What a contribution Dr. Pat Carnes has made/is making in education for our culture! In my speech language therapist/pathologist/SLP work, I encounter so many children and wonder what is happening to their brains when their foundations/developing brains have so little of the enrichment my peers and I got growing up, e.g., the arts, the humanities, face to face time with other humans, etc. It is often the most creative individuals who, when lacking something they are passionate about to pursue in their lives, become enmeshed in the addictive process, something that the intensity of copious internet time, exacerbates. It it changing the human brain. Sometimes, in therapy sessions, I purposely leave my cell phone on & arrange for it to ring during the session. When it does, the students say "Miss, your phone is ringing!!" I respond with "You're more important than my cell phone or internet messages. I look at/listen to the msg. later." Then most of the students, get a surprised look that suggests they're not used to adults valuing them in a way that they would choose to be present with them over a cell phone/internet message.
It's sad to hear how bad the problem of internet porn has become, but I do believe you're right. I know personally, that when the internet became so developed in the mid 90's, my life to this addiction became so out of control. The kids that have come up with the internet are exposed to so much porn filth, it's disgusting. People are finally starting to become more aware of this huge problem. Thank you for your work Dr Carnes.
I wouldn't exactly put it that way, but I am in recovery from lust, porn and sex addiction. It has been a horrible problem, but thanks to my Higher Power, SA and other people in recovery, I am finding Freedom One day at a Time! How about you?
