Game over for gas.... Untill you relies you'll be on a even longer wait lost then the model 3 that most TO THIS DAY years later are still waiting for it... And the people that do have a model S, 3, X, and Y also usually still have a gas car in the driveway for when the Tesla inevitably breaks down for something else again... Yeah hunny untill their reliably score can at least beat Fiat/Chrysler, they will only ever be expensive toys instead of reliable primary transportation.
Evey tesla fanboy gushes over all this and ignores the fact if i go on car gurus theres litterally hundreds of low mileage second hand model 3's flooding the used market in the DMV area because their all lemons people ditched once they realized the car spent more time with Tesla for service then in the owners possession. My model 3 was a absolute nightmare, and even if electric is the futuer id sooner buy a elecric car from GM, Hyundai, or wait for the full Ev's mazda and toyota are making together to release before i even buy another Tesla product.
Amazing tech, hindered by some of the most inexperienced manufacturing in the industry.

Hawaii sounds very expensive, but is the most beautiful and exotic slice of the USA. On the mainland, I'd need 500 miles and preferably 800 just to know I can drive anywhere without being stranded or suffering in anxiety and fear about a lack of helpful services and infrastructure. There are still rural gaps in the grid so it still only makes sense as a local city car while most drivers have a gas vehicle. I wish we could go solar and not be solely dependent on the aging power grid powered by the smoky dinosaur fuel. Those shiny new Tesla cars looks so great and not a bit of smoke nor dripping oil and antifreeze is the case. I'm so tired of wading through parking lots full of oil and antifreeze while breathing the funk just tracking that in which why everything is so filthy. They did really well European countries on cleaning up the mess, redefining living standards, and making things work better with set industry standards, but we can't seem to figure it out here where we can't seem to even agree on plug standards.

Given that Tesla sells every $40k+ model that they can produce it would be very difficult to meet the battery and sales demand for a 25k or less vehicle. Many would buy and flip the cars until demand is met. Knowing Tesla though they would probably start with a 40k performance version before offering a long range or base model.

Battery no longer holds a full charge and infotainment system outdated? Drop it off with me, I'l give you a prepaid card with $200 on it and you can be on your way to the nearest dealership! What part of what I said offends you...do you work in the planned obsolesence department of your company? I'd also like a link for your "average of 3 years"...that might be in your country, but for this one it's closer to 8 years and getting longer each time a survey is done. If an EV battery is still capable of 90% of it's range when new at 8 years..that could either be no big deal if the car started with a 400 mile range, or very big deal if it's a low cost EV that started with a range of 150 miles or so. But once again, thats country dependent..I live in Texas where I can drive in virtually the same direction for 9+ hours without leaving the state or doubling back. Oh, and as for savings vs filling up with regular fuel? That depends on several factors..one is the price per gallon, second is how much free time you have to use slower charging which is cheaper than fast charging. Several independent car journalists in the US found that EV's are actually a bit more expensive at this point in time..and electricity charges per kilowatt hour are rising and have been for some time now...faster than gas prices.

If you want to go on a road trip, you can charge it to 100% and have at it (or let the onboard map route you to the nearest charger etc.).

I have a Y and love it. However, as more and more Tesla's flood the market (along with every other EV coming out), the charging ability and network to support them charging on the go will have to exponentially increase. No one wants to drive 15 miles out of their way, and or wait 20 minutes to hook up. Recharging has to become as ubiquitous and easy as filling up a tank of gas. Many of us have home chargers that can do the trick overnight, but not everyone is based at home all the time and getting and keeping a charge while out of your home base might be the new range anxiety.

But, once concern I have is the supercharger network. $25K is very affordable and without enough charging stations, recharging would be a nightmare, longer wait lines can cause chaos on long weekends. People with garage might be in a better spot but, condos, apartments have just 2 - 3 charging ports now. I believe that would not be sufficient.

Charge stations will not necessarily function like gas stations. In South Africa when driving cross country, certain towns, more or less halfway, are popular refueling stops. In stead of stopping once, split your journey in 3, recharge more often with shorter stops and like say 80% charges and avoid lengthy stops.

Are EV's like that low maintenance, don't require oil changes, and just keep going as long as one doesn't hit or get hit? I heard Teslas are guaranteed 1 million miles which is phenomenally good. It's the $10k or $20k battery replacement is why buying one used doesn't make sense. I watched another YT video that said, based on surveys, that there were 3 main obstacles to widespread EV adoption:
      - price (sub $36k) - you can get EV's there now
      - range (over 300 miles) - you can get very close to this right now
      - recharge (under 30 minutes, full charge) = this is the issue
[and the numbers above aren't exact but they are close enough to make recalling them easier]
So yes you can get a sub $36k EV, but it won't have anywhere near 300 mile range, and you can get nearly 300 mile range but the EV will cost much more than $36k AND NEITHER of these will have such a short recharge time. Right now it's basically impossible given current battery technology; even under the most ideal of conditions for an M3 and a V3 charger, it can give you 75 miles in 5 minutes, but only if your current state of charge is low and only for that short period of time - beyond that charging slows significantly due to chemical and physical restraints of the battery technology. The video I reference then goes on to erroneously state that charging to 50% twice under 30 minutes total is the same as charging from 0 to 100% under 30 minutes at once (totally wrong).
Solid state batteries are supposed to be able to charge very quickly, but have limited recharge cycles meaning you'd need some sort of battery swap program. They're also lighter, so you can pack more onto a car to increase range without the incremental loss in range (e.g. you can add range by adding batteries, but these are batteries that are heavy and merely by adding them reduce the range of the existing batteries, so it's a game of diminishing returns).

@@bairdjc There is a decent chance that the IONIQ 5 might be able to deliver on all three counts, if the more optimistic rumours come true. Pricing is set to be between $30k and $40k, making it likely that the long range, rear wheel drive version will be available at around the $36k. Hyundai says it will do 292 miles, but as owners of Hyundai EVs will tell you their cars often deliver more miles than the EPA/WLTP ratings indicate making 300 miles possible for most. The IONIQ 5 is said to be able to go from 10 % to 80 % in 18 minutes, if plugged into a 350 kW CCS charger, which would mean that it in most cases will be able to charge enough to go for at least another two hours before needing to recharge again.
Solid state will be nice, when they arrive, however as the IONIQ 5 proves the current available technology can also deliver what is needed.

We still need other things for it to be "game over". The power grid will have to be vastly expanded; battery degradation over time wil need to be controlled so that these vehicles can be bought used after 15 years and still have usable range; and they will have to have been on the market for that long for people to be able to buy a 15 year old EV for $5,000.
Charging infrastructure will have to expand geometrically as well. Right now a gas station can refuel a car every 3-4 minutes with one pump. To match current capacity with chargers, even if we get to the point where you can fully recharge in 15 minutes, there will have to be 4-5 times the number of charging stations as there currently are pumps. This means more and bigger "gas" stations, a lot more.

@@mrwhips3623 yeah, something like that, but I wouldn't be worry about battery life, LFP is actually more durable than what Tesla is topically using. My issue is more with the price. If Tesla could do a cheap body they would be already milking this cow. I love what Elon has achieved, but in my opinion there is a reason why it takes decades to became a car maker. To make the car cheap, you need to finetoone the process and shave off the cost bit by bit. In fact, the body of the car is more than half of the price, despite evryone thinks it's the battery. Until Tesla figures out how to make cheap body they can not make an affordable car. This is where I think Tesla is far behind the OEMs. All the rest Tesla is dominating.

I’m still waiting for someone to explain how maintenance would work for someone like me who lives 45-60 from the nearest “city”. Would Tesla come and pick my car up and take it to get worked on or would I have to drive hours to the nearest maintenance facility? Would I get a loaner if they did pick it up? Would the loaner be free or would I have to pay? So many questions before I even think of buying any Tesla.

What happens when most of the vehicles on the road are electric, and are also fully controllable by law enforcement, are hackable, are restricted from accessing certain roads, and can be disabled when the “grid” goes down? Scary thought. Ironically, we’d probably be wishing we had a gas powered vehicle at that point. I love the idea and the technology, but unfortunately there is tons of room in the future for it to be exploited in dark ways, and can be used to really lessen our freedom.

Also the grid did go down in my city for days and i was able to idle in my electric car and charge my phone from it. I could go to a friends with solar panels on their roof and charge up my car no problem.

You are thinking properly, and should see these Authoritarian Controls, Rules, Laws Regulations, already in place and are actually illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional.
In addition there are two major concerns about every EV. There is not sufficient infrastructure in place, planned or will be developed properly to support the intended EV switch within the "New Green Deal", UN Agenda", Globalist/Elite Plan-Agenda.
Yes, Your extension of the use, misuse, abuse of these fully controlled vehicles are certainly within the Authoritarian Control Plan.
Also, the production of electrical energy is never properly ascertained, assessed, evaluated, within the concern, plan, development, etc.
Also these EV designs alone are lacking the possible use of electrical energy conversion, thus stored within the vehicle, which could have exterior solar panels, better regeneration, wind turbines, and small ICE using hydrogen, ethanol, methanol, and other renewable energy fuels that have minimal to zero emissions.
A truly well thought out, design will include all together.
Also the production of the storage batteries are significant issues from the rare metals required, to durability, longevity and storage capacity.
Clearly more so, With Elon Musk as the head, publicity of his plan which fits with the "Green Plan Agenda" of the UN, EU, etc. this proves he is just another member or tentacle of the Globalist/Elite Cabal. When We add the other aspects, areas of his involvement from Space-X, micro-chip human implantation, then We see more certain Globalist/Elite Cabal connection and implementation within their Authoritarian Agenda.
The development of this Giga-Plant in Shanghai is another clear, obvious indication of the connection of Elon Musk and Tesla with the UN, Globalist/Elite Cabal Agenda.
Add also the next larger Tera-Plant in Germany in process of building and soon to be operational in the coming year.
WE all have very serious infringement of the Individual Rights and Freedoms within the US Constitution, and Germany's Constitution, perhaps others that have them [many to most do not]. The Elimination, invalidation, declaration, legal decisions, ruling of the many illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional legislation need to be challenged and sued in the Supreme Court, thus decided as Unconstitutional, null and void.
Then, perhaps the individual Rights and Freedoms will return to the People, and the Federal, State, County, City, Local Governments, Legislation, Legislators, including every Enforcement Agency and official in the USA, will be forced to act, behave, follow, abide according to the US Constitution.
      Sincerely

Most modern vehicles going back to the early 90s already have electronics in the engine anyways.
If there was ever an EMP, all cars ev and gas would be rendered useless instantly. You'd have to go back to the 60s and later to find any cars that don't have any electronics in them other than maybe the radio.
