for boots to an obsessive degree. I love the aesthetic of boots and I love finding out more about how they are made. I now own an insane number of boots, and one day I may sell some of them (just not right now).

Another great video!! Thanks for the amazing info for brands. It can be a real hassle sometimes, and as I'm looking for new boots the sizing is the biggest hurdle
Your size comparison videos are so incredibly helpful. I love them! 👍 I haven’t seen anyone else doing this kind of video.
People like you, Dale and Nick are a great source brother. Thank you for sharing this information, it is much appreciated!!!
Thank you very much for the information, Teikoh. I really, really appreciate you sharing your experience and point of view.
Once again, a thoroughly enjoyable and informative exposition on a truly important mind-bending subject. Thank you~~
Appreciate this video. I was thinking about the recent MTO from Caswell for the Olive Chromexcel Lisbon, and realized I have no information on Caswell sizing other than their website. So this video is well timed. Agreed, sizing is stressful with online purchases. Especially if you wait four months for a boot, it doesn't fit, and you have to find another offering from the maker to get your money's worth. Thanks, Teik.
Awesome video idea! Thanks for posting! One thing I would like to say is sock thickness can play havoc in your sizing. And you are absolutely right that everyone sizes a bit different. Even uppers and leather choices can make a difference.
At the end of the day listen to your feet and I urge everyone to wear a thin enough sock initially, that you can tell if you are heel locking or not.
I have found out the hard way that I size true to size in most boots despite it not being the norm. Otherwise due to the way my feet are I tend to run out of length when walking. I've even been measured for bespoke footwear, had multiple Brannock measurments both standing and sitting. In-step, Ball, Waist, Heel to ankle, and legs measured. 11.5D is usually my to size except I am actually a 12D in Oak Street's in their Elston last.
The it's Kilties or eventually insoles to take up volume.
Very few boot models can I take a half size down in. It is more of an issue of footshape issue rather than anything else. But for the average person you can do that.
I'm an 11.5C but I run out of toe length in most 11D's, so go figure. I have to buy 11.5D most times.
Bespoke footwear I size like the rest of everyone. Some footwear even a full size down. The key is custom cutting the uppers.
this is a wonderful explanation of sizing between brands, you sum up the challenges and difficulties perfectly!! every maker uses a different scale. for practicality, i think every maker should know how their boots sizing compares to redwing as the standard, but unfortunately not every brand knows this!! and thanks for the shoutout Teik!!!
very well put together!
Great info. Thanks for sharing.
Great video teik , I’m waiting on a pair of Bordons & very wary of the size when they finally arrive..very expensive exercise all the way from Australia , fingers crossed 🤞
I appreciate the time you took explaining the different sizes. I’ve found that I’m a half size to a whole size down depending on the manufacturer of the boot. In Thursday’s diplomat, I’m true to size. I tried a half size down and my toes were tingly. I think I’m a whole size down in the captain’s, although the cap toe does apply a lot of pressure to the sides of my feet. I think I’ll try the president next at a whole size down. I’m hoping the lack of a cap toe will give my toes more room to breathe.
I’m new to the boot game and I have had so much trouble in sizing. It can really get ya down, thanks for the great info hopefully I can find my right size without wasting too much money lol
Love this video. I agree it is stressful trying to get the right size online. With the wait times most PNW boot makers have it certainly becomes even more of a headache to have to return a pair that doesnt fit.
Ordered Truman boots in December, didn’t fit, replacement came in March, didn’t fit, next replacement comes…🤷🏼♂️ I’m sure they are worth the wait though, beautiful boots.
@@SR-ob3wn Dang dude. I'm having second hand panic. I just ordered a pair myself. And I have a very wide foot so I'm hoping I got the right boot. I'm an 8.5 E Brannock so I went with an 8.0 EE on their site. They should be here in 4-6 weeks.
@@zacharyybarra7676 If you have ANY doubts when they arrive, reach out to them. Truman was very helpful in helping with my sizing issues and the return process was easy. The downside is return shipping is paid out of pocket.
I bought a pair of Canada West Romeo’s in a 8.5 3E and my foot is a 10.5 between D and C with
I grew up in Maine. Where LL Bean is a way of life. & My little feet (Brannock size 7) don't even fit the smallest size they make. Which is labeled 7 & runs a whole size large. I might try a children's 6 & see if those will fit.
I ordered some Jim green stockmans in the same size as my African rangers. When I added my orthotics they fit snug and are almost uncomfortably snug at an end of the day test fit (when our feet are most swollen, right?). How tight should a work oriented Chelsea be? It’s my first go at a slip on boot and I’m not sure what I should be going for fit wise.
Thanks and I really enjoy the content you put out!
I agree with you, sizing blindly is a challenge, e.g. I am a 9.5D/E on a Brannock device.... my feet are 26.7cms long and on the cusp of wide, however my sizing in boots is all over the place...... I am generally one size up from you Teik, but get this, i am 8G in RMW chelseas, same as you....,, I like a really snug fit around the vamp in by boots, and I have skinny ankles, so I need to size down in Chelsea boots to get the "firm handshake"... what this demonstrates to me is that length and width are just a part of getting a good fit, volume, arch, ankles etc all play a part, and at times can be the limiting factor....... great vid
Excellent video, Teik. Sizing is absolutely maddening. So odd to me as well, that bootmakers are frustrated with buyers as well. Exchanges must be a huge source of overhead for them as well.
true but most don'f have brick and mortar stores so the boot makers are more than willing to accept the hassles of returns. and that is why i know my correct size with iron rangers!
White's are going to have the massively built up heel counter structure, so the distance from the back of your heel to the back of the boot is going to be greater than most of the other boots.
i'm used to that Whites heel, i burst the stitches on another boot taking it off by stepping on it haha
Excellent video! I’m looking to get my first pair of RM Williams. I haven’t ordered due to question of sizing. I wear a 10 in Oakstreet Bootmakers and a 10EE in Lucchese. My foot is wide, and I’m located in the U.S. Any advice on what size RM’s I should consider? Thanks, keep up the awesome vids.
RM sizes are UK so take a 9.5
Great video! I'm having trouble getting a boot that fits my narrow feet and ankles that seem to slip. I feel like I'm always lacing my boots super tight. Any advice on a good brand and shoe model for a stylish business casual/dress boot? I saw Allen Edmonds makes narrow versions of some of their boots for example. Anyone have similar issues or know any good choices for me? Thanks!
damn... I really wish you held up the Viberg 2030 to the White's MP.. I'm really trying to confirm what I need for Viberg sizing.. would you say I should size it the same way I do most PNW boots then...?
btw T.., I just uploaded my first ever boot review on my channel.. on the White's LTT Lineman 350 Cutter from Division Row.. and I just shot another video,, this time on the Drew's Logger boot.. I'll hopefully have the video edited and uploaded later during the week.. thanks for all your great video work..
lastly,, is there a certain outsole you prefer on Viberg? between the Dainite and Ridgeway..
The MP is longer. I take a 7.5 in Viberg, an 8 in MP
you are a mind reader! i was going ask this very question today on your previous video. will say i am 8 1/2 but EE and high instep. i envy your 8 1/2 D! 😊
Excellent video! If you get into vintage shoes or combat-type boots, it gets even more complicated...or less complicated. ;) I recently became interested in a pair of Canadian military boots that use the Mondopoint sizing method, where I determined my size to be 285/116. That seems strange until you decode the measurements, the 285 means 28.5 cm in length, the 116 means 11.6 cm in width. I like this system!
Now THAT makes sense!
I know Blundstone 1/2 sizes are merely broader but I thought RM actually does half sizes. Why would they otherwise offer H width. Rossi boots, still made in Australia, does half sizes.
Nice videos 👍🏼
Size comparison
What kinda sole is that on the RMW?
This is TRUE.
Somebody had to do it, brother!😁
👍Top video …….. Which size Thursday Captain you wear ?
Thursday 8 standard
What do you think are the best boots underneath the $250 price range? Specifically in wide E sizing? Thank you!
Not being an E I can’t really comment, but Thursday are always worth a look for their boots that have a wide size.
@@Bootlosophy Tysm!
Very complex. Perhaps the answer is perfecting the technology of getting custom-fitted, so that costs come down, so everyone can afford custom/sized boots!
Why can’t boot makers etc. just give us the true insole measurement. Cm or inches, every we can handle that. It’s so simple, it’s stupid. 💙
Right?
What brands make C width boots?
Haven't a clue 😁
True. I’ve got some RMW .. notorious for their sizing . None of them are fitting perfect… either small or tight .. can’t visit their showrooms .. very rude staff ..
My experience too - it’s like the staff are trained to treat you like you can’t afford to buy their boots
@@Bootlosophy completely agree. I do collect boots and dress shoes . Been to their DFO in Sydney too, sad to say it’s not the place someone want to go and try. Frankly it’s good quality boots , but there better options out there like Rossi , Baxter horseman ,Kununurra , Harold grazier etc ( whole cut Chelsea) .. now I simply avoid RMW.. not true value for money , Rude sales staff .. it’s not worth the struggle.. also for same price point carmina , grandstone , etc available..
Try your sneaker size instead of your boot size. I think they are over priced for what they are though.
@@SR-ob3wn yes they are overpriced
Man I hate this. It’s a fantastic video, of course, but it gives me anxiety all over again ordering boots I haven’t tried on in person and especially ordering MTO boots that take several months to get to me
You and us all over the internet!
Hey ; this is a bit overdramatic,
This works for teak…. The more complicated you make it the more complicated it becomes,
I have 100 pairs of boots myself. But everyone’s fit is differtertt
Tek, I've found sizing in European boots and UK sizing rather easy. The US sizing, especially in the Pacific Northwest boots is so stressful. Maybe it has something to do with being from the commonwealth!!
