  • Specialized skills and pattern recognition are essential strengths in many areas of the CAF. As LCol Trevor Semeniuk, a neurodivergent individual, explains, it’s important to recognize such talented individuals, keep them engaged, and let them do what they do best. #MyCAFStory

It’s been great seeing videos like this because the CAF is a tapestry made of many different kinds of individuals. They may be soldiers first, but there’s real people beneath the CADPAT!
    Thanks for your service.

I'm glad they're sharing information like this now. I was diagnosed with ADHD and the 'tism after I'd already completed my basic and initial trades qualification training and I was too ashamed to tell anyone in my unit because I was embarrassed and I didn’t want it to become a problem. In hindsight a) I don't think anyone would have cared that much and b) there is no way no one had figured it out because it turns out I'm very bad at hiding it.
I ended up getting medically released in 2016 (blood clots in my lungs) and a part of me wishes I could re-enlist. It was hard at times, but there's a lot about it that I miss. (being an Aspie woman is also somehow more uncomfortable in a civilian workplace a lot of the time. I definitely got included socially more with my old unit)

As a neurodivergent NCM in CAF I have found the occupation very mentally taxing. I have felt left out and segregated off by my peers and various parts of the CoC. I think the experience will vary heavily based on how your particular type of neurodivergent traits appear to others. As someone who has been singled out by their CoC as 'difficult' and having been told (sometimes as written counselling) I have to 'learn how to get along better' with superiors and peers regularly I can attest that there is still a good deal of soldiers in CAF that do not really understand the traits of neurodivergence. There is a reason why its called masking... and it is an exhausting and sometimes very depressing way to live. I would not recommend an occupation in CAF to others with neurodivergence at this time; however, there are some traits of the job that can be appealing to us.. but it can be pretty isolating.

As a soon to be officer cadet I appreciated your comment. I have a neurodivergent niece and know that I would never want them to feel isolated like that. I wish there was a book written by someone like you about being neurodivergent in the military! Something to consider if you're a writer. 😁

      Hi there,
Only a qualified medical professional would be able to determine the extent of a condition and if it would preclude you from joining the CAF.
For medical inquiries, it would be best to contact your local recruiting centre's medical staff. During the application process, recruiting medical personnel will assess your medical situation. A complete medical examination is necessary when assessing medical fitness for the Forces. At that time, the Forces will be able to determine if any existing medical conditions would preclude you from joining. This is also important when restrictions may limit the career choices being considered.
If you have specific medical questions, please contact the recruiting detachment nearest to you and ask to speak with a member of the medical staff directly.

Thinking differently can be powerful or important. Eg: Could Scotland's Adrok kindly verify that Rome's port, 200 AD, was about 40 meters higher than today's sea levels?
Background: The natural rhythm for sea levels is about 40 meters +/- over millennia, and of course much greater over tens of thousands of years. Civilizations built on ports end when their ports are high and dry or submerged. Obviously tax payers don't pay for ports designed for such large fluctuations in sea levels. If you check out Troy, and other old ports, it's the same damn thing? I'm writing to Adrok because Scotland always had to be smarter than England in order to survive. Ukraine's new ports need to be designed for fluctuations in sea levels.
We know from old photographs, Icefields Parkway, Canadian Rockies, that massive global warming, measured in centuries, was going on before industrialization, and it's still going on which suggests we'll reach the high water mark, sea levels 40 meters higher than today. Obvious questions are when and how to replace our ports.
    Verify or rebut.
It appears NASA et al are great at precision science & engineering and weak in fuzzy, complex and statistical science , engineering and structures. Would the AI community KINDLY take a trip to the ancient port site indicated and verify it's about 40 meters higher than current sea levels, physically inspect it, then check the assumptions in Climate Change foundational scientific papers. The old school climate scientists seem like a bunch of Socratic scientists arguing over horse teeth if they failed to inspect this, and the many, many sites referred to in the Bible, archeology, marine archeology and so forth. DID DEEPMIND ANCIENT LITERATURE TEAM MISS THIS TOO? Hey Yosh, how long can you swim? Why don't you come over to the amii high ground?
NASA spends huge amounts on massive inSAR satellite constellations instead of looking at physical evidence that's available cheaper?
Nobel Prize committee is so stodgy and sclerotic they shun AI and now they have to ask AI to save them. Sigh.

Hey Canadian Forces, why don't I ever see posts about how combat ready the CAF are, or how superbly well equipped they are? I'm starting to think of the CAF as some sort of social engineering program.
