I LOVE smash burgers! That is the only way my Momma made them and what I grew up with. It is such a disappointment when someone serves a dried out hockey puck they cooked on the grill with the idea that they need a "char" on them. I just can't force one of them down. Back in the '70s a man asked me if I could find a bread recipe that used both yeast and baking powder. Today I found it! Thank you. Actually your recipe is my mother's yeast roll recipe with baking powder added, a whole egg instead of just the yolk and milk with the warm water instead of just water. Mama taught me to make the dough the night before, put a plate over the bowl and leave it in the fridge overnight. That same dough makes great cinnamon rolls. Now, add a bit of black pepper to the cinnamon. Mama learned that trick when she accidentally spilled some pepper into her cinnamon/sugar mix. Amazing flavor!!

Thanks for rekindling one of my favorite childhood memories. That burger sizzle and the smells associated with it reminded me of stopping with my Dad on his truck route on the backroads of southeast Texas. The best part of the trip was a stop at a diner for a Smashburger, fries and a Coke!

All my life my family has been using propane grills, but this channel has gotten me really interested in cooking with charcoal systems, building fires, and getting that unique flavor with specific types of smoking wood. I'd love to have a bit more hands-on things to do in my life, I hope to one day scrounge up enough for a nice smoker, dutch oven, or griddle.

Two days ago I made smash burgers in the kitchen for my kids. A lot of washing after splashing grease but it was worth it. Topped it off with melted cheese, caramelized chopped onions and Polish special small-salt pickles.
Being in my LATE TEENAGE YEARS I have finally learned WHEN to smash that thang , and it's when it first hits the grill. Sear it and seal in the juices. In my in between years from twentyteen and seventyteen I learned to appreciate the juices left in the burgers between the time they finished cooking and the time to take a bite and enjoy the flavor of the juice from the burger. Thanks for sharing with us Kent and Shannon, you always give out good recipes and videos and we appreciate them and we also appreciate your fantastic cookbooks and seasonings too. Thats my issue with tomatoes. If they arent perfect just leave them off. A soggy mater can destroy a otherwise perfect burger.
When I was in grade school, we used to go from NW OKC to Kingfisher to have smash burgers every so often. The establishment was a shed type of building off of the old saloon; customers walked up, placed the orders and ate in their cars. The man who made them put diced onions in the meat. Watching your video brought back fond memories. Thank you.

What a superb message, and the recipe is great too. I had not found the bun recipe shown before, thanks for that, it will get a run or three. Smash burgers are almost a requirement with a flattop or griddle. They never get old and new twists bring out flavors, as you say "fine dining" including breakfast".

YEAHHHH Shannon gets the answers correct and gets a burger. best cafe burger I ever had came in Minn. from a small lil town, burger came on a plate that came under a coffee cup. mmmm was dang tasty, it was in the early 70's. now I think town has less then 90 people left. Thanks for video.

My dad would’ve loved your channel, he was a man who loved to cook, especially with meats. I’ve been getting in to this channel to try and pick up where he left off with his cooking skills. I don’t think I should eyeball everything like he did though!
Got a yearning for making smashburgers for Labor Day, and now my favorite cooking show is doing the same!
I grew up making burgers the way my great-grandpa taught my grandpa who taught my dad who taught me - big, thick patties. Now I almost exclusively make smashburgers! So jucy, so quick, so easy, so delicious!
