Right! It makes me wonder if he's going to tackle Asian stories in the modern world next. They are so tight lipped about their true anguishes and hiding deep wounds it's killing their societies.
I kind of agree. The character is complex enough to feel under explored since the film focuses mostly on OJ and Em. Bare with me a moment...the character was a child star + monkey + his own theme park. He turns his childhood trauma into a career but winds up dying and destroying some families who came to his theme park. Does that remind you of anyone in real life? I think naming one character "OJ" in a film that wants to talk about exploitation is an obvious reference to OJ Simpson. The character "OJ" has nothing in common with OJ Simpson. Jupe on the other hand has many elements of another major figure of the 1990s. One who was alleged a victim before he became a victimizer. I also think that audiences are so conscious of race that they will never see that connection. I'm not entirely sure that Peele is conscious of it. There are rules in Hollywood, one of which is you don't make movies about certain things like the specific ways animals, children and women get exploited by some people. Peele does a great job of evoking these things but like the clouds in this film, you can see it or not see it. The character of Jupe is the most curious because we get just enough of him to make us wonder about the rest. People have compared the character to the real life actor who was in the Indian Jones series, Ke Huy Quan. I think that comparison comes from focusing on the race of the actors/character. If you ignore race you get a different answer; one that seems a much closer fit.
I just saw NOPE on a giant IMAX screen and I felt nothing but childlike wonder and astonishment at this accomplishment of a film. I was entirely captivated by the UFO, the hidden meanings in things, the many layers of the film that you sort of talk about and discuss long after the credits roll. I am entirely entranced by how fantastic this world is that Peele created and I can't wait to buy this on 4K DVD so I can re-watch it over and over, it is that good. I've yet to see the film but one of the few criticisms I seem to hear / read about is that the film may have too many layers? And that, if the film focused on just a few of these layers, it would be better. As you have seen the film, is the above comment a fair one?
@@McD5791 nah, I think people were just expecting a traditional horror movie and weren’t happy with how it turned out. it has nothing to do with the amount of layers it had, people just wanted to get scared and were disappointed by the third act. but this kinda goes in line with Jordan’s initial words in this video about having an inviting space for people who don’t like to watch scary movies. The last line about us all having a fear of being near a UFO or extraterrestrial from an early age resonated with me. I just don't think everyone had that fear as a kid. When I was explaining to friends that aliens fucked me up as a kid, they were surprised. My first thought when I saw the movie was, this guy understands my primal fear of aliens. Seriously a fear that I've felt since I first heard of aliens. Peele effect is definitely real
You’re damn right! Jordan Peele brought back that childhood fear of aliens to me while I was watching, my chest got heavy, I was anxious, I was lowkey having a panic attack.. I haven’t felt that since watching Signs when I was a kid!

I just saw NOPE like 2 hours ago and I loved it. I think I’ll love anything Jordan puts out because I know it’ll just make my brain do gymnastics. He’s definitely redefining horror in a way that doesn’t really make me walk away terrified, but he makes me think. All these deeper meanings and hidden message’s. That’s what I like. I love that he let Keke just be herself on camera. I heard him say in a previous interview that someone like Emerald Haywood was missing on the big screen and that couldn’t be more true. Keke and Emerald are one in the same and I don’t know, I feel like other directors would kind of mask Keke’s personality but Jordan embraced it. I’ll never look at clouds the same. ☁️

Somehow, despite having seen Jordan's other movies, I did not expect it to get as horrific at times as it did here! Just saw this movie, the mind of Mr Peele is crazy. How good and different was Nope. Some humorous parts, some disturbing parts and some parts that had you questioning the world we live in. Good work team 👏
Peele’s films introduced me to thriller semi horror films that I really enjoy now. I’ve always steered away from the horror genre but I’ve always been interested in films that somewhat bothers the mind. Just watched nope and it’s the perfect mix of different genres.
I saw this movie with my boyfriend and at first we were bummed that we got seats close to the screen (meaning we had to look up). But i think it actually elevated and immersed us more, since we had to crane our necks upwards it felt like we were looking up into the sky like the characters
I’ve seen nope like 3 different times and every single one of those times it felt like I was watching it all over again, seeing the alien and how it did stoke awe but fear is what I really like about it,I’m such a horror fanatic and grown immune to them but this, this was the first one where it had me hold my breath but couldn’t look away because how scared it made me feel
Saw it yesterday. 9.5 out of 10. Only drop for the score would be the final part of the ending. The plan and the filming of the whole movie is phenomenal, but the solution at the end felt a little ok. But, I didnt make the movie, and it worked. Overall, amazing movie. Jordan Peele is an amazing director, and all the actors in this and his other movies are great
I remember hiking in Cape Town and a baboon approached my buddy and me. We were scared but my instincts said: "Nope" and we walked away slowly as if he were invisible. Exactly as this black horror movie

@@TwistedReality13 nope, it means nope
@@bigd4wg510 yea I noticed it was just a theory surrounding the word after that post.
I’m so excited to see this film. This is the first independent film that’s not part of any franchise that got me interested in it. This will also probably be my first rated R movie I’ll see as an 18 year old. I hope this movie succeeds
Have you seen Jordan's other movies? If you like NOPE you'll love Get Out and Us! It's always great to branch out when watching movies, hope you find a lot you enjoy!
I just saw this and it was fantastic, everything about it was suspenseful and also had exploitative meaning behind it.
It was filmed amazingly, music, scenery, acting, beautiful brown people!
Thank you Jordan Peele for bringing back that childhood fear I had of aliens! I fucking loved the movie, it freaked me out! 100/10
Hey RUclips I'll go ahead and save you a survey... I will definitely be going to see this in theaters
There HAS to be a director's cut coming.... I beg
Can’t wait to see this…l.looks so intelligent and thoughtful….that’s why I’m excited
Thank you for this movie, it will live long in my memory. Really enjoyed it. A favourite of 2022
This guys brilliant. We’ll be studying his movies for years.
Can't wait to see this in the theater with my peoples! I just hope nobody pops up with any weapons to ruin it
It's sad that that's a reasonable fear to have. I hope you have fun, Trisha
I always feel like this now since the dark knight especially with a movie like nope u know
Already got my tickets 🎟 excited to see this one!
I kind of can't stop thinking about this movie, there are some scenes that I wish I could rewatch several times so I can properly process them bc I couldn't handle watching them in the theater lmao
I can’t stop thinking of certain scenes cause they disturbed me so much 😮
I guess it would be the scene when the crowd was going through the alien digestive tract?
The scenes where you hear weird noises in the background as the "ship" flys nearby stuck with me since now we know what those noises are
I watched this video because for some reason I am drawn to this film even though the last horror movie I saw was the original Scream in theaters!!! Then here is Jordan Peele saying that’s exactly what he wants 🤯
cant believe that daniel k can sound so different so flawlessly
ive seen get out and nope and i didnt know he had such a strong accent until a few days ago when i was looking up some info about nope
You’ve done it again Jordan
i’m super desensitised to horror and stuff but oh my god this movie SCAREDDD me. especially the scenes with Gordy. really caught me off guard. amazingggg film.
This is Bad ass
I've heard so many BS disses on this movie and in my eye they are so wrong, I am a huge fan of Alien flim and Science fiction, I was blown away. Great flim. Well done Jordan Peele👍🏽
Great movie definitely picked and poked at all of "my certain type of things".
I like how jean jacket isnt a metaphor, but isnt bland
Y'all are so lucky to get movies so soon. I'll have to wait over a month before I can see this too. South Korea is even getting it before the U.S., apparently, so I don't know why Japan takes forever. I guess I should just be glad we're getting it at all. I don't think we would be if Get Out and Us didn't hit. But I'm really looking forward to seeing it!
same...in Japan too..it's annoying trying to avoid spoilers when u gotta wait a whole month
Dude is an absolute GENIUS
thank you so much for this movie. it was jawdroppingly good!!
Keke Palmer is outrageously good in this film I think she deserves an Oscar nod
I saw this movie with my boyfriend and at first we were bummed that we got seats close to the screen (meaning we had to look up). But i think it actually elevated and immersed us more, since we had to crane our necks upwards it felt like we were looking up into the sky like the characters
I absolutely can't wait for this movie! Get out and US part two of my favorite movies in the last decade
Best movie of the year no cap !! Definitely would pay to watch again 🔥🛸
I had doubts that it was going to live up to my excitement from the trailer, but it met and exceeded those expectations.
just saw it in theaters. easily one of the best films i've seen in awhile.
🤨 Really?
@@cvcvcvcvcv yup, what i said hasn't changed.

@@FerociousPaul I already know I’m going watch it soon
6:34 the way they reacted to her was real af, who knows how many times they've seen someone faint on set lol
Jordan Peele is an amazing director, and all the actors in this and his other movies are great
some predators snap and other’s explode at the popping of a balloon
@@hexbaby I guess I missed that, thanks for pointing out. I guess its a parallel to Gordy's freakout
I remember hiking in Cape Town and a baboon approached my buddy and me. We were scared but my instincts said: "Nope" and we walked away slowly as if he were invisible. Exactly as this black horror movie
I do enjoy this man's work. AND ANOTHER ONE ... NOPE. JP, you do see "Us" Awesome cast!!!
He needs to release a directors cut I heard the og runtime of this film was like 3 and a half hours
What Mr Peele said in the beginning is true for me ...with not wanting to see a typical horror movie that just hits us with jump scares and loud eerie sounds/music... I like one that keeps you interested ...like Peele's films have...
Man I’m not a fan of horror movies, but have watched all of his movies these last yrs. I’m a huge fan and I trust his work. Great movie
im going to go see it this weekend cannot wait
I love how our black sister Keke Palmer explaining this movie she's a very bright woman
I love Keke. Movie was amazing. Great cast.
Jupe character really sticks with me after the credit. Something about his story arc just really fucks you up. Em and OJ arc is just a battle between alien and human. Jupe is soul of the story.
Got a little sneak peek of the actual team dressing as the aliens at 1:31 because there’s a lady with the gloves (hands) of the aliens 😲 totally can’t wait for this movie
yea you got a eye i didn't see that.
@@platiniathens8066 yes I know that I read a lil spoilers about the monkey and he wants them in the shows and those aren’t the real aliens I know all of that
Yup caught that too. Frankenstein looking hands. I love that not much is known about this movie!
@@platiniathens8066 someone’s cranky
I was just talking about aliens he got all big and serious about the whole plot
I don't know what I expected from that movie but it definitely didn't even come close to how awesome it really was
