This is when I first became aware of the Who, via MTV, so I my affection for this era is the closest thing I allow myself for nostalgia. 1982 Farewell Tour. Personally, I was glad they came back as often as they did so I'd get a chance to see them!
""They skiped the last verse"".....the place is really jumpin to the high watt amps...when a 20" cymbal fell and cut the lamps..in the blackout they danced right in to the isle..let the doors fly open..even the promoter smiles...someone takes there pants off and the rafters knock......rock is dead ,they say.
Wow...how unmotivated is Pete in this? It's funny...I saw them on this tour at the Capital Centre (Sept. 23, 1982). It was the second concert of that tour and I remember it being incredible and very energetic. Of course, I was only 16 at the time and any big concert, I'm sure, was great. You don't pick up on these things (his unmotivation) at the time of the concert when you're young. You just loved being there! But looking at the footage of this concert now, he seemed totally over it.
Well, your sorta right. It was his new wave phase but the reason he was in this phase is not too cool. He was still struggling with the death of Keith Moon, he was into hard drugs including heroin, he was having a hard time with losing his hair (trying some painful procedures to stop it from happening), he felt like an old man in a young man's game and he felt pressured to carry on with the Who even though he wanted nothing to do with it anymore. IOW, he was sad, depressed and on heavy drugs.
I agree, HeyRadialMoon. Punk celebrated dirty instead of clean, ugly instead of beautiful, inneptitude instead of accomplishment. They complained about Steely Dan and Yes while they walked around wearing garbage bags and slept under bridges.

It's just too clean ! i lovee The Who now and before when it was just extreme ! Not the kenney jones era ! RIP KEITH AND JOHN !
Between those cut-off t-shirts and Kenny Jones' straight playing, it doesn't feel like The Who
